| ![]() So ever since Callie was sick Ollie started peeing in the house and when Joey would smell his pee then he would go on the same spot. Ollie knows he shouldn’t do it because when he sees that I see it he put his head down. If I catch him I tell him a very firm no and he will come beg for forgiveness and want to be picked up but I don’t want him to feel praised so I try to ignore him for several minutes. I tell him how good he is when he goes outside too like fully potty party but it’s not changing. He NEVER poos in the house. Keeping him in a pen isn’t a option because he can climbed out and that would keep him from his siblings which does not seem fair and I don’t want him to hurt himself. A belly band isn’t an option because they have a doggy door and he does go out to pee on his own a few times a day they also don’t fix the problem. I just don’t know what to do. I tried putting a pee pad where he kept going but it didn’t work. I take him potty after naps and first thing before bed and in the morning. How often do I need to take an adult dog out to pee? My office carpet also smells sooooooo bad. I have tried many types of cleaners in the shampooer and NOTHING works it just makes it smell stronger and more like pee. I can’t use anything with huge smells due to my grandmothers breathing issues and my own asthma. Any suggestions on what I can do with the carpet?

| ![]() Here’s a list of (reportedly) the best carpet cleaners for pet urine. https://www.mypetneedsthat.com/best-carpet-cleaner/ I don’t know what to recommend to stop the behavior, though. Does he always go in the same spot? If so, maybe you could put something (like a small table) over the spot temporarily so he can’t go there. It’s also possible he will stop as soon as you get rid of the smell. The smell probably makes him think it’s an acceptable area to use. |

| ![]() Do you ever have a professional cleaner come out? Even though I clean periodically on my own, have a spot bot, I feel it's nothing like a professional deep clean with protectant and deodorizer. That may help with the carpet smell issue. As for the accidents going in the same spot, I'm sorry I don't have a solution as it seems like you're trying everything.

| ![]() Professional cleaners such as Stanly Steamer uses a special chemical for pet urine, however, if you have already shampooed the carpet that urine is set in the carpets fibers. I will say this, once a dog has peed numerous times in one spot, that spot has been soaked with urine, meaning, carpet, padding and sub-flooring has soaked up the urine, nothing will get that smell out. Worse case scenario, the carpet and padding will have to be removed, the floor will have to be painted with either Kilz which is a order eliminator, possibly needing up to 3 coats before urine smell is gone. Two coats of Polyurethane on wood floors also works well. New carpeting will be needed. When Matese became 16 years old she lost badder control, because I walk bare foot and my entire house is carpeted except kitchen and bathrooms I stepped in a wet spot, that's how I discovered she now had badder issues. Nature's Miracle was suggested to erase any smell, that didn't work, what worked for me was Zero-Oder that I purchased on line. First you have to suck up the urine with a shampooer, spray the area with cold plain water, suck that up, let it dry then spray saturating that area with Zero-Oder. Since Ollie is peeing or marking wherever he pleases you have a real issue on your hands because you cannot confine him and have Penny and Joey roam free. The best you can do is confine all dogs to one room preferably a non carpeted room, no free roam until Ollie stops using the house as his own personal urinal, and Joey will pee on top of Ollies, I had that with my last two females but they made outdoors.

| ![]() Laminate vs carpet is a wise choice, when you do get around to doing it I suggest painting the entire floor with a couple of coats of Polyurethane. The sub-flooring is like a dry sponge, it soaked up that urine, Polyurethane will seal the flooring and eliminate all odors. But if Ollie continues to pee / mark, you'll be faced with the same issue, and Joey peeing on top of Ollies, that's a double whammie. Having your dad and uncle install the flooring will save you a bunch of money, I also know that life has a way of throwing a monkey wrench into plans. For the time being, try using Carpet Fresh pet Odor Eliminator, I have attached a picture of it. Buy 4 or 5 cans, spay carpet until almost saturated, put a couple of fans in the room and close the door to help it dry fast, you don't want the pups walking on it while its wet, but it is safe to use around pets. You may have to do this a couple of times to mask the odor, hopefully this will help until you can remove the carpet. Every time I vacuum I lightly spray my carpeting, it's a foam that dissipates quickly.

Senior Yorkie Talker | ![]() Currently in the same boat with “retraining” my 2 adult pups to FULLY use the bathroom outside, versus being dependent on pee pads. Let me tell you though the BEST urine eliminator spray that I’ve found is “Rocco and Roxie Stain and Odor Eliminator.” It has completely eliminated any urine smell from any little messes in my carpet. You can get it at PetSmart or Amazon. It is a little on the pricier side, around $20, but trust me it’s worth a try. Especially while you’re saving up to replace the flooring. Check out the reviews. I hope this helps. |

| ![]() Yeah, sounds like he was venting his frustrations over your not producing Callie even after days of missing her, not understanding why, but now, consider him an unhousebroken dog who habitually pees where he chooses. You'll have to treat him as a new, unhousebroken dog to your home and crate-train/confine him all over again, using short, happy crate confinements(which you gradually lengthen as he relearns to hold his urine until outside) you treat as party time when entering the crate with a lot of laughing, fun attitude, treats tossed into and hidden about the crate, a strict schedule he can come to rely on and confinement whenever you cannot watch him like a hawk, just the same way you housebreak any rescue, foster or new, older, unhousebroken dog to your home. At first, he'll be confused, rattled, very unhappy and disgruntled by it all but a smart dog with a good dog handler whom he trusts will soon accept the new situation as his lot in life and go along, eventually happily if you treat it all as a fun new game.
