YT 1000 Club Member | I am glad you cancelled. You will feel so much better being able to take her home. I would want my baby home with me. Our vet only keeps them if they are not doing as well as expected. I have never had one have to stay. I usually get a phone call that the surgery is over and they did well and that they will call me again later in the afternoon to tell me what time to come get them. Then they call me later and tell me to pick them up around such and such time. It has been great for me. I plan to get my boy puppy fixed around 5 1/2-6 months. Then get my daughter's girl puppy fixed around 8 months. I want her to have a little more time to finish growing and developing. I am hoping if I plan for 8 months it will be before she goes into heat. I have had several female dogs fixed at 6 months old and wished I hadn't. Maybe it was coincidence that they doubled in size after being spayed, but I want my daughter's puppy to be mostly grown before we do this. Good luck and I am sure you will feel better having them home with you to recover.

| Thanks everyone.....now if I can only find someone to trim toenails right. They either get them too short and hurt them or just cut the tips and are always too long! Sheesh!

I was told today to wait 6 weeks on zoey she trimmed them pretty good . The both yipped once but I got them home and looked ....they weren't bleeding... I've seen the grinders but they won't even let me smooth them with a file!

| After she was done she told me she tends to try and cut close so I don't have to get them cut as often😱

| I think you made the right decision. I think doing the spay early in the day, having pup there for a few hours, and then home at night makes sense. She will probably just be asleep when you get her, but why should she be frightened and without you when she needs you most? |

| I believe you made the right choice. I have to have my dogs at the vet's between 8 - 9 in the morning, they do the surgery between 10 - 11 and call me afterwards to let me know how it goes. The office calls me usually between 1 - 2:30 to let me know my puppy is awake and how he/she is feeling and I usually pick them up around 5. I think it is ridiculous to have to let your puppy somewhere overnight after being spayed/neutered if there are no complications, especially if no one is going to be there 24/7 to watch them and take care of them. They usually sleep the first 12 - 18 hours afterwards anyway. Good luck with your old/new vet. I hope all goes well with your baby.

| I love my vet; she is understanding, knows her stuff and "gets" me. I took Piper in for spaying first thing in the morning and picked her up at 2pm that same day. I noticed shortly after coming home that she was very restless and kept stretching her little neck. I called Dr Patti and she immediately said that Piper was in pain and to give her pain medication right away (as opposed to directions on bottle). Dr Patti also told me to call for any reason if I had additional questions or concerns. Piper fell asleep shortly after receiving medication (sooner than prescribed) and made a beautiful, full recovery (her little belly is seamless!!). Dr Patti has been my vet for 20 yrs...through a German Shepherd, two felines and now my Piper. She has always, always been there for me (and them) as she is with all of her patients. Find a veterinarian who really listens---and takes the time to understand both you and your "baby." I trust my vet with Piper's life---that is everything!!! |

| When I spayed my girl the vet made me leave her overnight. I thought it was a bit odd but they also had someone on hand I case anything went wrong. It's one thing if they are their over night with someone monitoring them, but I don't get why they would want them overnight without supervision. I think you made the right choice. Even when you do find a vet you really like hold on to them. I moved 4 years ago and while I found a new vet I miss my old one, they were one in a million. I'm sure your girl will be in good hands and will heal up quickly.

| I'm happy to see you cancelled. I don't understand the vet not releasing the dog the same day to go home. I thought that was standard practice for a routine spay. ZoE has a great vet. I truly feel lucky she has him. I had an okay vet with my last yorkie, but he was more about the $$ than the dog. ZoE's vet is all sbout her best interest and he loves educating and sharing knowledge with his clients, which i really like. He is not available 24/7 though (although you can text him and he's always responded for us), and he's the only vet in his practice so when he's gone you get referred elsewhere in an emergency. We do have an ER hospital we use if need be thats just fifteen minutes from my house. We don't have any cets close to me that are available 24/7. They all refer you yo the ER after hours if it can't wait until the next day.
