Struggling here.... Monday is upon us already and its Izzys spay day. Called the vet again on Friday insisting I want to take her home at end of day and they will not let me. I don't want her to go into heat . She was 6 months on the 12 th.. If I change my mind I have nowhere to turn. They said they go home late and someone comes in middle of night to check up but I can't believe they think that's good enough. Does anyone know .....what they give them during night so they won't thrash and panic? Izzy is soooo flighty and such a scary cat ....I have so been on it socializing her but it hasn't helped much...it's really hard for her to come to me when I ask .and just runs if she wants to...can't see her being separated from me. Don't know what to do...do they sleep ?😱 There are so many things that could happen unless they sedate them...is there a protocol? I can see myself driving for 30 minutes to get there then saying forget it but then what.....she is 3 1/2 lbs ....don't know when they tend to go into heat if I have time to look around.... |
Mine go into heat around 9 1/2 months... Normally. Not saying it won't happen but in almost all of mine it's after 6 months. We also use the extra time for the adult teeth to come in since they usually retain baby teeth. Around 8-9 months, is when we spay/neuter and get puppy teeth pulled at the same time. |
There is only one vet in your town? |

Does the size matter? |
Not usually, but mine are bigger because I breed. |

I haven't had a dog before Zoey for 15 years cause of my experience with poor vets.....the last who put her down, did me in....now I have to start all over. And not doing very good ..... Maybe I expect too much to think I am entitled to information and compromise when it comes to my own pet...I just don't get it....especially since I brought Zoey home same day from spay from my previous vet.....those that have followed my journey with that know I felt the need to leave a good vet cause she wasn't available for emergency after hour calls. That is not acceptable I'm afraid.especially when I had a near death with Zoey... Now my great new vet who saved her life has such a strict no compromise policy on her practices it leaves me feeling like running again! |
The ones that I spay are small.....and they all came in around 8 months....seems the smaller they are, the later they come into season....now that is not written in stone anyplace, but just from experience, speaking..... |

I was talking to a breeder in Michigan . Do you think I was out of line to ask her who her vet is? I never heard back from her so I took it she was more interested in selling her pups than helping someone find a vet who has dealt with yorkies. I took the no reply as rude...😕 Thanks for your reply , I appreciate it....maybe now if my red flags kick in tomorrow I can say.....forget it....her health comes first and I don't want to jeopardize that..the tough times we just have to get thru. ....it doesn't help when you have family that Looooves this vet! |

Ya know I was really surprised when I called this vet for zoeys emergency that they took her not being a patient of theirs. They are not known to be Er vets they just have 24 hour on call , drop everything , I will be there service . And I like that but Ya know they have several vets and I have seen mine only once , and I don't like that....they gave 2 booster overload at the same time , and I didn't like that...she wouldn't even look at my probiotic and digestive enzymes when I asked if they were ok she said " I don't believe in giving them additives , their dog food should already have that"...😕.....mmmmm.....ohhh k They don't trim nails very well, even missed two thus last time.....😱 I really think I'm losing my mind , or I just get around much! Meaning I seriously thinking of going back😨 |
I just DONT get around much,I mean. |
It's hard to be accepted by this group too....full... I was turned down the first time....ohmy |

She did say something about going somewhere else in emergency , then I guess I just didn't understand why she didn't give me that number ....don't like being left in lurch....talked myself into changing vets. Maybe for the sake of my fur child I'll need to go back and swallow my pride get off my high horse , or beg....😱 rather than leave my baby whom I know best, overnight even "for their own good" when I know she is too flighty and scared to DO her any good. She is a hearty eater and drinker and very feisty to boot , I don't foresee any problems with dehydration etc. and I laid in bed with Zoey for 2 days and can contain , maintain , and moniter better than no one all night plus one who stops by once....do I hear an amen? |
