| ![]() I did not like having to leave Uni overnight for her spay either. But I already knew the vets at this hospital and I liked them. I didn't want to take a chance with another hospital that we never went to. So I did it. I asked them several times if I could come get her the same day. Nope. She's not crate trained and I can't imagine how she felt staying in a cage all night. I was there first thing in the morning to pick her up. I would also agree with Deb in spaying around 8 months so any baby teeth that don't come out on their own can be taken out during spay. I had a foster that was neutered at 4 months bc that particular vet liked to do it early. He ended up with double rows of teeth and really bad breath bc he didn't lose hardly any baby teeth. If he had waited, they could have taken out the baby teeth.

| ![]() Yeh , that's another thing....they said they were going to pull baby teeth too. she is still losing them. One came out today! Izzy still sleeps in Her play pen . She was curious about sleeping in my bed with Zoey and I , so we tried it , then on the floor beside me inher bed but she felt the need to jump out and run after poor Zoey when she gets upin the middle of the night to go and chase after her.....so that didn't work.back in playpen....she sleeps better and is willing so we'll try again when she gets older. I have to remember this last vet I really liked but they forgot to micro chip her when she got spayed and we had to put her under again to have her baby teeth pulled! Zoey was spayed at 5 months. .... I won't be able to pick Izzy till Tueday AFTERNOON! I don't think I can do this.

| ![]() Yeah I would be to. The vet will know which teeth are baby teeth and can pull them.

| ![]() Hi, I'm not sure I have anything of value to add, except that I just had my 5 month old spayed for medical reasons. I would have preferred waiting, but my puppy wasn't able to. She had an extra long procedure, but even though they are a 24/7 animal hospital, they did allow me to bring her home after spending the day at the vet while she was sedated. She was very sleepy and I did have her in her playpen that first night, and I slept on the couch beside her, lol. Did the vet give any reason why they won't allow you to bring her home, since you will be able to watch her the whole night and they won't? Seems to me that in this case you are a better nurse then no one there at all. |

| ![]() I have just been reading this thread, I am so glad to know the vet can tell which are baby teeth because Zoey is being spayed April 27 and I am sooooo worried about everything. First about them spaying her because she only weights 2 lbs and 3 ounces also because she has so many baby teeth left. She is 6 1/2 months old. Plus, they will not keep her over night and I'm not sure what I will do if she has a hard time the first night.....I am really bad with anything medical. I tend to panic when my little ones don't feel well. Anyway, thanks for all the info. PS...... I mean leave her overnight with someone on duty "all night", not a quick check in. |

| ![]() Cancellation accomplished.....have an appointment for spay with vet who did zoey a year and a half ago.... When I asked if her policy has changed since then on taking them home same day....she said " no, providing she is having no complications I can take her home in the afternoon when she sees she is waking and responding" . Now THAT is what I want to hear......not absolutely not they have to stay till the afternoon the NEXT day! Not even being able to talk to the vet and THAT was 3 phone calls later.. I can keep her quiet , confined , comfortabe in her onesie( not a plastic scarey e collar) and feeling totally non stressed in her own environment to heal with her loving mama near...I'm retired and can spend every minute with her to make sure so....😉 .

My zoey was up and at it before I wanted her to...try to keep them quiet.. Ask questions...should do blood tests first to see if they are compatible with the anesthesia...my zoey was a tiny too....izzy is as big as Zoey is now so she is not tiny for her age... Always have er number handy and know if your vet does after hours or not. But do ask questions ... and have boiled chicken and rice on hand for first day or two....canned pumkin wouldn't hurt either. Sometimes they are nauseated that first day....easy on the tummy.... I laid in bed with Zoey for two days probably will this one too...they just love being as close to you as they can....remember when you were a child how good it felt to snuggle in someone's arms?☺️

| ![]() I think that is crazy! At our vet office you drop them off at 8 am and then you can pick them up between 3 and 5!!!! I think I would cry and be more upset than Cooper if he had to stay over night (he is a bit independent). It is your baby so you do what is best for her!!!!

| ![]() Never seen a vet (around here at least) that kept the pups after spay/neuter overnight unless there was some complication or the facility had 24 hr staff to look in on them like every hour. For M/Z, my vet kept them for few hours to make sure they woke up and responded properly. Then she called to let me know how they were doing and said I can pick them up in about an hour. (Wanted to keep them an extra hour just to make sure everythings okay) |
