Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | ![]() I have insurance but I'm planning on changing to Embrace after Bonnie is spayed. I may keep the insurance I have as well since it covers 100% on office visits. With the two together my cost would be about $55 per month but I would have little out of pocket expenses in the case of a severe medical issue. Although with Embrace you have to pay up front and then get reimbursed. |

| ![]() I think that whether or not one gets insurance is a personal choice depending on our experiences and one's ability to come up with big $$$ if an unexpected vet bill came up. I gather from reading YT and from other sources that certain illnesses and weaknesses happen to Yorkies mainly due to genetics. Well bred dogs are less likely to suffer from these occurrences, but they do happen. Rescues however are more likely to have issues as their heritage is usually unknown. That is why I decided to get insurance. As for insurance costs, they depend on many variable as I suggested before. Anyone interested in buying insurance needs to do a lot of research and carefully compare apples with apples. I came up with Trupanion as it provided the services I wanted. I paid more than average as I wanted zero deductible, but probably a good average for a young well dog would cost around $40 with a few hundred deductible in my area. ( for Trupanion anyway) I don't know what costs are today as I purchased my insurance five years ago. |

| ![]() I guess here is my thought. If you don't want it that's fine. I was suggesting to at least look into it because it's easier to come up with $30 a month than $5000. No one HAS to take it. But the thought of having to put one of my babies to sleep due to vet cost is heart breaking. I have read numerous threads where this is considered. Or having to turn them over to a rescue so they can get the care they need. I think owners need to know its out there. Research it then make your choice. I pay a whole lot more for my health insurance, my car insurance, and my house insurance. Hoping I never have to use them; however, I still have them. Why? Well I can't cover the expense without insurance if I NEED it. They give me peace of mind by having the coverage. I can't live in the it won't happen to me world. It did happen to me when seven years ago my home was broke into and they stole everything I had worked my whole life for. At least my insurance helped replace some of the items. So, in my opinion, dog insurance is basically for the same reason. Peace of mind and there if I need it. To me that's worth the monthly premium I pay. Just my opinion. To you that enough money to cover a $5000-$10000 surgery I am happy for you. Sadly my family would hurt financially if I had to give that money upfront. Therefor we will continue having insurance coverage on every dog we own. Lily came from a great breeder yet I still have her covered. I just am not willing to take a chance.

| ![]() My problem with the insurances I've read. They say they give you $10k -20K But they break it down to $2k for this $1k for that $3k for this. So every time I did the # it wasn't a savings. Just like your car insurance your health insurance. We pay for it but when its time to collect they don't cover it or its suppose to be cover by something else. Seem alot of ppl like it. If the ones who did use it came forth and had good thing to say... |

| ![]() But my wife has a Moki fund. She saves $30 a month since we had him. And I was talking to her today. She going to make one for Winnie also. Guess she doesn't want to miss her Vacation. |

| ![]() Sophie Kate has an insurance plan with Major Medical and Wellness through VPI. We have had it for the last 5 years and most years we break even but in 2014 we really benefited since she had to have her Dentals and she had 3 Sebaceous Cysts removed. bill came to $864 and I was reimbursed approximately $700. Yearly the cost for her coverage is approximately $500 but it covers all wellness exams, shots, heartworm and flea preventative. It works as a supplemental insurance meaning it pays back a set amount (kind of like human dental insurance). I cannot imagine being without it for any of my pets, I also had a plan for my late cat and it paid for a lot of his test and treatment for his Kidney Cancer.
