Well bred dogs are less likely to suffer from these occurrences, but they do happen. Rescues however are more likely to have issues as their heritage is usually unknown. That is why I decided to get insurance. As for insurance costs, they depend on many variable as I suggested before. Anyone interested in buying insurance needs to do a lot of research and carefully compare apples with apples. I came up with Trupanion as it provided the services I wanted. I paid more than average as I wanted zero deductible, but probably a good average for a young well dog would cost around $40 with a few hundred deductible in my area. ( for Trupanion anyway) I don't know what costs are today as I purchased my insurance five years ago.
$40 for one dog a month? Yeah I agree if you have a resque it maybe worth it.
