I think that whether or not one gets insurance is a personal choice depending on our experiences and one's ability to come up with big $$$ if an unexpected vet bill came up. I gather from reading YT and from other sources that certain illnesses and weaknesses happen to Yorkies mainly due to genetics. Well bred dogs are less likely to suffer from these occurrences, but they do happen. Rescues however are more likely to have issues as their heritage is usually unknown. That is why I decided to get insurance. As for insurance costs, they depend on many variable as I suggested before. Anyone interested in buying insurance needs to do a lot of research and carefully compare apples with apples. I came up with Trupanion as it provided the services I wanted. I paid more than average as I wanted zero deductible, but probably a good average for a young well dog would cost around $40 with a few hundred deductible in my area. ( for Trupanion anyway) I don't know what costs are today as I purchased my insurance five years ago. |
