| Wow Mike. I can't believe they still have done nothing on this! This is unreal! You have given them plenty of time. I think it's time to go to the supervisor. Is animal control a city or state program?

| I also have been following this thread. I'm wondering if it would do any good if you gave us the info on your animal control location, name, etc and all of us out here with yorkies let them know that we are watching to see what will be done. This does not concern you alone. Like was previously said it could be a child, an elderly person, or a service dog. |

| Mike, of. Ourse we all continue to be outraged with how this incident is being managed, but I was wondering of you could give an up date on how Lucy is healing. No complications or limitations I hope. She is such a sweet dog

Banning Thread Dictator Donating Member | Thanks for your concern. I don't want to make too much of a fuss as long as animal control is moving forward. For all I know, she's waiting for me to return to have the formal hearing. I'll let you know. Lucy is doing great. She's slower and there's a limp, but her spirits are terrific. I'm so grateful that I have the perfect dog sitter for this 10-day vacation. Robyn is the one who rescued Lucy originally, and she loves her as much as I do. She's one tough pooch. She also has a mast cell lymphoma that's inoperable because of its size and location and her age.

Banning Thread Dictator Donating Member | Well, I tried as hard as I could to be patient, but I finally lost it today when talking to the officer investigating Lucy's case. I asked to speak to her supervisor and went off on him. To make a long story a little shorter, I was fairly incensed when I returned from my 10-day vacation and had received no email updates from the officer as I'd requested. Not even any confirmation that she received the witness statement that I'd personally delivered to her office. I called on Monday and left a message for the officer to call me with an update 7 weeks after the attack. No reply. I called on Tuesday at noon and was given her personal voicemail, and I again requested at update. Again, no reply by the time I was going to head to work. I called again a couple hours after my first call Tuesday and was given the officer. She asked what I wanted. I told her I'd been leaving messages for two days that I wanted a status update. She started by telling me that the witness, while corroborating my story in a written statement, said he would not attend a formal hearing at animal control without being paid. I reminded the officer that, not only had I picked up and delivered the witness statement to her office and knew everything it said, we already KNEW THAT! He had told her when she interviewed him 2 weeks earlier that he would not attend a formal hearing. That's why she asked for the written statement. She said nevertheless, it hurt my case that he wouldn't testify in person. (I didn't even get into whether he could be subpoenaed to testify.) I then asked if she had seen the video I'd made for her, my personal slam dunk on the case, refuting his version of the story that I'd begged her again and again to view or let me know if she couldn't view. She told me she couldn't get the DVD to work on any work computer. Why she hadn't let me know as I'd requested is unfathomable to me. That's pretty much when I lost it and started telling her how disappointed I was. I asked to speak to her supervisor. Shockingly, she then said something to the effect, "Well, if you'd let me talk, I'd tell you that this case is closed. I issued a Level II classification." WHAT?! Why didn't she tell me that when I asked for a status update? That's the only news! Instead, we spent 10 minutes or more arguing about things I already knew. I repeated that I needed to speak to her supervisor, and she finally transferred me to him. I gave him about a 5-minute synopsis on why I was so disappointed, and he asked for my case number so he could check it out. Sure enough, the officer apparently had issued the Level II classification. I have no idea when she issued it. I suspect Monday, the day she received my message and knew I was back in town. I asked what's next, and he said I had to wait until the report crossed his desk and he signed it, so evidently any action just happened. So I should be elated. A Level II classification is what I wanted. But I'm so disappointed at the officer's effort and how long it took that I can't celebrate. This guy and his dog STILL HAVE 15 days to contest the ruling and demand a hearing. Meanwhile, there are no restrictions on the dog. My inclination is to write a letter to animal control -- making sure the person I talked to is the real supervisor -- and include a timeline I've kept on the slow case. I've already written it, but have decided to cool down until tomorrow and decide whether I send it or not. I dunno. Should I send or or be happy that the case is still moving forward?

| good news but what a shame you had to beat it out of her, I would wait and see what happens at the next step and after it is all over try to get a meeting with the head of the department (not the supervisor) so he knows how his employees are handling claims in the department. I would think their main priority would be keeping dangerous animals off the streets of your town and that they would react with more speed and compassion

| Mike, who is charge of your animal control? Where I live, the county sheriff has animal control under his control. I would think about taking it to the next level and going to the department or city council that animal control is under. You have the patience of a saint!!!

| In my town its the Mayor and has a separate department. Here we go to our elected councilman of our area and it rarely goes past them....honestly, seek out those in charge, this system is greatly flawed.

| I agree 100 percent, escalate this matter to whomever. That AC Officer needs to held accountable for her lack of action. She is a public servant and needs to be remind exactly what her purpose is. Things like the enrage me, your poor sweet old dog did nothing wrong and you as a pet owner did what you are expected to do, be responsible for your pet. I am sitting here at my desk calling that AC Officer all kinds of "YT forbidden" names. I LOVE senior dogs and I respect owners who are dedicated to them.

| Mike, you have been so patient through this whole thing. I know others, myself included, who would have gone "postal" by now. I'd go over as many heads as it takes for you to reach a just resolution. Civil servants, nothing civil about these people! What about putting an article in your local newspaper? God bless sweet Lucy!

Banning Thread Dictator Donating Member | Thanks for the commiseration. I feel kinda bad today. Animal control clerk called and said the "final" report was ready, so I drove down and picked it up. It's at least 40 pages and answers a lot of questions I've had. While it doesn't excuse the amount of time this dragged on and doesn't excuse her lack of communication, it does seem to be a pretty thorough report. Worst part is she had to meet with the guy at least twice, and in the end when presented with the Level II classification he got belligerent and refused to sign. He's paid at least $300 in fines (no rabies vaccination and no licensing), and I would assume the Level II classification is going to help me in court. That couldn't have been easy. I'm leaning toward thanking her for that part of it and explaining again why I was so upset.

| I see your frustration Mike, sounds like she did a good job, but perhaps explaining that keeping the person that made the complaint in the loop will make her job easier since you will not need to keep checking in with her looking for answers. I am in sales and when someone sends me a request to quote something, I let them know I got it and am working on it and when I will have it back to them, if I don't they start calling and asking for it, so letting someone know the progress does cut down on all that, but unfortunately not everyone seems to understand that concept, perhaps you can get her to understand that.

Interestingly, after I went off yesterday, she made a note in the report saying she found a way to play the video. But she had issued the Level II classification a week ago, so she was relying more on my word over his in her classification.
