| In defense of the rescue, I spoke to a good hearted foster mom that only thought of the puppy and not " the right things to say". I am sure it is not common for her to get the kind of call I made asking questions Like why would they keep a dog that the owner wanted back, and why would they not take it to the vet immediately. I believe she did not even realize that the dog had been listed on their web site with both her phone numbers. Please give her slack because I put her on the spot while she was in the middle of taking care of a vet problem with her own yorkie. She spoke from the heart not from a legal text book. There are many pups living in un perfect situations, some of them are living with members of Yorkie Talk, and some with member of our extended families, it is hard for those of us behind keyboards to pass an accurate judgement on what is best for any pup. It is so easy for all of us to "think" we know best but unless we are there we really can only guess.

| oh I told her how I knew, that it was posted on yorkie talk and people were talking about it and some were upset and could not understand why they would keep the dog when the owner wanted it back, so natural tendency for a non lawyer kicked in and she defended her position, which I think a lot of people would do. I am sure that is why the Rescue People came on this thread. I know if I ran an organization that just got a lady free vet care, and was returning the puppy to her I would want that person to set the record straight. They may have her over a barrel but then again she did go running along with her daughter to them when she felt she needed help.

| IDK, seems like some kind of extortion and not making her go through all of that seems much kinder to an older person who was clearly overwrought, scared and distraught over her dog and shame for lack of funds. I'd have thought better of them if they hadn't made her do that. I think we can all read between the lines and didn't need her to have to go through that to figure out pretty near what happened. Just that rep of theirs talking to the vet and getting the deal they did for her told me a lot of good about them until they made her do the retraction. That was OT under the circumstances.

It's quite clear the OP was in a tremendous amount of anguish when she came here to YT to get some advice on how to reclaim her beloved pet that she felt she HAD to give up to rescue. I simply cannot imagine the pain the OP was in under the circumstances & quite frankly, I'll be amazed if she returns. This saddens me because now we've probably missed our chance to help someone become the kind of owner we'd all hope she could be.

| I have great respect for someone who loves their pup enough to give him up to allow him to get necessary medical attention they can not provide. In sure this was very painful for the OP, but I'm sure it was done out of love.

| I am praying for this lady. It seems a very sad situation for her. Who knows when one of us could lose a spouse that are older and be in her situation.

Don't people who surrender dogs have any protection against the rescue disclosing information about the previous owner's situation at all?

| Yes I totally agree! And have dealt with many people who fit this description, but LP is not a life threatening condition. That is what confuses me.
