| My male has his AKC papers. The only reason I sent them in was to support the registry. My female isn't registered with any registry and I couldn't care any less Papers don't mean much to me because I plan on keeping my dogs as pets... Not showing or breeding them.

| My dog.. i gave my sister a female yorkie with the understanding she would get her spayed, well after 1 year she wsn't spayed and I told her i was going to take the dog back, she wasn't interested in breeding her or anything like that she just didn't want her to be to sleep , I understood her worries but i had the paper work proving she was mine and when i reminded her of that the dog got spayed right away. |

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | I registered Joey with the AKC because I believe in what they are doing and what they are trying to accomplish, I think not only breeders should support them, but also pet owners. Our money is used for many good things including search and rescue, and kennel inspections. The AKC is the only registry in the USA that does routine unannounced inspections. I would not support a breeder who registered with one of the "paper" registries and I certainly wouldn’t register my dog with them. I believe that they encourage people to illegally breed. People who have no breeding rights can register their offspring with them. Since they will register anything, I don't see how that would stand up as "proof" in any court of law. You don't even have to have a dog to register it with them. Microchip if you want proof!

Donating YT 4000 Club Member | I have never registered a table with them but I take your word for it, but in the case of the Pledgman family, I am not sure but I think their silky Tink came from a store and it was APRI, now this is me guessing, ok, they were able to show that that dog of that description belong to them, and the judge gave them the dog back, I have no reason to doubt their story, so I beleive it. I guess is the same that I can proof I live in my address by showing an unopen letter with my name on it, to motor vehicle. as long as they show proof that a dog of that description was sold to them and registered to by JOE SMOE , with their name and address printed on, is proof of ownership. And the same way we register the chips on the dogs proof they are ours... hugs, Last edited by carmen in nj; 10-26-2012 at 12:20 PM. |

| Both of my girls have AKC papers. When I registered Khloe this year, I also opted to get her pedigree . I often wonder about the AKC papers because I once heard its just means they are registered. I think all of us here will say it doesn't matter. I would not love my girls any less if they didn't have papers. |

Donating YT 4000 Club Member | Well in my humble opinion those papers also proof that your dogs are YOURS in case anything would happen.. that is why I tell my puppy parents is important to register their dogs so they can proof is their dog. I better be safe than sorry in an emergency.. hugs, |

| Why registering is important. # 1 Like a bill of sale, registry papers prove ownership (wow do I hate that word ownership, like Yorkies are a sofa or pair of shoes) # 2 Pparticipation in some AKC events, is only open to registered dogs. # 3 Rregistration fees support many programs # 4 Breeding programs must keep precise records and pedigrees, registries do this

Donating YT 4000 Club Member | LOL, I just realized is like our kids birth certificate...LOL ok, yes, look at the registration papers as the dogs birth certificate where it shows their name and yours to proof that like your skin kids they belong to you.. better than proof of ownership..LOL |
