Yes i did read what she wrote about her breeder, and i also read multiple times over & over again what you told her...everybody does not go by YT members way of thinking on what age to let a puppy go, some breeders think 8wks is just fine why? Because some vets say that they are old enough to go, and they listen to him/her...I personally feel that it is better for one to be a bit older, but that is my opinion...i am old enough that i remember when small puppies were sold at 6 wks.. So i feel what we need to do is to have a good friendship with Roxysmom and to be able to help her with info on what ever she needs to raise this little one to be healthy & happy

![]() ![]() yes plus she's already attached to her baby roxy, how could she turn her back on her now?its too late to find another breeder and puppy, she loves roxy now, i'm sure she's more aware of alot of things she didn't know before choosing roxy and i'm sure next time she gets a yorkie she will know what to look for and wouldnt choose this breeder again, but its too late for that now. Plus this babys best chance is most likley with her now, she's here educating herself on YT, listening to what people have to say, she could have left this forum long ago when she felt overwhelemed by all these replies, i would have, l know how i was attached to meesha when i was choosing her and i'm sure she is already attached to roxy like that.this little baby could end up in the hands of someone unprepared, it could get sick and then end up being shifted around from horrible home to horrible home because the people buying it are unprepared and don't know all this information everyone's been telling her in this thread, but like she said her parents will be paying if any health problems do come up and she's fully aware now that getting her puppy at 8 weeks it might. which hopefully it won't. | |

| ![]() Bad breeder that is your opinion based on her having more than one breed..A lot of members here have more than one breed does that make them bad owners?

| ![]() Its not that she has more then one breed its that she breeds more then one breed as well as mixes. Then there is also what she told the op when she asked if the puppy could stay longer.

| ![]() I can honestly say that if I had come onto YT and posted about where I was getting Jackson from, everyone would have given me advice, etc, and I still probably would have went and got my dog. I had my heart set. And let's be honest... most breeders and rescues won't adopt out to people who are 17 or 18. Understandable... as I do not believe most 17/18 year olds are ready for a dog. I am the type of person out of the norm. Looking back... would I do it all again any differently? Nope. Jackson is the perfect dog for me and of course I would not trade him for anything. Sure, he came from a BYB, but at least he was in a home, and being loved on, and taken care of ... not rotting in a puppy mill cage, etc. Now, with that said, with a second dog, would I go to the same place? Probably not. I'd prefer to support someone who is concerned with bettering the breed as well as health testing. But I would pick a breeder who proves that her dogs have working capabilities over a show dog with multiple title championships or whatever. To me, simply having show dogs does not mean anything to me... if there is a breeder who has her dogs living in her home as pets, gets proper health testing, treats dogs right, screens for homes, etc, that's what matters to me. I probably see equally as many dogs here on YT with tons of health problems from good reputable breeders as those with pet store/BYB dogs. I will add that I was 18 when Jackson came into my life. He is my best friend and my sole responsibility. But it's a lot of extra work... my social life is, well, completely different since I have a dog. It's not fair to be gone all day, just come home, let him potty, and then go out again to have dinner with friends. Doesn't happen. He is a living breathing being with a personality who needs exercise (LOTS of it!), socialization, love, training and attention. Wanna go on vacation? Well I refuse to board him so my dad has to be available to watch him. If he's not, I don't go on trip. I don't LIKE to leave him when I don't have to, as I really enjoy being with him. So that does put a damper on some things and most friends my age simply don't understand that a dog not only requires to be let out to pee and pour some kibble into a bowl every once in a while... Just know that your life is going to be changing a lot in the next few years and that your dog is going to be a part of it. I can't even imagine leaving Jackson if my life got too busy for him, and lots of people do this to dogs (even adults). I can't even fathom! I cried sooo hard when he had to stay at the vet for ONE night; if I am on vacation for more than 3 nights, I can't even stand being away from him any longer. We are very tight and attached but a lot of people, and not just my age, would have no problem giving their dog another home if life got too busy, or a new baby was on the way, etc. I can't wait for Jackson to be a part of all of that with me. Oh, not to mention costs. It's definitely something you can never totally be prepared for. I knew dogs cost money, but I honestly did not know I'd be spending over $4000 in 3yrs on vet care for him, that's not including flea/tick/heartworm meds, collars, harnesses, toys, treats, and everything else I spend on him. And he's actually been a very healthy dog, but it just figures his three things that came up ending up being 3 very costly procedures lol. Otherwise good luck! Having a dog has completely changed my life, but for me, for the better. Sure, sometimes things would be easier if I did not have him, but he brings a smile to my face every day and a joy that can not be bought in other ways and he's completely worth it.

| ![]() Btw, I got Jackson at 9 weeks. He was already 5lbs. I did not have any issues whatsoever and preferred to get him at that age to start our bonding. I don't believe that three more weeks in that house would have done him any good. Not that it was a terrible situation, she was a single mother living in a rowhouse, she bred her pet Yorkie and raised the puppies in her bedroom, next to her bed every night. But I would have rather had him with me during those 9 - 12 weeks. While I do agree, that a lot of times staying until 12 weeks is ideal, getting a dog a bit earlier is not as bad as people make it seem, IMO, and it really depends on the situation and the dog itself. Quote:
I think I am a way better dog owner than about 90% of the adults over the age of 30 that I know who have dogs, who live their lives in the backyard every once in a while and coming in the house to just lay around as if they were floor ornaments.

![]() Let them learn the hard way. I am not saying this person she is getting her pup from is a good breeder, but I am also not saying they are necessarily bad. It's impossible to judge without seeing for ourselves. Yes no reputable breeder would have multiple breeds, especially 'chiweenies' (they are not even a real breed) but all we can do is inform. Would I recommend purchasing a dog from there? Well, no... but if the OP's mind is made, all we can do is wish for the best and teach. If I could go back in time and tell my 18 year old self everything I know now, I'd still go and get Jackson where I got him from, even knowing everything I know now. Maybe that makes me irresponsible. But I could not have asked for a better dog. With that said, would I seek out such a breeder when getting a 2nd dog? No... So, to the OP, I'd just know that you may have a greater risk going where you are going to get a dog and prepared for potential health issues. But honestly, even if you were going to a reputable breeder, those potential issues could still be there. So I don't know. The main reason I do not like BYBs is that they are adding to the overpopulation of dogs already in shelters... the good thing about a reputable breeder is they will always take a puppy back if for any reason you cannot keep it. With a BYB, they do not even ask about your lifestyle, and if you end up not being able to care for the dog anymore, it often goes to the shelter.... Puppy mills (dogs from pet stores) are a whole 'nother thing. I would never support purchasing from a puppy mill because you are putting money into the hands of those horrible horrible people and allowing your puppies mama and father dog to be bred over and over again living in absolute filth and horrible conditions.

| ![]() Hi roxysmom, first congrats on your new baby. I know it is super exciting to get a new puppy. I can't wait to see pics of her. I am sure she is beautiful though. My little boy oscar is 4 months old on the 18 th & he is 5 lbs 10 ozs. He is very short though so he looks much smaller. The breeder told me he may be around 8 lbs. Well anyway i bet you are anxious for thursday. The waiting is difficult but worth it . you are going to have so much fun. Keep us posted. Oscar & mommy...
