I still think anytime you take on a pet their is a risk for health issues and more so for small breeds. That doesn't mean only the very rich should own one. As long as one is prepared thats all you can do. Now she knows she has to be extra cautious and what to watch for and plan for. It sounds like she has a good support system in place, bought insurance and learned a lot on YT. I don't want to lose another person who could continue to learn a lot as she raises her baby. I hope Roxy has a long and healthy life with you.

THANK YOU! It's one thing to give advice on these things, but another matter to for everyone to pile on. I think she gets what she's got to watch out for and what challenges she faces. Enough!!!

Roxy's New Mom, you have gotten some very good advice here and I know you'll be a great Mommy. Please keep in mind that we are all here if you have any questions, and can't wait to see your baby Congratulations, and I'm sure that the next few days will feel very long to you Make sure you pick up a tube of Nutracal, just in case, and if you need to use it, make sure to follow it up with some food so that her blood sugar will balance out. The Nutracal will stimulate her appetite but if it's not followed up with food, her sugar can drop again even worse.

Good luck and please stick around. Everyone here cares very much and sometimes get carried away a little, but believe me when I tell you that their hearts are good

I doubt it I have had several people tell me how fed up they are with how old member are treating each other and I get it! When you have already bought the dog at own it before 12 weeks ok the damage is done then learn about what can happen and learn what to do next time but when you have the knowledge and then buy the dog under 8 weeks I think there is a problem. If people keep buying from these bad breeders they are just going to continue to sell. How many litters a year do the female yorkies at you "breeders" place have a year? Bet its more then it should be!
Having been around quite a long time both on YT and on this earth, all you can do is lead a horse to water you can't make him drink. I think when you are days away from getting your baby you are pretty invested.
Feel free to call me one of the polite police or whatever but that was the way I was raised to be. I still think you can get a point across in a nice way whether the person is new or long term member. Believe me I hate seeing any member leave new or old. I don't generally get involved in these type of threads as I don't need the stress so this will be my last post on this.

But in order to pay for her, it will be taking basically all of my savings. And I'm on a strict income, which leaves me plenty to get her food, hygeine products, etc. so there's nothing to worry about there, trust me.
I want to spoil her so bad! Because she is going to mean the world to me and more, of course! But I don't quite have the funds to go out and buy all of the extra things for her, as I'm a senior in high school. I'm wanting a companion to take with me when I have to leave home! I wanted to get the potty training puppy days over with whenever I'm still home, for it will be easier for the both of us I'm sure.

I feel awful asking this, and I don't want anyone to get the wrong idea and think that I'm taking advantage of what a wonderful place this is, its just kind of becoming my last resort.
I was wondering if there was anyone out there with clothes that maybe their yorkie had grown out of or just didn't like or maybe just didn't want or use anymore that they would be willing to get rid of. Hand-me-downs I guess you could say.. And not just clothes, any little thing would me AMAZING. I know what wonderful people are a part of this place, and I'm also new, so PLEASE don't take this the wrong way.
And if no one wants to take part in this I COMPLETELY understand, but I just thought it would be worth a try.

Thank you all SOOO much.
I am on a friends computer and only on briefly, I want to say welcome to Yorkie Talk, I just sent you a private message. Our Prairie Bea is a tiny one and she has a few lovely little dress's from when we first got her, I just sent you a personal message. Hope you can respond while I am still using my friends computer, I didn't get a chance to read the others postings but I am sure you will feel the warmth and love and caring from so many here on this site. Wishing you much joy with your new baby,am sooooo happy you found YT, I look forward to getting another computer and back on line visiting here and hearing the happy times you and Roxy are having together.

I have to agree. I tend to give advice and then it is up to the person. No need for me to badger or harp on and on.

OP, I wish you only the very best. We will be here if you need us.

Having a dog that came from a puppy mill before I found this site and knew all the stuff I know now, I could not understand why any one would want to to buy from a puppy mill or bad breeder after knowing its a bad breeder and could have many health problems. No I would not trade Callie for anything but it would have been nice to know about puppy mills and such when I was getting a puppy. I get so mad when people say well it will be ok and stuff when they haven't had a dog from a bad breeder or puppy mill that has problems. Callie came from a broker who got there dogs from a puppy mill. She has LP in both legs one had to have surgery for it because her ACL was partially torn the other will tear within 2 years, the allergies she have can get pretty bad, her skin breaks out like crazy, she has mild collapsing trachea which could cause problems when she gets older, she is definitely not to standard which is not a flaw to me but would be to some, she has hypoglycemic episodes that the cause can not be found and has its own problems like never being able to leave her alone. I just wish people would not do whats wrong when they know its wrong and then everybody wants to coddle them.

But you're kind of attacking me, she weighs over 2 pounds right now. I've been to her home twice now, everything is clean and healthy there. There are many other dogs, as she breeds dachshunds, chi-weenies, and maltese as well. I have seen her parents, they are beautiful and happy, as is she. They have all been health tested and do have a one year health guarantee. I've read a lot about yorkies before I decided to get one. I'm not stupid, I know about puppy mills. I AM prepared, and I'm not just going to take her back or something if she gets sick. I posted this asking if anyone had hand-me-downs in their yorkie closet that they were wanting to get rid of or anything, not for this to happen. I'm sorry you all are thinking these things, but I'm tired of being attacked by you. I can't believe you are accusing me of buying from a puppy mill!
Unfortunately, if it isn't a puppy mill, it kind of sounds like a back yard breeder since she's breeding several different breeds. Please just listen to those who have given you sound advice as they are experienced yorkie owners and truly know what they are talking about. They are not trying to scare you or attack you. They are simply preparing you for when you bring your little furbutt home.

You just cannot give it a rest! Who says this breeder is bad. Have you been there and checked it out? Yes, she's letting her puppies go at 8 weeks, but guess what...she's not the first nor the last to do that. There have been breeders right here on YT that sell their dogs before 12 weeks and they tell the buyer to not tell anyone on YT. Good grief.

Patti, who you quoted on your last message has a yorkie named Cali. She paid thousands for that yorkie and got her from an excellent breeder. Cali has numerous problems including grade 4 LP and very bad allergies to where she has to be on expensive meds each day.

Just because someone gets a dog from a pet store or a back yard breeder is not a guarantee that dog will have health problems, just as getting a dog from a good breeder does not guarantee that dog to be healthy. You take a chance whenever getting a puppy.

To the OP...I will pm you for your address. I would love to send you a few things.

Did you not see where this breeder breeds several other breeds as well as mixes that with the fact that shes letting puppies for at 8 weeks and that she is not willing to hold the puppy until its a little older for the buyer shows she is in it for the money only. I never said all the breeders on yorkietalk were good breeders either..........

Really? Have you not read all the post she posted about the breeder and all the red flags that go up about the breeder?

Roxysmom and I are around the same age. I know how excited she must be from saving up her own money, and buying herself her own puppy with her own money. That's how I bought Priscilla, I saved up. Roxysmom must be so hurt. Its one thing to express concern, but another thing to run it in the ground. I know most of the wonderful people on here are older, and probably no longer live at home, but it's an amazing feeling for me to know Priscilla is mine and that I bought her with my own money with no help with the initial cost from my mom. I know exactly how Roxysmom must be feeling right now.
