| Pee On The Floor Tyesha just turned 3 months and I have been potting training her. When i take her to the pad she pees on it. But it seems as if she gets lazy and pees on the floor when she's in the living room, knowing that the pad is not that far. My room mate is very upset because Tyesha would pee next to the pad instead of on the pad. She believes that Tyesha is testing us and she know what she is doing. But for goodness sake she's only 3 months what does she know. I told her that putting her in her crate won't do anything for her and all it does it takes time. But my room mate believes that you have to punish her she will learn, and that she has dealt with dogs all her life that's how you train them. (all her dogs being pitbulls and rockweliers). What should I do I know she's still learning and it takes time. So why is my room mate acting like if |

| Well she is half right. Not punish, but confine her to a small are with the pad and be confident that she will use it before you let her have the run of the house. Also, please remember that she is only 3 months old and does not have full controll of that bladder yet. She is a little Yorkie not a bid dog with a big bladder. So, she will learn as she grows and is can hold her potty for as long as it takes to find the pad. Keep it consistant. Oh, and maybe she is missing the pad because she is small and a puppy. My Sadie used to smell up to the paper and just start to pee. She didn't realize she was not on it but she knew to go to it. That is progress. She will get it. Don't put her in a cage. Your roommate is nuts. Unless you plan to crate train her. But why make it a punishment. Oh, well. Your roommate can't really believe that your puppy is missing the pad just to piss her off. Tell her to find something else to fight about and enjoy your little Yorkie. |

| i have always heard "don't expect too much until they are at least 5 mo.) and i think by going by that ,i didn't expect much. and so every little step Ahia took to being trained was a good one. when she made a mistake i would just tell her "no no, out!" and take her out and say potty.( I couldn't do the pee pads because she wanted to just shread them) they are just little and young and they don't know what you want out of them. the only way they will get the message thru is to praise . they want to please you. (or get their treat) it is like teaching them to sit. saying the word don't mean anything ,but by saying the word and pushing on the little hiney they soon learn what sit means to you. potty training is something you have to give your total attention and stay on it.

| my 4 month yorkie boy used to do that all the time. it was frustrating becuz he'd miss the wee wee pad by like half an inch! but, i never yelled or punished him, becuz i figured that at least he's peeing in the right area. someone told me to take a paper towel and absord his pee pee from the place he made his accident and then place that paper towel in the middle of the wee wee pad. i would lay the soiled paper towel flat. what happened was -- the next time he had to pee, he went to the soiled paper towel in the middle of the pad and peed there! after that, i praised and praised him...eventually he figured out he had to pee in the middle of the pad! oh and make sure u scrub out the area he messed up on, cuz if he smells that, he'll go pee there again. hope this helps! |

| NEVER punish her for peeing where shes not supposed to my goodness shes a little baby u cant expect her to be fully potty trained.... how is ur friends mind ur puppy is small and needs a lot of time, i know yorkies are intelligent but u cant expect miracles, u cant compare a yorkie to a rotweiler or bullterrier........... if u punish her for peeing everywhere she will turn out to be a nervous little yorkie coz she really doesnt know what u mean when she gets punished if u catch her on the spot u can pick her up and put her on her pad... also she needs to be put on the pad when she wakes up, after a meal and between playing.... she is NOT trying to see how far she can go, she has NO clue what "testing" U is about!!!! Tip: dont let ur puppy see u clean up after shes done what shes not suppose to do coz they interpret that as... "ur paying attention to what she did, u like it"... dont rase ur voice AFTER.... its too late and she gets confused!! it will all come right in time... praise her when she does it right if u got a treat ready, give it to her right away. u can repremand and correct her but i have never believed in punishment. | Ask your friend is she'd expect a human baby to get it right at 3 months or even at 12 months. Try moving the paper around. Peeing close to the paper is GREAT! I could never get mine to on paper at all. My pup is just now REALLY getting it and he's 4.5 months. I've had him for 6 weeks. He can pee on cue outside. He can't poop on cue, but who can? LOL I had to use treats to get him to realize what a great thing he was doing. I was consistent with the treats at first and now that he's got it down...I just give him a treat here and there to keep him guessing. I'm sure he'll be completely housebroken by 6 months. |

| ok...... i have to say that i tried the "no punishment and no raising my voice system" but it didnt work for me, and toby got just as confused by me praising him or ignoring him...... so.... i tried the punishment method (mind you he is older, i started this method when he was four months because i was sick of nto getting any results. and i mean NONE) .... Ok so when he would pee on the carpet i would yell at him, whether i saw him do it or not. Yorkies arent stupid, i dont know who came up with that "dont punish it will confuse them, because i have heard it other places too". Anyways, he knew exactly what i was yelling about from the very begining, now he is 98% pad trained, he will even come up and act guilty if he had an accident, the phrase bad dog now has a wonderful ring to it..... i dont even have to say it loud! he associates that phrase with somethign wrong and now as a result look at that percentage........ i know A LOT of you guys dont believe in this method, but i tried the other one that you all follow and it didnt work for anything..... you can argue with me all you want, but toby IS NOT a nervous wreck and you cannot argue with results. |

well -- i never had a problem with the poopy. for some reason he always did that on the wee wee pad. i couldn't leave the poop out, becuz i swear, he may be this little thing, but his poops stink so bad!!! i have to flush those things right away...the hardest problem with me is the pee. but one weird thing -- i don't know if anyone else has experienced this, my yorkie will only poopy on the same wee wee pad by the kitchen and will not pee on that pad. he pees on other pads in my living room and hallway. i wonder if they think the two are different??? he doesnt' like to do both on the same pad. weird... | |

| crate training is when you stick them in a crate (nice roomy cage) when you are not able to keep your eye on them, or you are not home...... Toby LOVES his crate it is like his "safe Place" also, they dont like to potty where they sleep. So this sort of helps along the process of "holding it" and going where they are supposed to, and nto making a mess everywhere. When you take them out of their crate you put them on their pee pad, that way they get teh "routine" and start going on their own..... its worked out well, adn cut down on the amount of damage he causes by cheweing and messing. |
