| Upsetting I would like advice in case this ever happens again: I was sitting at and out door cafe with me Yorkie and a woman with her Yorkie came up to pet mine. I was shocked at the state her dog was in Eyes filthy with matter, obviously not washed or groomed in ages. She seemed to like her dog or I don't supposed she would have brought her out. But I wanted to offer to grown the dog, I wanted to tell her how bad for the dog this was. Instead I hoped she could see the difference in our two animals and maybe do something. I feel so bad that I did nothing, what should I have done |

| Hum, just politely ask what groomer she uses. If she doesn't have one then either make a recommendation or offer to give her some pointers. Maybe she will take a hint. |

| Well the thing is you never know what is going on in someones life... BUT if you really feel in your heart something negative then say something. Just say it in a way they isnt going to be disrespectful. I am the type of person to bring something like that up, but that is just me

| Very hard to know the situation with a stranger. Maybe this is just right before her grooming and the woman had to run out for something and you just caught the pup on a bad day. Unless you see them again and this is the regular state of of the pup, I probably wouldn't have said anything. One time I ran through the drive-thru of a local diner (where I'm a regular wednesday visitor for their potato-cabbage soup) and ZoE was looking a lil rough after a day of playing outside and the guy asked me I had had gotten another dog..lol But the next day, after a bath, nail trim & new bow she was back to her beautiful self.

| Some Yorkies are more prone to eye gunk than others. Some look horrendous if not done daily. Also, my Mojo can look greasy 4 days after his last bath. It really is hard to tell with a stranger. Maybe she was on her way to the groomer... maybe she'd been sick a couple days, etc. I think our babies can look disheveled very quickly. It's really hard to tell without knowing the person. Of course, we didn't see the baby in person, either. If you were shocked, I'm sure it had to be bad.

| Well you dont know what had been going on in that ladys life lately that maybe she hadnt taken her dog to a groomer and lack of grooming unless there is bad matting isnt neglect. I would say something but be tactful and as kind as you could be. It could be that she is really distressed that her dog needs a grooming or she could be someone that doesnt take them to the groomer you never know which way it is

| Nala goes to daycare once a week to play and give my older dog a much needed break. Yesterday when I dropped her off, she smelled so good, was fresh and clean and had a clean face. When I picked her up... she came running in from the play yard looking like a very happy stray. Her face was wet... looked like she had stuck the whole bottom of her face in the water bowl... she didn't smell so great and her bow was half untied and hanging down the center of her face. We had to run an errand on the way home and she definitely wasn't at her best. She couldn't even keep her eyes open.. she looked drugged. There is no telling what people who saw her thought, but she was a very happy little girl! Now she is all fresh and clean again and Bailey is happy because Nala has been sleeping all day.

| Oh goodness. Levi goes to the groomer every 8 weeks, and he can still look like a sweet little disaster if we are headed home from a walk or the park or somewhere he has been playing hard. I know he's come back from the dog park many times with muddy paws and tangled hair - but happy, healthy, and cared for. He doesn't always get a bath or a brushing before making a public appearance, so I am sure sometimes my crazy wild man looks a bit messy. But if this stranger's pup really looked neglected, I'd find some to bring it up gently. I think the question of "what groomer do you use" is a good idea. It's not a confrontational question, but it gets to the point. |

| You are tender hearted and just seeing a Yorkie who is a mess breaks your heart. But, I wouldn't have said anything either. It is different if you know the person and the dog. As most of the posters pointed out, it could be a one time thing. If you came to my house today you would be shocked. I have been stuck on the bed or sofa since my accident Sunday. (Hubby has been out of town for a month.) Anyway, Ginny Joy decided to chew on bark mulch and dig a body sized hole in the yard. Then she came in and gulped water. I could see muddy water drip off her beard. This morning she was brushed, had a Foofoo bow and looked adorable. Abba chewed mulch too and and just shook and showered the floor with (dog safe) wood pieces. Sigh... So even a picky, crazy, dog lady, like me can have a messy dog , for a little while.

| I dont think I would say anything because you really dont know whats going on in her life. Sammy's hair on his head and face grows very fast and if we wait even a week to long he looks uncared for but hes not. Callie depending on the weather and stuff can get greasy looking after a few days also she has environmental allergies and does take meds for them but sometimes when we go out they still get a little runny and goopie although I do take tissues with me to dab at them. Also there can some times be a wait at the groomer so she might just be waiting until her groomer can get her in.

| I share about this great forum that I am a member of where I have gotten so much wonderful advice on care and feeding and training of my sweet baby. Sometimes I take the oppertunity to share things like the kind of brush, shampoo, food, insurance and the list goes on. I will even offer to write the name of the forum down for them. |

Katie Scarlett's Mommy Donating Member | Awww! Poor thing! I too don't think I would say anything. You never know if you might offend them, even if it is just a hint. But I'm from the South originally. I was raised to be very polite and not say anything that I thought might hurt someone's feelings. And too, like the others said, you never know what might be going on in her life. She may be going through an illness, loss of job, etc. I do feel sorry for the poor Yorkie though. Maybe he wil get a good grooming soon.
