| Dogs of the leash Just wondred if people let there dogs of the leash when out walking? We never or rarely let ours of only if we are up in a deserted field as i beleive you never can know another dogs history. We have 3 furbabies Jasmine who is 3 and 60lbs Lily who is about 18months and 11lbs and Logan who is 12weeks and 3lbs and they are all great well behaved babies but how do i know every other dog down the park is Jasmine was bitten by a small dog when she was 6months old. Jasmine was on her leash this other dog was not and charged over to her and bit her but because jasmine is a lab and this was a little dog the owner thought this was okay even though it had drawn blood i bet if it had been the other way around she would have been demanding jasmine be euthanised anyway since this we have been working with jasmine on fear issues she has when other dogs are around that she dosnt know she is fine if they are in her garden or in her house but gets scared and barks/growls/cries if she sees other dogs when we are out She is getting a lot better with training but i just wish people would keep better control of their dogs instead of letting them charge around of the leash. It also shouldnt matter if your dog is little or large biting other dogs or people shouldnt be brushed of as it does effct that other animal as 2 and a half years later we are only just starting to get jasmine out walking without any issues. I love my little dogs lots and lots but i dont understand little dog owners who are quick to critisize a big dog who is a biter or barker but brush of their own dog who is runing around biting just because the physical damage they can do is less rant over. yvonne xx

| I do not let my dogs off leash unless we are in a fenced in area. First of all, most places have leash laws and therefore it is breaking the law to have them off leash. Secondly, and most importantly, you never know what a dog might see that peaks their interest beyond the point of listening to you. That is simply not a risk I am willing to take with my pets safety.

| Never unless I am training Tibbe to stay in the front yard and not leave the premises. Then I take his leash off so he has to listen to my words and my body language rather than be restricted by the leash. Otherwise, I keep him on the leash for his safety. In his own backyard, he can run and play off leash all he wants. He doesn't seem to mind at all being on leash when we are out walking but even if he did, I would be too scared to let him run free.

| I must check the laws here although i have never heard of any other than pit bulls are banned. It just amazes me that people are willing to take that risk with their pets as lets face it Jasmine who is 60lbs could do a lot of damage to a little dog if she decided to although she has never bitten any dog or person ever people dont know that and she barks and whines showing she feels frightened so u would think they would get their dogs under control Still i will continue to keep my furbabies on leash and safe yvonne xx

| I keep Sparky on the leash unless at home, in the backyard, or the dog park.

| Despite my dedication and unconditional love for my dogs, they think the whole world is more exciting than I, and would bolt into the horizon never to be seen again if I let them off leash. They have 4 feet of freedom in all four directions but I prefer if they just walk nicely along my side.

| My dogs are never off the leash unless they are in the fenced area of our property. They would run in no time. I am always with them. We have 5 acres of land, but they only have a small area to run around. We also have leash laws plus not interested in them getting hurt.

| My dogs are allowed off leash in my fenced in backyard and that is it. Not in public, not ever. The leash laws are there to protect everyone. I watched a guy in the HomeDepot parking lot walk from the store to his truck with a beautiful scottie trotting behind him,,,NO LEASH. I wanted to jump out of the truck and let him have it. His dog was walking on HOT blacktop,in a parking lot with moving cars and trucks. I used to be able to take my babies to a microbrewery here in FtW until some yuts let their min-snauzer pick a fight with a great dane. The dane just stood there like, would someone please get this off of my neck! The only dog that has charged me lately while on a walk was a 2lb chi REALLY. The owner was very apologitic but REALLY, put it on a leash. |

| I think off leash dogs have a time and a place. In a neighborhood? Nope, I don't want to see any dog off leash. In a park or a public place with a leash law? Nope. I think everyone should abide by the rules. But I definitely don't believe that every dog should be on leash 24/7 either. It's really nice that we have places, such as dog beaches, dog parks (unfenced and fenced) that people are allowed to let their dogs off leash. I love visiting SC and seeing all these dogs off leash having fun in the water on the beach and it'd be a shame if that were taken away from them. Some dogs are fantastic off leash and certain breeds are also more prone to stick around. I'm 99% sure Jackson would be fine off leash. But, he is a terrier, and a fast moving bunny rabbit is something he certainly will chase. Every time he's ever gotten loose or had the opportunity to be off, he's great. But we practice recall a lot. I often let him drag his leash in large fields (away from roads). Or when we play fetch outside, etc, I just am more comfortable with the leash so he'd be easier to grab if necessary. He's also fine if I drop his leash at a park to take a picture and things like that. So yeah, I think off leash dogs have a time and a place. But if there is a leash law, then no. And off leash dogs should have manners and obey their owners -- not cool for a dog of any size to go running up to another dog or human uninvited.

| Gracie is never let off lead in public. We don't have a dog park but I doubt I would even take her to one if we did. There are just too many people who have no clue about how to train a dog. I want Gracie close enough to me that I can pick her up if a untrustworthy dog starts toward her. |

| Not a chance. There is no reason to take a risk over somethine like this. If there is no fence/enclosure, then a leash or tieout is used (and I don't leave pups out alone). I have met no dogs that listen well enough to chance something like this. The two that were let out alone because they were trusted enough to stay in the yard were both hit and killed by cars.

| I have to mention, too, that we plan on buying a house soon (now in a townhouse with postage stamp sized yard), and we won't be letting Ozzy out in the yard by himself even if its fenced. In the area we live in there are too many wild animals around, including hawks, eagles, large cats, and coyotes. I've lost 2 house cats now to coyotes (the last cat was indoor only, but managed to sneak out undetected ). Ozzy will be off leash in our yard, but will still always be supervised. |

| I never let mine off lead. The couple of times he has darted out the door, he has followed us, but I'm too afraid he would run off to let him out on purpose. My dad doesn't use a leash on his Yorkie, he is ALWAYS off leash. He always follows my dad and will not run away, but there have been a few close calls where he nearly got attacked. |
