My weak tummy would revolt the moment I walked into a restaurant with food on the table and saw a Saint Bernard sitting nearby. I couldn't eat a bite. It would definitely be a way to keep my girlish figure!!!! I could get down to a 0 in a week!

As for the kids in public topic. we have to remember kids are small humans they HAVE to learn how to exist in society. yes parents should take it upon themselves to leave if the children are load or disruptive,no exceptions.

I have a good friend who has a child who is autistic and he has been know to throw tantrums his mother and father always leave the building until he calms down.
I feel that even if you are sitting in a Denny's or a pizza place you should still have the right to a peaceful meal without a child crying and throwing a tantrum and yelling and throwing food. it's disgusting.

I have a 17 year old sister and a 11 year old brother who both have emotional issue from being abandoned by our mother there have been times when they have started to cry in public and sometimes quite loudly however i have taught them to step out to the car and calm down then come back i would never subject the people around me to them crying or yelling

I guess you would just get used to. I mean there are not 20 dogs in each restaurant..and I have never seen a saint bernard in a restaurant either lol. I mean when you eat at home , you dog(s) is/are there too .

We take our dogs to eat at places that welcome them-like on a patio. I wouldn't sneak them into a restaurant but I do sneak them into stores and such. Sometimes, we'll get to-go and just eat in the car with the (fur)kids.

That could be it!!! Americans are eating in restaurants with less hair on our food. How did we miss that until now?!?! That would probably whittle us all right down to the nub - just eating with all those dogs and the special condiments they could add to our food. I can tell the Europeans don't have my hair-on-food revulsion or they would all be anorexic. Ha! Just joking around.

My husband was like that too, though. If he found a hair on his food, he would have a quiet word with the manager and walk right out. Course Americans got really fat once the country stopped smoking and drinking coffee all day. I think Europe still smokes way more than America. If you look at old American movies, newreels and TV shows where people smoke alot, they are almost all thin. Oh, well, I still love all doggies even though I don't like to eat in restaurants next to them!!!

Europeans may smoke more than Americans but that is not the reason they are more skinny. Europeans generally eat healthier and less greasy and fast food. They also walk/bike a lot more..no driving needed to go to the grocery store. Well we are a little off-subject lol

I think we are all just going to have to agree to disagree on this topic..lol..I respect everyone's views, but I still think that taking a dog into a resturant where you know they arent allowed is breaking the rules and disrespectful to others and the owners of the establishment. Even if they are discreetly in a carrier, and how can you possibly know if you have caused an allergy attack on someone else, everyone has different symptoms. Itchy rashes, etc. that might show up later not at that direct moment. JMO

This is probably a hotly debated topic. I did not read the whole thread. Although I am not all that much a rule follower I know whatever applies to me applies to everyone. Sooo although my boys are clean and UTD on shots and all that good stuff, other people's dogs may not be and I certainly do not want them in a food store or restaurant where I am eating. Food stores, restaurants and Emergency Rooms, I don't think pets need to visit those places unless they HAVE to.

I bring him with me to outdoor restaurants that allow pooches. He's very well behaved and just sits at my feet or on the bench with me.

I think it depends... to me, someone putting a small dog in a bag and running into a store for a quick trip doesn't seem like a big deal, even if it's technically not allowed. But eating a restaurant where they are not allowed and there is food just seems wrong... it doesn't seem like it'd be fun for the dog, either, to be locked away in a purse anyways, they'd probably be happier at home...
I agree, it will be stressful for the baby

This is so true. Even while walking around in Canada just an hour over the border I notice fewer obese people in comparison with walking around at home. It is crazy how the difference in culture effects weight. At fast food restaurants in B.C., their serving sizes are much smaller as well.

Now we are completely taking this thread in a different direction

DH isn't for it, and I can see where he is coming from. Some people just don't enjoy/love/think of pets as highly as I do, and would consider it unhealthy or unsanitary. I think there are much less sanitary things to worry about in a public restaurant, but DH's argument is that it is inconsiderate. I would love to get Whitney trained well enough to sneak her into a movie or some place like that undetected! I'm undecided on the restaurant thing though. What do you guys think?
I think that your dh has a point, it would be inconsiderate if pets aren't allowed or even if not stated clearly that they're not allowed, and others are not bringing their furkids there

I remember when Homedepot allowed pets until one day we went there and we were told it wasn't allowed anymore It was terrible on us because we barely leave our furkids home alone. But talking to the manager, we learned that some people did not clean up after their dogs, some were large breeds, aggressive and/or loud. I picture myself shopping and having to worry about stepping on #1 or #2 or the loudness, etc.

HB was upset and told the manager that not being able to shop with our pooches would put a big damper on our willingness to spend our money there. But, I got it Not everyone takes care to make it pleasant for the rest of us too, so we all pay.

I love Long Horn and I used to eat there at least twice a week (now only 1-2 a month because my pooches aren't welcomed) I wouldn't have minded small pups at the next table, but a huge St-Bernard, Bulldog, etc., drooling/slobbering...I don't think I would have enjoyed my Filet Mignon.

So I figured it MUST be fair across the board. If my little ones were welcomed, so must ALL other pets be welcomed (even lizards ??). I make sure my babies are clean and not wondering all over the place. In short, I want it to be a nice experience for everyone, but my opinion of making it pleasant for everybody may differ from everybody else's opinion.

So, we eat out and patronage places where it is clearly stated that my babies are welcomed and everybody's happy

I can't wait to go to Europe where I hear it's very animal friendly everywhere

Just had to let PA people know...we were at Hostetter's Hardward Store this past week, got a weber grill, and we had pup in carrier. Employee that helped us made a point to ask us if bringing in our pet helped decide if we shopped there. We said yes. He said please tell friends that have pets, Hostetter's is a pet-friendly store and welcomes customers with pets. We live in the Lancaster area, so if anyone lives in this area, Hostetter's welcomes pets.

I don't mind a pet in a carrier next to me in a restaurant or a service dog. We actually tend to gravitate towards stores that welcome our little one - she lies in her carrier and you never hear a peep from her.

I say sneak...I don't sneak her into food joints, but I DO sneak her into clothing stores. Lol. I'm not comfortable taking her into places with food. Especially since she's not so well behaved yet.
I take my little ones to stores too, in their stroller so that I can shop in peace. I find (at least where I am) that it's okay. I ask the manager first, though. I explain that they'll be in their stroller and that I walk them outside first so that there will be no accident (uncomfortable smells coming from the stroller). Even Homedepot and Lowe's have come to accept it

But I don't do it in closed-in restaurants or where there's food, like grocery stores and such, for obvious reasons, plus it would be torture for my babies not being able to sample something that smells like CHICKEN

I know...some are gonna have a problem with this. I have a problem with many of the people I see out too...the smokers, those coughing & hacking with illness, those that don't seem to know how to use a shower, those greasy workers reeking of oil/gas that stop at a my local diner on their lunch break....and so many others. My pup is clean, healthy & UTD on shots...wish more of the general public was
SOOOOOO right, you are
