Donating YT 4000 Club Member | Welcome Kim! I'm close by you in Cumming. Your Bazinga and my Scarlett share the same bday. You sound like you've got a great handle on things already. As far as floor cleaners and such- I use a steam mop and Nature's Miracle. We are going through a grooming challenge, too. Scarlett hates everything to do with it at the moment. I've found that brushing her out is the easiest if I do it in the evening just before she falls asleep. Can't wait to see pics of your little man.

No Longer a Member | Wow, that is a very unique name! Bazinga! I love it, looks like you did some research before you picked him up and are doing well. Sorry I don't have any advice, but there are quite a few experienced yorkie owners on that can help you! Welcome! |

YT 2000 Club Donating Member | On the bathing front, I've always wrapped my babies up in lots of towels after bath and cuddled with them close to my chest for a bit until they have stopped shaking, you can also keep part of your dog covered while you blow dry one part of him Also make sure you dry his ears well inside and out. Make sure you keep his ear canal clean and open. Sometimes that may mean you need to pluck the inside hairs. You can speak to your vet about this and get her to show you how if you are unsure about it. Bath time is perfect time to check your baby all over. Also make sure to check his rear end, anus glands, there is something at times you might need to do, called expressing his glands, talk to your vet about this too. Teeth and mouth: get your baby used to having his teeth looked at and touched. you can use your baby finger to just glide along his teeth for now. Look at the color of his gums, should be nice and pink and moist. And Welcome to YT

| Welcome to YT! As everyone else has already said, sounds like you have a pretty good grasp on everything which is great!! Congrats on your new baby With the blow drying situation, I have the same problem with my pup so I bought a pet blow dryer that is hands free so I can keep him held in his towel and warm while still blow drying him. Its still a process haha but each time I do it he seems to get more comfortable. How's the potty training coming along?? That is another process in and of itself haha

| Thanks!!!! Thank you all for the warm welcome! I really appreciate all the advice and words of encouragement! Lots of you asked about Potty training. Potty training is actually going ok. He is a boy, so he does occasionally make little pees around the house if we play w/ him too long, but when he's in his room (the bathroom - we have a nice step over gate so we can keep an eye on him) he goes on the puppy pad EVERY TIME! He does really really good! He also recently started to "sit" and "fetch" pretty good, which is exciting! Oh...and this is a little TMI, but I've noticed that when giving Bazinga a bath sometimes he has a little piece of poopy stuck in his hair on his booty. Ofc, I soak it and get it out, but does anyone else have this issue? Liz821 - I just moved to GA from OH in May and am living in Alpharetta. That's cool that we live in the same town. We should get our little ones together for a play date at a park or something one time, after Bazinga finishes up his shots...I think he still has a few rounds to go. I heard that feeding canned food can be "addicting" so that's why I hadn't been feeding canned. I tried putting some dry food in his bowl last night, but he can't seem to keep it in his mouth. he just drops it while he tries to bite it... Rhetts_mama - Also awesome that you live in Cumming. We should get our little ones together for a play date at a park or even at the lake out that way sometime. Bazinga's not totally done w/ his shots just yet though. And how totally neat is it that they share the same birthday! I love it!!!! haha. I think you're right about the steam mop...that may just be the way to go. I just don't feel right about using chemicals I don't know are safe for him on the floor (especially b/c of how short he is) but at the same time I don't see how that Paw Friendly stuff can kill any germs....do you recommend a brand? gemy - thank you for the ear cleaning tips. My husband said he noticed that they smell a little, so I'm guessing I need to keep a better eye on them. Is it safe to use puppy wipes inside the ear??? Seems like the easiest way to me... Thank you all again for this...I feel so welcome!!! |

| I would love to get the babies together once Bazinga is in the clear with his shots! My two just finished up their shots today so they are free to play and socialize with other dogs! Yay! Yes, it's common for them to get a little bit of poop stuck to their fur in the back. The best remedy I know of (again, not an expert) is to keep the fur trimmed around their bottom. Otherwise, just resign yourself to the fact that they have to have the occasional "butt bath" as it is lovingly referred to in my house. Sorry about the kibble issue. Maybe when he gets a bit bigger you can try again. Do you know how big he is supposed to get? How big were mom and dad? My 2 are right around 4# and they are 16 weeks old. Mom was around 7 lbs. and dad was 4lbs. something, so I'm guessing they will be around 6 or 7 lbs. when they are full grown. You are way ahead of me on the house breaking...we are trying to teach our two to go in the yard, which at this stage requires lots of supervision and waiting for them to decide to potty. Sometimes we just give up and go back in the house then one of them decides to go within 5 minutes! I guess it will just take awhile considering there are two of them and we've only had them for two weeks! |

Potty Training - Well apparently I bragged on Bazinga a little too early. He used the bathroom tonight on the rug, but I'm sure my husband wasn't watching him like he should have been. I mean, he's still just a little puppy so I'm sure these accidents will continue to happen for a little bit. I am proud of him for how good he does most of the time, though. I've NEVER potty trained anything before so this should be interesting when we start trying to outside potty train him! Haha. Shots - Bazinga has had 2 of his distemper shots, and I'm not sure how many more he's supposed to get. I know he's got a couple more weeks before he can get his next one. I think being around other dogs will be REALLY good for him, so I'll definitely keep you posted on that. I plan on putting him through a puppy class w/ my vet this fall when they start the next round. | |

[/QUOTE] Im not sure about puppy wipes as I don't use them so don't know their ingredients. I use an ear cleaner made for dogs. There are several brands you can get in the pet store. Good nose on Daddy, I forgot to mention that can be one of the first things you notice, a "smell". Here's the thing you need to clean inside of the ear canal and not just the upper inside ear. I use a flat cosmetic pad to clear the upper inner ear. I do use Q tips for the ear canal, but if you aren't sure about those, you can use a cotton ball and dose it with the ear solution, make it smaller by twisting it, and with a curving motion clean ear canal. You can have vet show you just how deep you can go. The Butt stuff: Quite normal to find especially in a puppy some er evidence of potty. I do do what you do, soak it, remove it, and wash really throughly. Also it does get better honestly. You will learn how to trim hairs around anus, and if you keep your dog clipped short, you won't have a problem very often as he matures.
