You sound like you've got a great handle on things already. As far as floor cleaners and such- I use a steam mop and Nature's Miracle.
We are going through a grooming challenge, too. Scarlett hates everything to do with it at the moment. I've found that brushing her out is the easiest if I do it in the evening just before she falls asleep.
