Yes, it's common for them to get a little bit of poop stuck to their fur in the back. The best remedy I know of (again, not an expert) is to keep the fur trimmed around their bottom. Otherwise, just resign yourself to the fact that they have to have the occasional "butt bath" as it is lovingly referred to in my house. Sorry about the kibble issue. Maybe when he gets a bit bigger you can try again. Do you know how big he is supposed to get? How big were mom and dad? My 2 are right around 4# and they are 16 weeks old. Mom was around 7 lbs. and dad was 4lbs. something, so I'm guessing they will be around 6 or 7 lbs. when they are full grown. You are way ahead of me on the house breaking...we are trying to teach our two to go in the yard, which at this stage requires lots of supervision and waiting for them to decide to potty. Sometimes we just give up and go back in the house then one of them decides to go within 5 minutes! I guess it will just take awhile considering there are two of them and we've only had them for two weeks! |
I'm not sure how big he's supposed to get. I know his mom & dad were both around 7 lbs, but right now Bazinga is around 2lbs @ 13 wks, so I have a feeling he's going to be a bit of a runt. He was the smallest puppy in the litter.
Potty Training - Well apparently I bragged on Bazinga a little too early. He used the bathroom tonight on the rug, but I'm sure my husband wasn't watching him like he should have been. I mean, he's still just a little puppy so I'm sure these accidents will continue to happen for a little bit. I am proud of him for how good he does most of the time, though. I've NEVER potty trained anything before so this should be interesting when we start trying to outside potty train him! Haha.
Shots - Bazinga has had 2 of his distemper shots, and I'm not sure how many more he's supposed to get. I know he's got a couple more weeks before he can get his next one. I think being around other dogs will be REALLY good for him, so I'll definitely keep you posted on that. I plan on putting him through a puppy class w/ my vet this fall when they start the next round.
