| I am so sorry ![]() Back in the day my parents wanted a husky mix and had their name on the list at the pound...so one day they call stating they have a girl available! We lived out in the country so we said we could get there in a half an hour. We rushed around and ran up there only to discover they were giving the dog to someone else because they were there first even THOUGH we were on our way!! So we also waited around to see what happened and of course they took her and we went home w/no dog. We later found out the dog got out (they lived in town) and got ran over just a couple of weeks later. So sad!!

That's what BIL was saying about Katie, "first person with $400 can adopt her". I said that's not how it works. You want to keep the dogs from coming back to shelters or rescue. Make sure the person and the dog are a match. If they are not, the likelihood of the dog being returned, sold, or worse abandoned goes way up. Esp with all the money rescues use to make these pups healthy (like Katie's surgery) it wouldn't make sense to just give them away to the first person. I know shelters don't work the same way as rescues, but the point is the same, saving the dogs from being back or being pts. They should have checked references. Rachel, I'm sorry it didn't work out for you, but the right one will come along when the time is right.

| I personally know how the spca and animal rescue shelters work, both of mine came from them. i just happened to walk into the spca an hour after jj first came in and a friend told me he would be perfect for me and he was. i got my application in first so i got him when he was available two days later, but only because i was first one there. my second on i got from an animal shelter and i had called when i first saw her in the add on internet. they told me that it was first come first served the day she was available. i went down that day to see her and loved her, but told that someone else was interested in her and that i should try to be there at least an hour or more before they opened the next day, well i got there at 6:45am on a very snowy day. they were due to open at 10am, i waited. at 9:45 an officer came out and said they were not going to open because of all the snow, the city was shut down. i went home but was there at 6:30 the next morning, thank goodness my neighbor had a four wheel drive to get around. at about 8am the workers showed up and at about 8:15 another car drove up, it was the other people interested in my dog. thank god i got there before them, the workers told them we had been there two days in a row waiting so they left and the workers ended up letting us have her an hour early. my hubby and jj just loved her when we got home, we now have had her for 3 months and its great. like everyone said, when its right it will happen and you will be thrilled with the results. |

| Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | I'm sorry for you - I really am - lets look at the upside - there was a line waiting to take home a puppy in a shelter ! How many times does that happen ? ![]() Normally there's no one there to offer their home to these dogs and this baby had TWO homes ! You'll find a dog - there is always a reason these things happen - maybe she was meant to have that little dog and your new shelter dog is right around the corner an even better match for you ! |

| As I said before, Animal Control is totally different than the SPCA or private rescue groups. Our Animal Control here has a 23% adoption rate. The rest are euthanized. They are not picky about where the pets go because any home is preferable to being put to sleep. Since they run on our tax dollars, they also don't have the manpower to spend making endless phone calls checking references. Our local AC uses people who have been convicted of a crime and on probation to work there. I am actually surprised that the YTCA Rescue or another rescue wasn't contacted when this dog was brought in. That's what usually happens with purebred dogs. |

It's nice she works in a vet office and has experience with yorkies! It's a plus but doesn't mean YOUR a better home for the dog. Just because someone works in a vets office doesn't mean any more then you have a job, it has benefits but what if that lady has a good job and has lots of cash? Big deal shes in an apartment. Yorkies are great for apartments. I just don't think based on the info she said about this lady she has the right to judge that she isn't a good home for the dog. Everyone has to start somewhere being a dog owner. How do you know she hasn't been researching? It's just unfortunate that the shelter picked who was willing to pay first. That's their fault and it sucks but it's life. Everything isn't always fair. I just don't see why labeling someone a not good fit because you think your better. Just because you work in a vets office and have experience with yorkies doesn't make you higher above every other dog owner, just saying!

so i'll pray this lady did that for the right reasons, but i can't say i believe that she really was there to help that yorkie but rather to scoop up a very cheap yorkie and go show it off!! and seeing her at petsmart the same day picking out dog clothing with her girl friend didn't make me feel that she knew much about that pup needing immediate vet care and immediate grooming attention either!
