| I got so scared today!!!! I bought Sophie a new Coach collar (xs) while we were in Orlando last week. I thought I'd put it on her so she'd get used to it. So, I did and it is so cute and she wore it for a while. Then she started messing with it trying to get it off and SHE GOT IT STUCK IN HER MOUTH!!!! I was freaking out!!! DH was home, too so he rushed over and helped me get it off. She was yelping and crying and I was so scared that I had maybe hurt her by pulling her jaw trying to get it off. Finally we got it off and DH took it off. I only plan on using it for ID purposes while we are out and I don't plan on her wearing it all the time, but that scared me so bad!!!! I walk her with a harness and she's plenty used to that. Do your babies eventually get used to collars, too? I also am planning on getting her microchipped, too but I want the collar for extra ID protection. Any suggestions for getting her used to it? |

| I think it might have been too loose if she got it in her mouth. Couver has always worn a collar, and I of course walk him on a harness, so it didn't take him anything to get used to it. It makes me feel better knowing that he has external id (he is also microchipped) so that anyone that finds him can call me asap. I would just say have her wear it when you are around for a while to see how she gets used to it. Maybe take it off when you are not there for a while until she grows more into it, or you can tighten it enough so she cannot get it in her mouth. That would be a scary experience!! I'm glad she's ok!

| I think she'll get used to it eventually. Every dog is so different. I have a friend with two Maltese and each wears a different color Coach collar. One of the girls is always flipping her jaw under her collar as if to show it off to you, like you won't notice it unless she gets her jaw under it to shove it in your face. Once you notice it and make over it, then she slips her jaw back out, it falls back into place and she is content to go about her business.

| She may be scared of collars from that experience. I use cat break away collars on Uni. (They are like $3 at walmart) When we were teaching her how to play basketball, her collar got stuck on the hoop and she freaked out. Still to this day she does not touch the edge of the rim.

| The collar was probably too loose. On little dogs, it's not the "be able to put two fingers" rule of thumb that goes w/ big dogs collars, it's gotta be a little tighter than that. Scary situation, I'm glad everything is OK. Jackson wears a collar w/ ID tag 24/7 and we've never had an issue.

YT 500 Club Member | I agree that it was probably too loose. Ours wears her collar all the time because I want her to have her tags. My hubby found a dog running down the street a few weeks ago, and because it had ID right on the collar, he was able to get the dog home with no problem to the greatful owners. I also walk mine with a harness, but the ID on the collar can save a dog from going to the Humane Society for a day or two.

| I think it probably is too lose so I may have to wait until she grows a bit. It was on the smallest hole. She was doing fine with it until she started to pull at it with her jaw. I'll just have to keep working with her I suppose. Thanks for all your suggestions! |

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | morgan has an xs coach collar as well and the only way to get it stuck in the mouth is if its too loose. she is 4.5lbs and should be wearing an xxs collar but it works because she doesn't mess with it. those collars don't stretch or give, so there is no other way she'd be able to get it in her mouth. to get her used to a collar i'd get a cat breakaway collar to start off with. make sure you can only get one finger underneath it when its on so she can't get it in her mouth. and make sure you are with her when she has it on.

| I just put the collar on again for a second and she was ok with it. I'm so glad she's not scared of it. I did check and it is loose. I can fit 2 fingers under it on the last hole so I'm hoping she'll grow into at least the last hole. She's 5 lbs right now and almost 6 months old so hopefully she'll be able to wear it eventually. I'm either going to get her a smaller one until she grows into this one or I'm just going to watch her very closely with this one. Thanks again for all your suggestions and comments! I love YT!! |

| I am so glad to hear Sophie is ok. Can DH just make another whole? I keep the tags on their harness but never though about if they run away without the harness on.

| maybe you need to put a 6th hole in it to customize it to fit her properly. I've never used a collar on my dogs only harness when we walk or are out and about. |

| I think a lot of collars I have see are to hard and rough and seem like they would annoy anyone so when I buy Callie a collar I rub the inside seems and make sure its not really thick and would be comfortable to wear all the time. I know there are a lot of really cute collars out there but they just arnt all the comfortable looking but lilpals I think has some decently cute ones with soft seems with the snap closure and thats what Callie wears. She will actually get antsy without her collar on and kind of uneasy. The only time its off is when its drying after I wash it which is normally after her bath and its not on her when shes getting her bath, I left it on a living room end table one time and she brought it to me to put back on her. But when I first got her she would scratch at it and mess with it a lot.

| collar problem My Morkie Belle had the collar problem twice. The first time my DH was home and he got the collar unbuckled. Scared me to death as Belle paniced. The second time I was home alone and I heard Belle making funny noises. I checked her and the collar was in the mouth again only this time the buckle was inside her mouth and she would not let me get at it as she was so scared she was biting. She was having trouble breathing so I grabbed my scissors and cut the collar off. I think both of us were shaking about the same. I don't like not having an ID on her incase she would get out. I am getting her microchipped next week. I bought a cat collar at Walmart that stretches and had a 2nd ID made to keep on that as her other tags are on her harness. She's getting better about a collar but I still don't leave one on her if I'm gone or at night. |
