| Cassi and Ori sleeps on their little bed in the hallway right by our bedroom door. This way, they can make potty trips to the bathroom in the middle of the night if they need to go. Our bedroom door is always open so they can see us and we can see them, but we have the gate up so that they won't go potty on the rug in our bedroom. I would never let them sleep on the bed b/c our bed is really high up and have the biggest fear that they may fall off and injure themselves.

| Genghis sleeps with us. I like to cuddle and snuggle till I fall asleep, then Genghis moves to his place by our feet on his own fuzzy blanket. My Husband will only let clean doggies into the bed as we both have allergies and if we don't wash Genghis and he's been playing outside all day both of us wake up with red itchy eyes. During the day when I'm working Genghis sleeps on my lap or on his own chair with a blanket. He is a GREAT lapdog. |

| All our dogs get to sleep with us and we like it that way. We have never had any aggression or dominance issues and if we had we probably would have made other sleeping arrangements for them. I think it is a personal choice and a common sense decision. |

| This aspect didn't even occur to me at first. My bed is also very tall (I'm 5'4" and have to kinda jump to get on it). When Silvia started sleeping with us again as a puppy, I made sure to put her in between DH and I, at the foot of the bed, and I tucked the sheets into the bottom of the mattress. I have woken up twice in her four and a half years to hear her whining because she was on the floor and wanted back in the bed. I don't know if she fell off or jumped off or what, but that's only happened those two times and she was OK, thank goodness! So, this might also be an issue when deciding if they will sleep with you. If you're worried about jumping off, maybe adding a ramp or some stairs, or pushing something up to the side of the bed might help.

| Molly started sleeping in bed with me about a month after I got her. Her crying finally got to me. Initially I had to pick her up to put her in bed and also put her back down. Now, she's able to jump up and down on her own. She likes to cuddle up against me which I find quite endearing.

I agree, it's not sleeping in the middle that makes them feel dominant, it's sleeping at the highest point of the bed. The alpha dog sleeps at the highest point and has to keep an eye out for all intruders; that's got to be a stressful job! So if a dog wants to sleep above you, I would discourage that, otherwise enjoy.

Whenever I put him there though, he always goes back to the foot of the bed. He usually ends up at the small of my back during the night, but he never tries to get on the pillows. Maybe he's placing himself in the correct pack order. ![]() On the other hand, like most dogs, he considers himself the first line of defense against any potential intruders. He's the one barking in the middle of the night to make sure I know one of my neighbors just opened their door, not the other way around. Actually, now that I think of it, when I nap on the couch, we generally do the same thing, except sometimes he'll go to his dog bed which is next to the couch, but a few inches lower than it... hm!

| My dog sleeps in a crate because that works out best for us. (My husband has to get up super early to travel some times) If you're not having any problems, it's fine with both you and your husband, why is it the vet's business? There is no harm being done, I don't see what his problem is. |

| Oliver sleeps in a large kennel... I would like him to sleep with me, but I tend to toss and turn a lot and know he wouldn't sleep much, and neither would I as I would worry about hurting him. He is still very much like a puppy as well, and gets into everything, so until that stops he will be in his crate. I'm hoping it stops soon so we can try him sleeping with me, he wakes up at 7:30am every morning and freaks out until I let him out of the crate (and then he just wants to play), which is fine when I'm working - but I am on vacation this week and it's sure getting annoying, lol.

| Leo slept with us from Day One but he had several accidents in the bed. I want to avoid that with Lolly by crating her at night but the thought of this makes me want to cry! I want to snuggle her at night!!

| I too have heard not to allow your dog to sleep above you in bed, Winston never has tried that, but he does sleep with us, he starts out between us, snuggled up by me, but then moves to the foot of the bed where he has a nice warm fuzzy blanket, but he likes to sleep sideways and really does take up a lot of space for a small dog. It would be better if we had a larger bed...as a matter of fact, I mentioned that to hubby the other day...it would simply allow us more comfortable space to sleep, and I wouldn't have to hang on for dear life!!!

| Your vet sounds like a cold fish. I love it when my yorkie sleeps with us but most of the time she would rather be in her own bed. |

| Guilty!!! Kayla sleeps between us and on her back. I think sometimes during the nite she gets hot because I always sleep under alot of cover and she will jump down and get in her bed. Then, when my husband goes to work she will get back in bed with me and sleep on his pillow. The little schnauzers sleep in their beds next to ours. Your vet would die if he seen our little bunch and their little beds on both sides of ours, and then Kayla laying up there between us like Miss Aster!!!!! lol! |
