| If you also have a cat... I have a persian cat. I live alone, and she's my only pet so far so she is my baby and very spoiled. I don't think she's going to be too happy when I bring home the puppy and she's not the center of attention anymore. Hopefully she'll learn to love the puppy! I want them to be friends. But anyway, that's not what my question is about. I read that cat food is bad for yorkies. I'm not sure whether they were referring to dry or wet food, but I'm assuming both. So those of you who have both a cat and a yorkie, how do you put your cat food where the cat can get it but not the dog?

| I do timed feedings for everybody in different rooms. Penny eats in her crate, cat #1 eats in the laundry room, and cat #2 eats in the front bedroom. I really feel that timed, separate feedings are the best way to go when you have multiple pets. That way you know exactly how much everybody is eating, you know exactly what formula they are eating, and there's no risk of stress or bullying at the food dish. If that's not an option, you could always put the cat food up on top of the fridge or somewhere that the dog will be unable to access. That won't keep the cat from getting to the dog food though, and that can be a problem as well!

| When my puppy is older I plan to do timed feedings for her. For now the breeder said she needs food out all the time. My cat, though, is used to her dry food being out all day. I'm not sure how to switch her to timed feedings. She's so little already, I don't want to starve her. But I suppose that might be the only way to work it. Is there any danger in my cat eating puppy food? I think putting the cat food up is probably the easiest way. I guess I just need to be on the ball and make sure my cat figured out how to get to it.

| I have two seniors cats, they were the center of our attention and also indoors too, I just let them out in the back, when I got Phoebe (my first yorkie) they were very curiuous about her I keep them separate I will put Phoebe in the playpen and they will watch each other, my hubby always have cut the cats nails so that help my stress a lot, then little by little I introduce them Phoebe and my male cats are best friends they will play and play my female cat is a Diva she only like hubby and I and somentimes Esquiseck (the male cat) she tolerate Phoebe but she will run from her sometimes now that I have they get along just fine Melody and Shayna learn from Phoebe

| I have a section of counter space in my kitchen that's seperate from everything else so I put the cats food and water up there. I also do timed feedings. I used to put it on a bookshelf until my bigger dog jumped up to get it and pulled the bookshelf down but I don't think your dear yorkie could do that

| I've always placed the cat bowl on higher ground because my late shihtzu gets pretty sneaky when it comes to food of any kind. I just had to make sure it was either on a shelf or table where there are no chairs or "boosters" of any kind nearby that she can use as a lift to get to the kitty bowl. Now, you might want to think about how you're going to feed your new yorkie when the cat might want some of the dog's food. |

| It really wouldn't be acutely dangerous for her in the same way that cat food can be dangerous to a dog (pancreatitis can be life-threatening, and sometimes overindulgence in cat food can trigger that!), but in the long run, if she decides she likes the dog food better than her own food and she's munching on it regularly, it wouldn't be good for her. The protein and fat levels in dog food are lower than what a cat usually needs. Weight gain would be another concern if she decides to "supplement" her kitty food with the dog food too often...

| I have two cats and I keep their food in our laundry room and Silvia's food in her crate. We keep a little partition in the doorway of the laundry room, so Silvia can't eat the cat food. We found that out the hard way though, because she kept throwing up and we couldn't figure out why until she threw up dry cat food one day! Now, the other way around, I can't find a solution for. We keep Silvia's crate door open for her because her food and litter box are in there, and the stupid cats eat her food and throw up sometimes. Any suggestions on that? LOL

| I just keep Tigger's food on a small end table . The Yorkies don't bother at all with it and Tigger never bothers with their food . By the way , my cat is 22 lbs and the dogs are the boss of the house even though Tig was here before any of them were ! LOL ! Good luck !
