Therapy Dog Donating Member | Just love and enjoy your beautiful little girl and don't worry about papers. Really..papers only good for breeding. All that matters is that you love her (and I can tell by your post!) and be her mommy. I don't normally say too much on threads but she is only asking for our help so let's be nice, OK???

| I don't know a whole lot about the papers either, but if the name in red reads CH Tea Times Oro De Le Chaz our puppies are distantly related because that name is also on my puppies papers. |

I disagree with your statement, "Far too many canines are AKC and pure mutts. It use to have an impact." The AKC is the only registry that, I believe, does have impact. They are also the only registry that does routine unannounced kennel inspections and DNA testing. However there are lots of other registries out there called "paper registries" and have no real rules on what's allowed to be registered. Many people are led to believe that because they have a "registered" dog it must be more valuable, but unless the dog is AKC, you really can't be too sure of it's bloodlines. The AKC is very strict on record keeping and breeders are suspended for "fudging" on this, so many of these "alternative" registries have popped up. This however, makes no difference in the dogs themselves, only in which breeders you are choosing to support. The amount of love you have for your dog should have nothing to do with "papers".

| Ill look in her folder when I can get access to the safe and see what all is in there. Her check-up is tomorrow so I can rest easy from there. As long as she is healthy and happy - Im good. I lack any and all ego so I dont have anything to prove. AKC or otherwise as long as she is a healthy girl! And I suppose if I did - I wouldnt do it via dog! Like one poster said - only looking to learn. I asssure you - no dog - AKC or otherwise is any better than my baby girl or any other animals. So - Dont disappoint me now! Lets step off the soap boxes! I have been nothing but kind. Thanks Y'all! Last edited by Nature; 07-24-2008 at 10:46 AM. |

| But if I were you I wouldn't get any more pups with this background. Be happy with your pup, but please, try to inform people so they wouldn't make the same mistake - after all, do you want to give your money to puppymillers? |

The problem with puppy mill puppies is that no genetic screening or health testing is done before breeding since it is a for profit business only. Mill dogs can carry "genetic time bombs" that may not go off for years. I am not trying to scare you, just trying to make you aware that you really can't "rest easy" after her checkup. With any dog it's a good idea to have an account set up for unexpected vet bills; with a puppy from a mill or backyard breeder, it's a must. Her humble background won't effect how much you love her, though. My Lady is a rescue and also poorly bred. Her vet bills and medications run about $5,000 a year now, but I couldn't love her any more if she were from a top show breeder. | |

I see you are new to YorkieTalk, and I haven't welcomed you and your little girl yet, so Welcome to Yorkietalk, and I hope her check-up goes great.

| I saved a puppy from a sick puppy mill - I havent made a mistake. Getting one from a plush breeder isnt much of a scarifice - IF AKC is as important as it seems to some. I will forfeit the certificate to get a pup out of that - absolutely. I would rather save a puppy from a puppy mill anyday - because they are going to be there whether I buy one or not - than to buy one from a plush breeder that is ensured a home even if they dont sale. Now - I feel even closer to her. I feel as if I 'rescued' the poor thing. She was born regardless - I was blessed to have met her and given her a great home. Without the condition of having an AKC certificate. Sure that makes sense. Its satisfying - moreso than a certificate. |
