| can yorkies play with big dogs there are two hugh pitbulls across the street. lucky is so scared of them but the owner says his boys are very loving and encourages them to be friends. they have a yorkie in their building who gets along great with his pitbulls but the yorkie is 9 years old and weights about 10 pounds so he's the senior of the neighborhood. compared to my boy who is 4 months and 5.6 pounds.......when lucky is in the backyard the big one comes to the gate and just stares at lucky and sniffs him through the gate. when i take him for his walk and the pitbull comes up to him i can tell hes scared because when the dogs stiffs him lucky is very still. i can almost hear him praying to the puppy god. "lord please dont let him eat me, i want to have an afternoon snack not be one". is it ok for him to be around such big dogs that are not mine. |

We have a chocolate lab that my yorkie plays with they get along great. I'm not sure about pit bulls I guess is just because of their bad rep. | |

| I have a big dog as well as a yorkie. They love each other and are best friends. They play all the time, and Dozer realizes that Bailey is like 130lbs smaller than he is and he's gentle with him.... Here's a picture of the 2 of them playing So yes, yorkies can play with big dogs.... As far as neighbors dogs, I don't have any neighbors that own dogs, but if I did, sure, I'd let them play. ONLY while supervised and ONLY if they weren't scared of each other |

| Playing with Pitbulls ??? OMG, NO WAY !!!! I take my yorkies everywhere I go and when I visit my sister that has three of these dogs, They don't GO !!! One bite that is all it will take, just one. I would never take that chance. I don't care how friendly they are, they are still animals with instincts. Just my opinion.

| thanks for the info. i wouldnt want to put my pup in any danger. i love him to much but other than the yorkie across the street who just came from japan. hes the talk of the neighborhood. when i take him outside to play in the yard its like all the dogs and kids know he's outside.hes like a magnet i tell ya...... i dont want the neighbors to think that i think my dog is to good to play with theirs. he doesnt seem to be scared of anysize dog he barks at all of them. however right now im afraid to let him play with dogs too big. am i being to over protective of my boy?????i've only had him 2 months. so i guess you can says im in training too. cocoa in los angeles |

| toby is afraid of dogs (both small and large) that he does not know....... if he knkows the dogs then he LOVES to play, he plays with my brother HUGE lab and my moms big dogs too oh, and being afraid of dogs he doesnt know is not due to lack of socialization, i dont know why he does it, but he has been to dog parks and such since he was 12 weeks old and has ALWAYS been this way (i guess he is just a big mamas boy........lol........ fine by me) |

| This is Bella with her big brother Plato. They live together, sleep together, play together. She LOVES him. She actually prefers playing with bigger dogs. Of course, I'm extra careful when she's around bigger dogs, I only let her play with big dogs that we know around the neighborhood and stuff and they are both on leash. But I think a yorkie and a bigger dog can build a relationship and learn to play together.

| I have a boxer as well as my yorkie and they play really well together. My boxer knows how to be gentle around Daisy. I am though very careful with my yorkie with other dogs of all sizes that we do not know, better to be safe than sorry. |

| My Recon is about 88 pounds and plays wonderfully with the little dogs. I also have a pit that lives next door to me that LOVES my yorkie. Some one here on this post made a comment about not letting your dog play with pits. If the dog is socialized with small dogs such as a yorkie then by all means let the kids play. This goes for any breed. Heck Preslee has pit bull friends, doberman friends, rottweiler friends and so on. Here is a pick of Preslees pit bull buddy, Ray Ray. She is a wonderful dog. I love her to pieces. Isn't she pretty?? |

| Shes 100% pit bull. The neighbors have a 5 week old new born baby and she is soooooo in love with that baby. If she barks and you say SHHH the baby is sleeping she will stop. Or if the baby cries she will get your attention. And to think . Shes a pit. Its all in how these dogs are raised. Honestly it is. |

| I went through the same thing. With my situation it was a friends rottweiler that apparently never harmed anything. Although my gut told me NO I was talked into putting him down so she could smell him. Well, seconds later I was on the floor with her trying to get him out of her mouth. I won. But now I am terrified of bigger dogs around Frankie. I say Dont do it. Listen to your gut. It's not worth it. If your dog is scared, maybe it's Listen to his gut.

| I will thnik that it is ok if is your dog, but I will be very careful about other people dogs. I think is be best to be safe than sorry. Gucci so far doesnt like to play with other dogs, she gets so scared. We visit my hubby's cousin nd they own a pit bull and a rottie. The pit bull is very docil but the rottie isn't. Since I knew the pit bull I let Gucci loose to see how she will react around a bigger dog(the pit bull not the rottie). Gucci was hiding under my seat the whole time or wanted me to carry her. I will say if you dont feel confortable with the dogs dont let your dog play with them. |

| I agree with Marie 100%. If you feel at odds (which is what I felt but didn't go with) don't. All it takes is one bite. Just 2 weeks ago Frankie's uncle (a 14 pound yorkie) was attacked by a neighbors pit. Apparently these dogs even knew eachother. It took one bite and the dog was gone. The owner of Max is having a real hard time.
