Banning Thread Dictator Donating Member | ![]() I'd err on the side of being safe. I've heard people say that their pit bulls and rotties are gentle, but I've heard a lot of horror stories too where the owners swore their dogs were gentle and a tragedy happened. Unless you know the dog well, I wouldn't take any chances. Here's one big dog I trusted around Eddie, but I supervised them real closely.

| ![]() Babyparis- It looks like your brother's pit is, um, showing off a bit! LOL! One of Olivia's best friends is a 200 lb. English Mastiff. I have to watch when he's up and walking because he could step on her. When he's laying down, Olivia lays against him, plays tug-o-war, and runs around him pawing at his face to play. He is a gentile giant and very calm. I would be very cautious of any situation like this. Make sure that it's a neighbor you know well and dogs you completely trust. How do the dogs act around you? Maybe you could hold Lucky while the dogs get to know each other better. I love pit bulls myself. However, if I'm correct, don't their jaws lock? If they get ahold of Lucky, they're in control. I think you should make sure that you feel completely comfortable around them before you let them become friends with Lucky. There are some awful people that have owned pits over the years and given them a bad rap so I would hate to judge the breed on that. I knew a beautiful pit that was the biggest baby in the world, so it really depends on the dogs. Don't feel like you have to let them be friend until you feel Lucky is 100% safe around them. Follow your gut. |

| ![]() to be honest I let Maximus play with anyone that he wants as long as a. I have asked the owner if he/she is friendly andb. Maximus tries to make a beeline for them.....Maximus will try to say hi to EVERYONE...and when he tends to be quiet and pass up a dog, I figure there is some reason that I don't know...like animal instinct??? Anyways this morning I was walking Maximus and there is a man walking his doberman without a leash...mind you I have seen him before (never with Maximus) and the dog is very well behaved so Maximus is in his harness and leash and I notice him..but no big deal right??and we are walking on the other side of the street...well all of a sudden Maximus tenses up and tilts his head so I look and this dog is like stalking us..this is the best way I can think to describe him slowly walking up on us...so I pick Maximus up and the owner is now trying to calmly walk after his dog telling him to heel...well the dog is not listening, and so Maximus starts barking (way to make a situation worse..huh??)..so I am telling him "Shh...Maximus quiet"...this dog was about 10 steps away from me when the owner finally got him to heel....he then proeded to tell me that his dog is very friendly and he NVERE does that...yeah well I saw the look in that dogs eyes and I don't know who he wanted to eat more Maximus and I....so i told him maybe a leash isn't such a bad idea from now on..and turned around with Maximus...lol..the little brat decided that he would start barking at the back the man and the dog once they were fair away enough that he felt safe...lol!! Anyways the whole point is follow your dogs instincts...they will come out of their shell eventually if it's meant to be!!

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | ![]() I think if they grow up together - big dogs and yorkies could be ok - but I would NEVER ever let my girls around anyones pitt - no offence to pitt bull parents - but I just would NOT do it. I'd rather stay clear and take NO chances then try to be 'nice' and see if they could be friends - When I see big dogs EVEN in Petsmart - I hold the girls - I know how fast a tragedy can happen after seeing it happen as a kid - I was on my bike and a little poodle got attacked right in front of me - We tried to save it but a big dog came out of NOWHERE and clamped down on it - I was devestated for a long time afterwards. Nope - NO big dogs around my yorkies...just their sister Tessa - a cocker spaniel. |

| ![]() Skippy doesn't care who he plays with. I have a pit, 2 boxers, and a poodle and he loves them all, and they all love him even though he bites their legs to pieces. |

| ![]() I'm one of these people who believe that most people with yorkies and other small dogs can make their dogs frightened of everything and every dog by being frightened themselves and picking them up every time they see a dog coming. You can tell by their ears and tail set if you may have trouble BUTwith a pit bull I might just change my tune. There are certain breeds and not too many of them, that when they bite, it LOCKS and if you were to try to get your dog loose, you could not. I wouldn't take any chances. My Crystal loves all dogs and plays with a couple big ones every day (they are not pit bulls)

| ![]() your right. i guess i didn't think to follow his instincts because he's a puppy. i think i'll let him sniff lucky from the other side of the gate. glad to hear Maximus is ok Ü. he's so cute. good thing to tell that man to use a leash next time. there's a man who walks his dog down my street every morning and lets his dog crap and just walks away!!!!! i burns me up, "why dont you pick up your dogs crap"? is what i want to say, but there's some crazy people in this world so you have to be careful. theres even signs on the trees "plz pick up after your dog to keep our street clean. maybe he cant read Ü |

Donating YT 7000 Club Member | ![]() i say you get to know the pit first, if he seems friendly then by all means yes!! its supprising but most big dogs can tell the difference between a small dog and a big one. like my dog rusty, he rough houses with the big ones, but he's gentle with tucker.

| ![]() We have a 125 lb gSD, Mignon uses him as a stepping stool for everything.to get on the couch ,the bed, etc. She takes naps on him and buries her cookies on his body. I trust him with everybody but I KNOW him. I apologise to the pitbull lovers but Iwouldn't trust them with a small dog. ESPECIALLY if they weren't raised with them. Here is a pic of Mignon with her big brother ![]() |

| ![]() PinkMartini is right, thier jaws do not lock. Being careful and cautious goes without saying but I am a very strong believer of socializing your dogs with all breeds and sizes. Because I have socialized all 3 of my dogs they get along with everyone. I am more cautious with my little ones around big dogs of all breeds. But just because its a pit doesn't mean that it is going to be more aggresive. For instance a few weeks ago at work I groomed a families 2 pit bulls without issues, put them away and groomed a golden retriever and he chewed the hell out of my arm. NOw I have to have surgery and am out of work for at least another month. And this isnt the first mean golden that I have dealt with. Just some food for thought. |

| ![]() I have two BIG Golden Retrievers and Daisy is always around them. I do not keep them separated. They play tug of war and Daisy gladly brings them her toys. The big dogs seem to sense the she is so small....and besides...she IS the boss!! LOL |
