| ![]() They pick her up without asking!!! OMG! That is RUDE! I would be pretty PO'd by that. I've had people come up and pet Mia without asking... but thats it. I don't get too offended, usually because Mia doesn't like stragers and she'll back herself into me to try and get away (we're working on it). But for the most part people will ask before touching her. A man came up to me over the weekend to pet Mia and his wife yelled at him "you have to ask first dear!". Ha! When people ask if they can hold her, I politely tell them "sorry, she is shy around new people and freaks out when strangers hold her". I've actually had a friend drop her because she wiggled so frantically to get away. After that, no stangers hold her, and if a friend of mine is meeting her for the first time and asks to hold her, I have them sit on the ground!

| ![]() Never! No strangers hold her. They might take off running with her. It's happened before to other people. ![]()

![]() If they look at you funny or say anything about rude - just reply " you started it when you reached for my posession " and walk away - It won't stop the next jerk from doing the same thing but i would never allow a stranger to take one of my babies out of my arms - i am a old greatgrandmother but let me tell you that reaching for one of my kids and you are starting world war 3- Stand up girl and tell people in a nice but firm way that its not a pass around toy !!!!

| ![]() I see this type of thread soooo often, i do wonder where everyone lives. I am in MA/NH and noone here would EVER pick up my dogs! haha Ive had people come over and ask questions and pet them and Ive done it to other people's dogs. My boys BEG to be pet, no person could resist when they are stumbling all over each other to get to the person who is looking at them! haha ![]() The best way to avoid, is not take them out. Otherwise you'll just have to say something like "You can pet, but please don't pick her up." or "She bites" that should keep people away! LOL Or you could carry her in a carrier! Some people have no manners. Sorry its uncomfortable for you! I know when I take my boys out they are going to get attention, its inevitable. I leave them home when I don't want the attention, and I take them when I don't mind it. ![]()

took the words right outta my mouth... i would tell people "shes snappy and might bite" period a little lie just might save your dog from being dropped or something else really serious. personally, id rather lie than see a stranger hurt my dog on accident.. ![]() | |

| ![]() Thanks for all the responses!!! I found it funny that everyone mentioned kids doing this but in both cases it was full grown adult men and women who pick up Abbey and smothered her. The first was when I first got her and she was only a few wweeks old and about 1.5 pounds. Some lady grabbed her I was shocked, in disbelief, I didn't know if she was going to steal her. Ugh, but that was in El Paso (and sorry to offend anyone from there) but in general, people are REALLY rude there. Also...A lot of you said your dogs shy away from strangers well Abbey is the complete opposite, she LOVES new people. When she sees someone new she wiggles and run to them and even pees out of excitement! For a stranger!! Like when I took her to the vet the other day, it was a new vet and when we walked in she saw the people in there and went nuts, squirming and "smiling." I don't know if this is a good or bad thing. I'm just going to be firm with people from now on bc even though she is cute, I want to be able to take her places without getting swarmed. I just try not to look at people. Thanks for the advice!!

| ![]() I have a little one, 3lbs, very pick-upable!...I met a middle aged lady when out walking Pixie a few months back...Pixie was bobbing up and down on the end of her leash as they do when they greet someone...and this lady stooped down to pet her...well, the next thing i knew she had got her whole hand under her body and lifted her up! happened so fast i didn't have time to stop it...she must have sensed i wasn't too happy with it and said:- 'oh it's ok i'm used to dogs'! like it was alright! sooooo cheeky! ![]() ![]()

| ![]() I can't stand when people touch my dogs! I don't know where their grubby hands have been and I don't them on my babies. I guess I could be nice about it, but I'm not. If I know we are going to be in a situation where there is a lot of people, I put them in their stroller so the general public can't get to them. If we are on a walk and someone approaches, I tell them that they bite. I know, I'm a nut. Oh well. LOL. |

YT 2000 Club Member | ![]() Well, when I'm out and about with Maggy May and someone comes up and wants to hold her, I say, well here, let me put her down, I'd rather you just see her down there, she's a wild woman and will jump right out of your arms and hurt herself. They don't seem to mind me saying that at all, their just so caught up in the kisses their getting that they're just as happy to bend down and see her on the ground. Maybe that could work for you?
