Dont Touch My Dog! OK all, I have a question... When I take Abbey out, every where I go, people HAVE to come up and oooh ahh and pet her and even pick her up without even asking me. Like, recently, I went to the park and she was on her leash and some lady just picked her up and was holding her and I was like  Also, last week at Petsmart I was holding her in my arms and some lady just came and took her out of my arms...I'm not kidding. Now it's not always that bad and I used to like all the attention of having a cute dog but now it's annoying and I don't want people to touch her OR pick her up, I just don't. I'm sure many of you have had this same experience, as we all have such adorable babies, so I want to know...how do you tell people to quit touching your dog?!? I need a polite way of saying "Don't touch my #$@@*^@ dog!!!!" |
I don't mind petting but not the picking up. I tell people please don't pick her up. That is that. Small kids though are drawn to Zoey like a moth to a flame and I feel bad but I worry most about them dropping her. |
Wish I could help but when they get that rude, I couldn't be so nice. |

how about.....Excuse me??? and take your dog back.. good luck |
Tell them she bites :p Kidding. been there. i find it scary because there are crazy people in the world who will walk off with your dog. I tell them that she is timid and doesn't like to be held by strangers but it would make her day if you petted her. |
I always say "please do not pick them up, they get very squirmy when they get excited and would get seriously hurt if dropped. But you are more than welcome to pet them". I DO NOT allow anyone to pick up my dogs. Period.... |

adults dont ask me, well look at her size, but little kids do and i just say no, shes too heavy.. and they ask can i pet her, and i say if you can catch her you can. if a child goes to pet her, she runs away...so they never get a chance to touch her.. i crack up |
I wouldn't be nice about it at all. I wouldn't go up to someone's infant & pick them up, You just don't go grabbing at anything you want. None has tryed to pick up my boy's Believe me they would get an ear full. |
hmmm... i can't help with what to say because i'm to chicken to say anything! lol. i've had a couple of strangers pick Kash up without asking, and although i should have said something, i just watched very intently and positioned myself very close to them, so i could catch him if he fell... so far though, no one has dropped him. i know, i know...i need to grow a pair, LOL! |
I usually will either pick Ozzy up before they can try and if they are creepy looking I might say he bites :p If some one tried to take him out of my arms they would have to pry him out of my cold dead hands first  |
Children are definitely attracted to small dogs. I try to make a learning experience out of it. Tell them that they have to first ask, then approach slowly with their open hand up, let the furbaby smell them a bit, and then slowly scratch behind the ears. Parent's do NOT teach their children how to deal with dogs. Makes too much of a chance for a bite. |

I would just say she doesnt like to be touched and leave it at that..they can say ...Oh how cute, etc but if I didnt want someone to touch my dog I would just say that and definately no one can hold my dog..nope.. The older I get the easier it is to say no.. |

Don't count on it. I had a little boy run up to our 120lb Ivan and throw his arms around his neck and shout "Doggie!" Thank God it was the gentle giant instead of someone's huge not so nice dog! As far as someone picking up one of my little ones? Forget it. I have had my fill of that and won't allow it. I just tell people that they get excited and pee on people. Nobody wants to hold them after that! LOL |
