| Location of Sleeping Quarters My bedroom is on the second floor but I am planning to keep the xpen and all foods and materials on the first floor in the kitchen. I would like for wookie to sleep near me but then i wonder if we wake up early, do i just pick him up and rush him to the designated bathroom area downstairs? wouldnt this confuse him, and if this would confuse him, should i just leave him to sleep by himself (and Freddy our cockatiel) downstairs in the kitchen? |

I think you would absolutely take him to his potty area first thing in the morning. It shouldn't confuse him anymore than rushing a dog outside first thing in the morning. Hope this helps!

| Hot Rod's expen is in our family room on the 1st floor. Our bedroom is upstairs. He has always stayed down there. If you are worried about him, you can get a baby monitor. That's what I did and I could hear him whenever he started to stir around.

| I would wait, too, until he is old enough to hold his piddle. I was so paranoid when I did allow mine to sleep with me, that I would set a loud timer to get me up in 4 hrs. Never had an accident, though. It's hard to not have them cuddling in bed with you. I love the cuddling!!! Actually, even when I had mine in an ex-pen I had a timer wake me up to take them piddle until they were able to hold it. I think it is 1 hr. per month they are old. That is is how long to reasonably expect them to hold it.

| Bella slept in her crate right next to my bed until I was confident we didn't need to worry about accidents. My husband gets up pretty early (around 4:00am) so after he showers and is dressed they all head downstairs and he lets them outside then and they eat. He then brings them back upstairs to me when he leaves for work. Now that Bella is completely potty trained she sleeps either in our bed or in her bed on the floor depending on her mood but the routine is the same. They can hold it quite a while once they're older (Bella is almost 15 months old) and even this weekend camping she would hold it for 8 hours or more during the night, I'd take her out to do her thing and she'd still have to walk a while and sniff before she'd relieve herself.

| my baby sleeps in a crate next to the head of my bed, but i have an alarm that goes off in the middle of the night so I can take her potty. If i'm super tired, i leave her in an xpen with a baby moniter for the night...

| sorry maybe i was not clear lol, i would have a crate in my room for him; he would not be sleeping with me in bed, but next to the bed in his crate. so i was wondering between these two situations: 1. Daytime: stay in xpen on first floor with a crate, etc ,etc Night: sleep in my room on second floor in another carrier/crate next to my bed to be close to me or 2. Daytime & Night: stay in xpen on first floor during daytime and sleep there at night my only concern with situation 1 is if he wants to go potty first thing in the morning, would it be too much confusion if i carry him all the way downstairs or should i try to "lead" him to the potty place downstairs: that would be going down a flight of stairs and etc. just dont want to confuse the poor fella |

| London sleeps in a crate beside our bed and is taken crate and all to the potty pad then let out. It doesn't confuse her and she always goes on the pad when she is out.

| How old is your pup? If you want to have him sleep with you, you have to consider that he may not get a sound night sleep if you tend to be active while sleeping. And if so, each time he wakes from a sleep, he may have the urge to go potty and if he's too young, he may not have figured out he has to tell you so. It's best to have him sleep wherever he can readily find his potty pad (if you are wanting to even still use that method of training) until he's got it down pat and is a little older. Then you can have him sleep in bed with you, once he's sleeping through the night on his own. A baby monitor is always a great idea if you're wanting to actually wake up when he does in an attempt to take him outside rather than use the potty pads. He'll learn that making a noise elicits a responce from you to go outside to potty and will begin to ask to go, rather than just going. |

| I will be getting him at the end of june, when he is a lil older than 12 weeks. Just wanted to do my homework before he arrives ^^ im all for a smooth transition! i would not want him in my bed yet; not until he is potty trained. just curious about your thoughts on the above mentioned situations; if there are pros and cons to each. Thank you so much! i love this site! |

| ....I just read your post right above mine, only after having posted mine, so here I am trying to edit it, but too much time had lapsed. Having your pup sleep in a crate at the head of your bed is a good idea and it's what I do with mine. And rather than taking your puppy downstairs, be it leading them on a leash or carrying them, I would take that pup outside to their potty place rather than the pads inside. Skip that step entirely. Either way, he won't be confused by sleeping upstairs and then having to go downstairs to potty. I would carry him if he's real young, because he might not be able to hold it the time it takes to get downstairs and to that spot, I dunno how large your home is. |

| baby gurl has slept with us in the bed since she was about 4 1/2 months old.. saw her pommie brother Bugsy in bed with us and decided THAT was the place to be!! When we first got her @ 3 months old til she began sleeping with us, she slept in a baby gate area next to the bed, and about 6am her baby daddy would put her in bed with us for the last hour of snooze time... ....there is something soooo nice about the whole family going nighty night together ...and you can bet when the new fuzzy kid comes next month...then there will be ALL of us in our (thankfully!) king size snuggle bed!! |

| I don't think it would cause too much confusion to bring him downstairs and to his potty spot. Callie's kennel is in our room, which we have a ranch, but our room is in the back of the house and Callie goes potty outside. So for middle of the night/early morning potty needs, I always carry her outside. She is always so slow right after she wakes up anyways it would take her 10 minutes just to walk her little buns outside, lol. She is only 18 weeks, but it has been working well for her, and not caused confusion from what I can tell. Hope this helps!
