| Yorkie and Large Breed Dog??? Does anyone have yorkies and a large breed dog? I was wondering because my sister is bringing home the sweetest great dane puppy at the end of the month and I was wondering does anyone have any suggestions, comments, or stories as what I may expect from my yorkie. My yorkie is 2 years old and is very stubborn and a bit dominant. I have heard after introducing them that we may have to keep them seperated until they can get used to each other coexisting. I feel as though my yorkie may provoke him a bit because he is EXTREMELY hyper. I also heard that large breed dogs, particularly great danes do very well with small dogs. Was curious to know what everybody thought. Any suggestions would also be great!! Thanks.

| Hi. The thing I would be concerned about for one is the size difference. Even if they are both sweet together, just simple playing could hurt your yorkie. The other issue is that if your Yorkie is alpha like you say, then he may go after the Dane and how much do you think the Dane will take until he snaps back? I read on here a month or so back about a lab snapping and grabbing the Yorkie. Even a love bite can do some serious damage. I know that others may not agree with me, but I honestly do not think that larger breed dogs and little breeds mix well. There are exceptions to the rule, but is it something you want to test and take a chance with? That's really something you have to ask yourself. Good luck. Elaine |

| I've told this story before but I think you will like what I have to say. My shih tzu was two when we brought Ivan home. At 3 months he weighted three times more than she did but Cassie was the leader of the pack from the get go. Since he was a puppy he was used to an adult dog bossing him around I guess but Cassie still wears the pants in the family at a delicate 12lbs while Ivan is 120lbs. Just be prepared for the dane to get bit a few times. He will need it if he is going to learn to respect your yorkie. |

| I just remembered something. LOL Ivan was teasing Cassie one day and Cassie was in a bad mood and just wanted to be left alone. She finally grabbed hold of his lip and wouldn't let go. Ivan carried her all the way across the room yelping all the way. She didn't do any damage but he stopped messing with her. I think the only thing you really have to worry about is those big feet! Your yorkie will have to learn to avoid them. |

| I plan to provide extra supervision while they are playing together because the puppy may not be aware of his own strength at first. He is only 7 weeks old and weighs more than my yorkie!! I heard that bringing in a low-energy dog with a high energy dog that it should work with the proper training. I'm a little nervous because my yorkie has some awful habits that I have been trying to break. I don't want my yorkie to be a bad influence and ruin my sister's chance of having a "balanced dog". We are working together on bringing this fur kid into our family but I absolutely don't want a disaster on my part.

| Unfortunately they do learn from each other so you may have a problem there. On the better side of that is that they can teach each other good things too. |

| most definitely hope that they can learn some new things together. I'm going to have to change several things that are unacceptable that my yorkie does so that the new baby won't be influenced. wish me luck!!

| I have 2 labs, they are older then my Yorkie's though. One of them wants nothing to do with the little ones and runs away fast when she see's they are running around. She never did well with my other lab until she was bigger so I don't think she will ever be around the little ones. I keep them separated when i'm not right there. The yorkie girls have an ex-pen so they are in there overnight and contained to the kitchen when I can't really be watching them. My younger lab loves playing with them and is very gentle and tolerant of being bitten and played on. She actually seems to really enjoy it, her play with them is very very different then her play with the other lab. I did have an eye opener last summer though when in the backyard so I am even more careful now. I had Bella teethered to my belt loop and she was running and playing with the big dogs. I grabbed an indoor toy that Willow had outside and shouldn't have and when I did she jumped in the air to get it and landed on Bella. I won't get into detail but I'm very very lucky she is alive, and it was very much an accident.

| I have a 2 pound Yorkie and a 178 pound Great Dane. Riley and Cordell are fine together. Only problem I see is when the boys are outside playing and Riley gets the "zoomies", we have to get Cordy up and outta the way! LOL! I would say to just watch and be aware... Great Danes are FANTASTIC dogs! and our Ri has been a blessing to our family for quite a few years now!

| I have a 95 lb. lab who lives in my home and has NO IDEA she is a big dog.... She was olde when I got Hope and Tootie and never once acted poorly with them. She is a very gentle dog and loves to love on the "babies"... it all has to do with the temperment of the big dog... my friend has a lab who I would not let NEAR Hope, she is wild and crazy and would trample her in a second.... my lab is a very gentle giant.. d

| I have a yorkie and a golden and they get along really well so far. My golden is super gentle with her, however I dont let my new baby roam all over the floor when the big dogs are out.

| The only thing I would worry about is the unexpected accidents. I would love to have a German Shepherd, but I worry about accidents. I know I'm a worry wart. I wish you the very best. Post pictures of the new pup.

| I have a 5 lb Yorkie and a 69 lb lab/pit mix. They get along fine. TJ enjoys doing quiet things with Stanford, like sleeping or grooming. They share the couch and seem to enjoy each others company. I keep Stannie on my lap when TJ is ball chasing or running about the yard, however.

| I have a boxer and a golden along with my yorkie Luke. They all love each other, though Luke is most definetly the boss of things! My sister has a two great danes and a 3 lb Chiauaua and they adore each other. The little one sleeps on top of their backs, it's darling to see. |
