Awwww Lauren I remember how scared I was when Teddi got fixed. Just make sure they give you some pain pills. They didn't give me anything and Teddi cried on the way home so I called and went back and got her some pills. I gave her one (which was 1/4 of a pill - they cut them for me) and she fell right to sleep and was completely back to herself by the next morning. I never gave her any more. They also made a little shirt for her from a little stretchy material that was like a sock. I kept that on for a few days and then took it off. She never licked her stitches or anything. I'm SO GLAD I never had to put the big plastic hat on her!!! I'm sure Mango will be just fine. It's just sad the first night because they look so helpless but they bounce back so quickly!!! Hugs and kisses from me and Teddi!

Oh...... you all have no idea what your responses mean to me. Thank you so much!!! I just had a conversation with another Yorkie Mom (thanks Brooke), who also gave me great advice. But, if y'all remember, Mango is known as the "demented" one.... she is still doing puppy-style zoomies at 16 months, and I really worry she will hurt herself. Yesterday I tried to put a onesie(baby grow for Sheilagh) on her, and she became like a teeny bucking bronco trying to literally jump out of it. Anyone on YT who has met Mango at our meetups cannot help but notice what a "wild thang" my little girl is. Now normally, this is a source of hilarity and sheer delight for us, to watch those little antics of hers, but now I am just afraid she will hurt herself. I know for sure that the collar or onesie she will fight like mad.
I will stay home with her, watch her like a hawk the next few days, but I am worried about tonight.... don't think much sleep will be in the picture for me.

Ronda, after the frightening experience you had with Teddi's liver shunt, I feel like a complete "ninny",so I apologize for that.
Thank you all again. What amazing people you are. I just knew this is where I would find support.

Big hugs to you all,
Lauren

Try "Remedy Relief"... My vet suggested it because I didn't want to give Roxi Valum.. It's all natural, and you can get it at any vitamin store.. A couple drops under the tongue and it calms them down dramatically.. Roxi is totally berserk all the time and that really worried me after surgery... It worked beautifully, I highly recommend!!
BTW, I live in Belmont shore, I don't know what part of OC your in but we would love to come to one of your meets!!! ( I know how rude, inviting myself huh??!! )

The Remedy Relief sounds like a great idea. Thanks for that! I will ask my Vet about it later, when I pick her up.
Oh, and you would be totally welcome at any of our meetups. The way you describe Roxi, sounds like her and Mango would get along just great. Mango seems to have forgotten to become an "adult" completely, and is in a perpetual state of demented puppyhood. I just love it.
Thanks,
Lauren

I just had to say how completely adorable that picture is...... that pooped out little baby lying there, with the very concerned Betty trying to give her healing Yorkie kisses through the bars. Just toooo precious. I think my Granny Spanky will be wondering what's happened to Mango, who normally bugs the hell out of her. My old girl is so gentle, so sweet, I can just see her hovering over Mango the same way.
Argh! I just can't wait to have my baby home safe with me, so that I can cuddle her, hold her, make her feel that it's all going to be OK again. She must be so scared and confused right now.
Thank you again for that adorable picture,
Lauren

I spoke to the Vet a while ago. She is still very groggy, but came through the surgery just fine. The only thing I am wondering about is food. She has not eaten since last night, and he said she should have nothing for the rest of the day. This really concerns me, so I think I will ask him about some nutrical. I cannot imagine my poor baby not having ANY food until tomorrow morning??!!??

What do y'all think? Have you fed them on the same day as the surgery? What is the usual rule of thumb here? I do not want to risk her vomiting, because Mango is a "vomiter" as it is. She is even prone to throwing up on a long car ride, which thankfully is not the case for today, as the vet is just up the road.

When Kiki was spayed last year, I remember the vet telling us to go easy with the food as they could still be very nauseous from the anesthesia. I put down a few pieces of dry food for her and she ate every one. I knew she was starving. So I probably gave her a quarter of the amount that she normally would eat and she was fine. The next day she ate her normal amount of food.

Prayers for a speedy recovery.

Anna

Hi, I'm so glad she came through the surgery good. I understand your concern about the food. When Trixie was spayed she spent the night and was given no food. I was terrified about this but she was ok. I kind of assume they gave her nutrical. Now when Pia was spayed she came home the same day and ended up very sick and spent almost 2 weeks going back and forth to a new vet and the ER to be watched over night. It's a long story and absolutely the vet's fault. Now after the nightmare I went through with Pia I refused to allow Paisley to spend the night. No'one would be there and I couldn't deal with that.

She came home that evening and never ate. My vet told me not to force food. I did give nutrical and the next few days she was sick and had no appetite. However, she was nothing like the way Pia was. I ended up giving her a little bit of baby food here and there but never alot. Her belly was so upset and too much would have caused her to vomit. I would ask your vet what they suggest you do. I hope she comes home and acts like my Trixie did. You never would have known Trixie had surgery. She wanted to play as soon as she got back. Hugs to you and Mango.

Here is a pic of my Roxi....
Mango chilling out..... that is a concept I think quite foreign to my zooming little girl. We shall see in the next few days. I just can't have her trying to be her usual, naughty little self. That natural remedy is sounding like a great idea.
I can't wait to meet you and Roxi. That little face...... to look at her, all innocence, especially in the second shot........ it's like "Mama...... who me...naughty? Nuh-uhhh....?" Do you pick her up and smoosh her as often as I do my babies??? Poor things get a smooshing 20 times a day at least.

Oh I am so sorry you went through that with your precious little Pia! (I still have to smile when I think of her in that one picture a few months ago, peaking out from under a hat....)How scary for you.... and for her. I am praying Mango's outcome is the same as Trixie's. The worry is what made me delay it so long, now I just feel really bad about it.
I just can't wait to hold her in my arms, make her feel better.
Hugs,
Lauren
