I'm so sorry Mango is still feeling bad this morning... I would try anything to get her to eat. Even though Roxi had all that done with her teeth and being fixed, she still ate like a horse and never got sick... Luckily. But I do hear about what you are describing a lot, so don't think it something really serious. This is a very traumatic experience for them and I'm sure she is still a little upset.. Did you get the Remedy Relief?? What did your vet say about it? My vet was the one who suggested it because I didn't want her taking Valum....

Try some chicken broth too.
It is full of nutrients and will help hydrate her too.
Do you think a heating pad might help to keep her warm and comfortable?
I know that after a surgery if you get cold it just seems to make the pain more uncomfortable too. Did they give you any pain meds?
I know she might not like this next suggestion, but you might want to consider taking her temp, just to make sure she does not have a fever?

That might be a great idea!! That is a combo she might just go for. The only thing I am wondering is whether the rice could make her constipated?? I would hate to cause her more discomfort. At lease I know the rice/chicken combo would fill her up a little. She has eaten almost nothing since sunday night. After she vomited, I gave her a little nutrical, because I worry about low blood sugar, but I think I will wait another hour or so before attempting the above.

I asked the Vet about the Remedy Relief, but he had not heard of it. He did give her pain meds along with the antibiotic. She seems okay on the very little bit that I give her. She is definitely in no mood for her usual zoomies. I tried a vitamin store near me yesterday, but they did not have it. Is this for animals, or is it a "human" solution? You're so lucky that Roxi wanted to eat after her surgery. Mango has always been a finnicky eater, so I suppose this just lessened her appetite even more. The one good thing is that a really great Pet supply store opened really close by, that stocks all the higher grade foods, so if she will not eat by later today, I will send Hubby over there to find something tempting.

Janie, what kind of chicken broth?? I have some canned broth in my grocery cupboard. Would this be okay do you think??? Or would the salt content be too high because it is "human" grade??? At this point I am prepared to try whatever it takes to get her to eat.

My first preference would be low sodium, but if she has not eaten anything what you have will do until you can purchase the low sodium product.

Lauren, mine have always done well with cooked chicken, some rice and a little chix broth, but Penny surely did not have much of an appetite until her third day home after her spay. The broth she lapped at occasionally, but when her appetite returned she made up for lost time.

I think the low sodium broth is a good idea. So far I cannot get her to drink any water, but if I hold an ice cube she does lick it, so I suppose that is better than nothing. She just vomited again a few minutes ago and this is really starting to concern me. After she throws up, she just stands there, her little head just hanging down....it breaks my heart. I keep cleaning her face gently with a baby wipe, because she also had all those teeth pulled (6), besides being spayed. The vet said that two of the roots were SO long and curved (yikes), that he had a hard time extracting them. Thank goodness I can just stay home with her, because there is no way I am letting this baby out of my sight until I see a huge improvement.
I would rather this be happening to me than my little girl.

Lauren, I am concerned with the vomiting that she is experiencing. Is your vet not concerned with it also?

· Keep your pet in a warm, dry, quiet place, away from other pets and small children for at least 48 hours.

· Your pet may or may not want to eat and drink the first night following surgery. Offer food and water, and let your pet decide.

· Lack of appetite, vomiting, and feeling sluggish is normal after surgery and anesthesia. However, if any of these symptoms persist for more than 24 hours, please call for instructions.

· Discourage your pet from running, jumping, and rough play for five days.

I called him a little while ago. He asked me to describe it to him (clear and "foamy") - he said this is fairly common, especially for Mango, who has always been a vomiter.... she even gets car sick on long rides. However, if this does not stop by this afternoon, I WILL be taking her right back there. There is no way whatsoever I will risk anything with her. I remember only too well how it felt when I watched my precious Tigger so ill (MHDSRIP). If I had to run to the Vet with him several times a week (sometimes per day), it was okay..... as long as the discomfort was diagnosed/alleviated. I am an "empty-nester" - can you tell? and these babies are my heart, my treasures.

Oh Janie, thank You!! I just found this..... makes me feel better that this vomiting is the norm. She is warm and dry, snuggled right next to me in a freshly washed baby blanket, sleeping right now. I just want to see when she wakes up that the vomiting does not persist. She did eat a teeny bit of Evangers cooked chicken a few minutes ago, so after her nap, I am hoping she keeps this down.

Make her some mint tea and serve it room temp. It will help her.
