				   | Not really or not enough. Money talks. Peppers breeder didn't feel she was doing anything wrong either...and yet my beautiful boy is dead of an illness that made his life a living hell. Don't take this as a slam but...this is America and they are allowed to do as they want with their dogs too. Sadly, just because you can doesn't mean you should. My Pepper's illness was caused by bad breeding. I paid a lot of money for him so by your logic I should have gotten a very healthy dog. No I am not saying you are a bad breeder but I will tell you that his breeder says she isn't either. And my baby is dead. Some on here know my Pepper and what we went through for 3 years. They were with me while I held him as he was put to sleep. I know he had siblings who most likely have the same illness and if their owners are breeding them they are producing puppies with the same genes who will get sick like Pepper did. This is very personal for me because I still hurt over losing him on 6-27-07. I was NEVER going to get another dog because of it...then a good breeder who knew Pepper gave me my little girl. I would be lying to you if I said I don't worry about her getting sick even though I know her breeder and have seen her puppies grow and be healthy for 3 years. Sorry for getting on the soapbox. All I ask, in Pepper's Name, is please think carefully before you do ANY breeding. Please get their health checked very very carefully. Talk to other breeders and find out all the things you should know to keep your dogs and their puppies safe and healthy.

In regards to making money, some breeders are lucky if they break even after having a litter and selling the pups. There are all sorts of tests, procedures etc that ethical breeders undertake both before and after the birth of the pups. There can be unforseen circumstances, such as expensive c-sections, emergency vet visits etc. These can cost a lot of money. If breeders are in it purely for the money, then I would be concerned that all the necessary care hasn't been taken as it would take a large chunk out of the profits. | |

![]() The reason that Ohio has a lot of puppy mills is because the AMISH do this to make a living. Tho I have seen wonderful Amish barns clean as can be. I do NOT approve of kenneling dogs. Dogs need to be loved and part of the family. But in the Wooster /Millersburg/Berlin/Mount Hope area the largest settlement of Amish in the United States live. Google it and you'll see Ohio is not a "puppy mill state" Amish Country is a puppy mill AREA tho I think this OP is just a troll or I sure hope so!!!

				   | Pepper had an illness called Cerebellar Abiotrophy. It is a neurological illness that attacks the entire nervous system. At the end he couldn't stand, walk, eat, drink, play or pee without me to hold him up. On the day I put him to sleep the vet told me they believe now that this illness is caused by inbreeding. There is no cure for it and it was hell watching him struggle every single day for hours at a time just to get across the room. He also vomited everyday and coughed badly everytime he drank water. He was a very happy little boy who kept going even while he struggled. When it first started the spells would last only a few minutes...we saw it the first night we brought him home...at the end he was like that about 85% of the time. We were told that both parents carried the gene and most likely one of them had an active case of it. As I said, it was caused by bad breeding. There is a chance that if both parents didn't have it Pepper would not have had an active case of it BUT (this is very important) they STILL would have passed on the gene to each and everyone of their offspring. So if someone bred the offspring to another pup that had the gene it would happen again. That is why I said talk to other breeders! They can tell you what to test for and how to keep your dogs safe. I would never be a breeder because for me the risk is just too great of cause another pup to suffer the way my Pepper did.

I agree the worst ones you dont see. Even with the cleanest barns. Yorkies and other small breeds do not belong outside. And NO Amish have animals in the house. My husbands and my good friend is an inspector And he sees from the best to the ones he helps shut down. I just wanted everyone to know not all from Ohio are amish...or like this OP...

				   | i think you must be jumping to conclusions about ALL the amish people. dont judge all the people because of a few.. there should be laws and enforcement.. Quote:
