| ![]() you need to establish the alpha male roll and show you arent scared. if he snaps at you or your other dog you should roll him over on his back and hold him there until he submits to you and stops squirming or biting. your dog will respect you and love you a lot more if you take control. hiring a trainer to teach you how to do this properly is a good idea. you are on the right track! |

| ![]() Can someone explain what situations to use the alpha male roll in? I've been doing it for humping and the food/toy aggression, but should I use it in others? |

| ![]() The alpha roll is very dangerous to use actually when trying to show your dominance. It could easily end in a bite to the person trying to use it on the dog. I highly suggest you consult a trained behavorist who can walk you through step by step how to deal with aggression (if this is what is happening). Everyone on this site I'm sure wants to help you, but really in cases of aggression you need a trained proffesional. |

I had a Rotwiller/Newfoundland mix that tried that and I had a time training him but in the end he became the sweetest non aggressive boy in the world. I would give him a bone then take it away while I growled at him! I used a glove just in case. By 1 yr old he was trained but it wasn't easy. At eight months he weighted over 100 lbs. BE AGRESSIVE!!! He needs to know you are alpha now and learn you are the boss. If you don't get him properly trained he will end up biting someone and need to be put to sleep. It really is not his fault, he needs a tough hand to train him.

I am making a little head way, husband thinks I am being too aggressive and that I should SPEAK gently to him HA, If I do, I might as well give him my bed and I sleep in the crate ![]() Well since my last post this is what I did. I fed him BUT I made sure my hands were all in his food bowl, so he had to approach ME and the bowl to get his food, while he is eating it, I am picking up a bit with my hand still inside the bowl and presenting it to him from my fingers, he took it and nibble a few times on the fingers. Then I laid my FOOT over the bowl when he tried to eat it when my hands were out of the bowl, he backed off, I moved my foot, he came to the bowl I took foot and covered bowl again, he backed off, I did this several times until he approached the bowl with CAUTION ![]() ![]() Then after dinner and took him on his back in my lap, resisting or not and firmly told him NO NO NO, and proceeded to cut the hairs from below his feet in the pads. he resisted a bit until I said several times NO NO NO NO. he succumed to that. Boom, next I just finished CUTTING HIS TOE NAILS ![]() ![]() I have also been taking his chewies away and feedig it to him in my hands so he has to lick hands and chewey to get it. Still not comfortable with this but I will continue. Last edited by soccbydo; 01-31-2008 at 11:14 AM. | |

Mom to Marty & Maddie Donating Member | ![]() So this pup is overweight, extremely aggressive, refuses to use the bathroom outside even though you take him out for 30 minutes at a time, howls all night, AND has health problems? And all of this in such a short period of time! Gosh, I guess you have your hands full... Last edited by AngieDoogles; 01-31-2008 at 03:00 PM. |

YEAH! You are on the right track. As soon as he figures out your alpha and the boss he will do anything to please you! Just be very consistent and he will be a wonderful dog. This makes me miss my big boy Grizzley the ( rotwiller/Newfindland mix) Now I have all small dogs and only 7 of them ![]()
