| Okay. I am scared to death. I live in NC and I have just scheduled an appointment for my girl Jazzmin to be groomed at Petsmart. I take her to the Banfield Hospital there as well and the employees at this particular location have always been very nice and caring from the beginning but I just got done reading ALOT of topics on this forum about the horror stories that most have encountered. I looked around online and I can't seem to find any other Grooming Salons that have groomed Yorkies that I would like to take her to either. I feel like I am stuck in between a rock and a hard place right now because I know my attitude won't handle her being shaved down when that isn't what I ask for. So to try and save myself from being on the news from totally wrecking Petsmart's grooming salon is there anyone in Raleigh North Carolina that has a great groomer that they take their babies to that I wouldn't be worried sick about? or does anyone know of anyone? Any help would be appreciated |

| I suggest you find a picture of what you want and be VERY specific. Use a felt tip marker on the picture and point out details you insist on. Some people like the hair around their eyes trimmed, other people do not. (Once you cut it, it takes forever to grow out again so be sure it's what you want) Good luck. Shelby hasn't ever been to a groomer because I am too afraid. I had to learn to do it myself. Good luck and I hope we don't see you on the news |

| Me too I feel the same way. There has been way too many stories about bad groomers and people getting total opposite of what they asked for. I too, think I'd probably be in a police car somewhere if they shaved my Meka. Which is why, I do it myself. I purchased a clippers set for dogs (target $25) or wherever. Mine came with a how to DVD and I love it. I usually find pics of other Yorkies, with cuts that I really like and try to duplicate it. It works for us My Meka (8 mo) can be "jumpy" when I groom her, so I know that things definately wouldnt work for her elsewhere... Not until shes older maybe. Hope this helps...Cant wait to see pics

| I live in Texas and take my dog to Petsmart to be groomed. I have never had a problem with them. In fact I think they have done a great job, especially since she won't sit still for them. I once took her to Petco and asked for them to cut her hair short, I guess I was not specific enough. I went back to pick her up and she was shaved, all but her head. She looked like one of those Chinese Crested dogs. I was mortified. |

| I just went to Petsmart in Northern New York on Saturday. I went in telling them I'd heard bad things and was very nervous. The ladies were SO nice and patient. I was EXTREMELY clear (with a list) about what I wanted (hygiene trim, nails, bath, tipped ears) and got a beautifully groomed dog back. I am VERY happy with the job they did. So much so that next time I will probably let them cut some hair other than on SoCo's paws |

| I use to take my Toby and Shelby Rose to the Petsmart groomers but when Toby started refusing to walk to that side of the store and they both shaked so badly when I took them through the grooming room door, I knew I better find somewhere else. Plus, I found their hair was frequently uneven and the cuts sloppy even using the same groomer. Since my babies were scared to go in there, I knew they didn't want any part of that place again so I started checking around my area and actually found a fantastic place by asking at my Vet's office who recommended a groomer to me. Now my puppies love going into the groomers and look great, relaxed and happy when I pick them up. The staff make a big deal out of making them (and us) feel very comfortable so I have no qualms about leaving my puppies there for an hour to be groomed. I actually have to carry them out because they want to stay and play there!! When I'd pick them up at Petsmart from grooming they clung to me like their lives depended on it digging their nails into me and strained and barking to get out through the door away from that place. Great places can be found you just need to do some legwork! :^)

| I think that is what I am going to actually break down and do. As much as I hate that I would have to stand and watch them for however long it make take them to finish the job at least I will have the satisfaction of knowing that if they start making mistakes I can stop them dead in their tracks rather than getting a shaved surprise when I arrive. Thanks for the suggestion. That really does make sense. |

| Standing there watching them might make you feel better, but typically when the dog knows mom is there, they are HORRIBLE for the grooming. That makes the groomers job harder and makes them less able to get what you want.

| I took my pup to the breeder who was happy to groom Remi until he was a year old. I drove over forty miles one way but felt that it was well worth the trip. My husband and I scheduled the grooming with the breeder as needed or about every 8 weeks. During this time I investigated every local groomer. I got recommendations from the vet, from neighbors, from the local pet shop, etc., and one name was repeated over and over to me. This lady was recommended as especially good for small dogs. I then "dropped in" on the groomer, unannounced one day. I told her I would like to speak with her when she had a moment and that I would wait. From the next room I watched her groom a Maltese and everything appeared to be going very well. The dogs in their crates were not barking, nor did they appear to be nervous. I liked what I saw and I liked the groomer's attitude and her kind handling of the dogs. She picked Remi up, kissed him and called him her Munchkin. Remi has been to her twice and has done well and looks good when I pick him up. I feel greatly relieved. I too was very worried about handing my little one over to someone with scissors and clippers. Lots of good luck! Merry Christmas! |

| I'm sure not every Petsmart groomer is horrible. If you've heard great things about the groomers at your Petsmart then I say it's worth a try. The reason you hear so much about petsmart grooming is because there are a TON of Petsmarts so while you may hear one complaint about a groomer that owns her own little shop somewhere, Petsmarts are all over so of course you'll hear more about them. It all depends on the groomer though.
