I think dogs do not know how to expect things from us or have power struggle with us when it comes to sleeping. They are much more simpler than that. It really stems from the fact that they are creatures of habit and habit is determined by the owner. So if its been made a habit where they sleep in bed every night, come the time they will want to go on the bed because that is what they do every night. So if they are not allowed on the bed usually and just get an hour or two in bed every week, they haven't fall in to the habit/routine yet hence human think they aren't expecting.

| ![]() Izzy slept with me off and on. When I first brought him home he slept in his crate. When we went to Nashville for christmas, he slept in the bed with me because he was scared being in a new place. After that he slept with me up until this past weekend. Saturday night, I put him in his crate. I made the decision to do it for several reasons: 1. I want him to get back into the routing of sleeping there and making it his home...I didnt spend the money on the crate, blankets etc for nothing. ![]() 2. I want my bed back. 3. He can be a bit annoying in the middle of the night: walking on the bed, chewing on whatever making a smacking sound, climbing on me etc. I had to put him in his crate in the middle of the night a few times because of this. 4. His breath smells like death because he is teething. ![]() 5. I'm single....nuff said there. ![]() He did well in his crate Saturday and last night. He's kind of a sleeper anyway so it works out for me. I do think that they tend to take over the house if you let them.

| ![]() There would be a huge fight if my boyfriend told me my dog couldn't sleep in the bed or even in the room anymore. I would tell him he can go sleep in the other room or get used to the noise. I would choose my dog over a man anyday... they are much more loyal. The many dogs my parents had since i was born have slept with me every night of my life and there has never been a problem with behavior control or anything. For a while i had 2 chihuahuas, a german shepard, and a cat sleeping with me and never had a problem. I find they sleep much better and get up less during the night if they are in bed with you. It might not be such a good idea when they are tiny puppies because of the food and water issue, but when they get a couple of months old and can hold their pee through the night they are much better bed buddies than a man. I would just make my man get used to something different rather than my dog. If he isn't willing to then he doesn't love you enough to sleep in your bed anyways.

| ![]() Mine sleeps in a crate in the kitchen. It's been like that since day 1. I didn't want to start the habit of sleeping with me. You never know what will happen if circumstances change. He goes in on command and never makes a peep. The crate is his safe zone and I know I won't have any problems with him like I might if he had to suddenly stop sleeping with us. |

| ![]() Its been day 4 with him sleeping in the crate by himself, I haven't had any problems. In fact when I put him in there he immediately, gets comfortable and falls asleep....he's such a good boy. ![]()

| ![]() When I had Ninna only she slept on the bed all the time. but now that we have our second Tiffany I did not think it was fair to have one on the bed and one in the crate so off to sleep in the crate toguether they went. Of course I keep in the dressing area of my bedroom so they are still within eye's view of me all the time.

| ![]() Rockie has the option of sleeping with us but if we move him (with feet or arm touching), he leaves or moves to the cedar chest at the end of our bed. He typically would rather sleep with his back against my vanity or behind a door (where he would see anyone coming towards him). Sometimes we'll find him behind my daughter's door--very odd. When he goes potty (doggy door), he'll come in and wake us with kisses as if to tell us "hey, I went potty"--that happens a couple of times a night. He's not a snuggler for sure and I'm not sure why--I spoiled him as a puppy, holding him while he slept and all. I guess he's a little different than most of the yorkies I read about. ![]() |

| ![]() She likes to come up to bed any time we are there... I hear her barking with displeasure at the end of the bed and I see those 2 tiny ears break the horizen of the bed as she jumps up.... If we don't pick her up, she gives up and goes to her chair and looks so sad... When we get her up on bed, she cuddles and sleeps.... Afterwards, I gently put her down and she goes to her house and sleeps.... ![]() |
