| ![]() Ok this is the situation. My 2 month old yorkie (whom we brought home on saturday) pees where he pleases. I have placed several weewee pads around the house but the house is big and even though we confine him to the kitchen and living room, to him it is like a whole big field. He spends alot of time in the kitchen and goes there by himself because he knows thats where his food and water is; so most of the time he pees there too..BUT never on the weewee pad! always under a chair for some reason. Or sometimes when he is not in the kitchen he just pees where he is. whether it is in the middle of the living room or in a corner. What do I do? How do I show him where to pee and what is a better method of getting him there. I caught him peeing several times and always pick him up and show him the weewee pad but he always forgets. Someone help me!! |

| ![]() ok i will tell you what i did when lexi came home with me.. the first thing i did is lay a wee pad down where i wanted her to go.. then put her directly on the pad and said go potty .said it plenty of times until she went. of course she would try to get off it, and i just put her back on it and said again and again, go potty lexi... when she finally did, i praised her and praised her, gave her a treat,, good potty lexi , good potty lexi fromthem on, she went potty on her pads... praise and treat is all you need |

Luvs Lulu Donating Member | ![]() Praising works well but if you dont' happen to catch the pup then you can always take the pad and dab a bit of the pee on it so it's scented..even though I think that most pads are supposed to be lightly scented to attract them. That is what I had to do with my Shih Tzu to teach him. After that and I told him potty here Hobbs he learned that is where I wanted him to go. ![]()

| ![]() I personally think that he has waaaay too much room to run. You need to confine him more. Ty is 12 weeks and in an x-pen when I am not RIGHT next to him. If you give him too much room he's going to "go" all over the place. You should try a smaller area and take him to the pads and say "go potty" or whatever phrase you want to use, but be consistent.. The key is consistency. Then when he goes praise, praise, praise... I use to do a little potty dance... ROFL As stupid as that sounds it got my first (Daisy) trained within 2 weeks. After she went she got a treat and then I did the potty dance and it got her all excited... Hope this was some help to you! |

| ![]() Very easy fix, crate him. They aren't genetically disposed to go on pee pads you have to train him. Crate him most of the time and when you take him out the crate take him straight to the pee pad. Make sure he stays there until he goes. Praise him very little after he goes. He is still at the age where you really should be crating him most of the time. Right now he will get the urge to go and just go. He has no limitations of the space he has so he just goes wherever.

| ![]() I dont know if it will work for you but I had a lot of trouble getting Twinkle to pee in one place. I took notice of the place she was most comfortable to pee (upstairs in a hidden corner-thank goodness) I put the pad there and lay on the floor saying "pad" and screaming "good girl" when she would get on it. Naturally she went there to try to wee and the pad was in the way, but i kept saying pad and good girl and eventually she got the idea. Also for a while I rewarded her with a munchie stick each time and then gradually weaned her off the munchies so now she gets one before bed if there has been no accidents. Good luck, and try not to get too annoyed or frustrated! ![]() |

| ![]() Thanks everyone for your answers but it is just so HARD!!! Last night around 5 pm he woke up from a nap ( he takes those naps every 30 minutes!) and I took him straight to the peepad, I said Napoleon go potty! go potty! and he just walked away. I put him back and repeated the words, and he just walks away. I am sure he has no idea what Im talking about when I say go potty! even if I am pointing at the peepad when I say it. When I point there, he just thinks its an opportunity to nibble on my fingers and my engagement ring! (he loves diamonds btw) |

Luvs Lulu Donating Member | ![]() Also remember while he is pottying (when you do catch him) say good boy...that's right go potty. I do that to Lex all the time. After a week of doing it... once I say Lex you wanna go potty he runs by the door and waits for me to grab his leash. It sure does take some patience. Thankfully these little guys do seem very smart. ![]()

| ![]() The greatest thing that has happened as far as potty training my pup is that he has simply gotten older and pees less frequently. My pup is 9 months old now - and if I take him outside every two hours or so, he never pees in the house. He even often goes for 6 or 7 hours while I'm at work now without peeing (he is confined to the kitchen and laundry room area). This is good because potty pads don't work in my house. I don't know why I even put one down for him. He just shreds it and rips it into a million pieces. .... it's just another toy as far as he's concerned. And - fortunately, he has always been good about not peeing during the night. But, the moment he wakes up - I get him outside. If I don't take him outside - forget it - he'll pee anywhere. ----------- I still put a belly band on him at night - when we go visiting - and when he may not get outside every two hours or so. But, these are beginning to stay dry for hours now. ****** So - if nothing else works - just getting older does help a lot - as does getting your pup outside often. I am so thankful summer is here. It is such a help as far as getting these little guys outside more often. Carol Jean |
