| ![]() Loki is totally outside trained. He had weekly accidents until he was about a year old, when we put bells up. Bells rock. Now he is about 16 months and he is completely trained - meaning months without accidents. He actually had an accident last weekend and i rushed in a urine sample to the vet because he is SO good that I figured he had a UTI. (His accident was in front of the door - when he has to go he HAS to go and I think one of us didn't hear him.) We started off with several UTI's when he was a puppy, and he also has nighttime incontinence issues he is on drugs for AND he drinks about twice as much water as he should - so he is a pee machine. It is absolutely possible to get them completely trained, it's just a lot of hard work. Good luck.

| ![]() I hate to tell you guys, but when Yorkies are ready they will be potty trained! I have Lilly who is 9 months old and only had a few accidents since she is 12 weeks old. Then I have Petey who is 8 months and sometimes I see him run for the door and other times just squat anywhere it was standing. ANd then there is Bell who is 3 and it took me forever to train her, but still has an accident every once in a blue moon. They are like children, when they are ready they will be trained. ![]()

| ![]() I've had Desi for one year. When she came home from the breeder she was 12 weeks and completely pooh pad trained. I thought I was soooo lucky but, little by little she started to regress to the point where the only time she hit the pooh pad was when she tripped over it. NOW.. FINALLY..(shhhh, I don't want to say it too loud).. but this week she is hitting the pooh pad again. It was a lot a hard work and persistance.

| ![]() The best thing we ever did was put in a doggie door. We had to bring Katy to a friends house to let "Roxie" teach her how to use it. Potty training was a snap after that! |

| ![]() Deisel is 6 months and he was using the pee pad until a couple fo days ago and he started doing it on the floor. He has never gotten the poo on the pad. He won't eat at 7:00 when we get up he waits and we do leave it out. I have never had a dog and he was sick in the beginning when we got him at Christmas so taking him out into the cold was not an option. Someone mentioned a litter box but I don't really know the pros and cons between taking him out and using the box (besides it will be outside and I won't have to clean it). We do leave food & water out with him and he has the living room, kitchen, and hallway to roam thru the day (too much freedom, maybe). I do have a crazy schedule so I started makring out time to come home and take him out at lunch, trying not to leave him longer than 6 hours (one hour for each of the months that he is). I am not sure if the things that I have learned so far are right or not. Should I put his food down for 1 hour and then take it up? Do I take him outside immediately after getting up? How soon after he eats do I take him out? Is a playpen better than a crate? I am lost if anyone can help me I would be REALLY grateful!!!! And do they really need someone to play with - like another dog? My email is xtreme53@aol.com |

Put his food down for 20 mins. He needs to eat when you feed him and he will learn that in a day or two. Loki rarely leaves his bowl full and he is so well trained now that if I forget to pick it up he will wait until the next feeding time to eat it - that's just when he's hungry. Its easier to housetrain him if you do this. Also, Loki seems fine hanging out all day but twice a month or so I send him to daycare to run around with the other dogs. He comes home really tired :-)

| ![]() Thank you for your feedback and it is not always 6 hours it just depends on the day but I will try and change it so that he doesn't have to hold it so long. I will try the food schedule. Thank you!!!!!!! |

| ![]() my Tootie has figured out the peepee thing, but just cant get the hang of the poo poo outside thing... I leave my door(to the puppy fence) open alot, he will COME INSIDE to go poopoo.. LOL... he is only 7 months old and is confined to the kitchen when we are gone so its not too bad. he LOVES the leash and always goes when walking, but only pee pee.. haha

| ![]() Starting tonight we are going to try the pick up the water 2 hours before bedtime and go for a walk to potty then again in the morning and leave the food out for 20-30 minutes then outside again and then to the crate until I come home at lunch then out again. We will see how it works and I will let you know. I am still thinking about putting some grass pieces in a pan and placing it on the back porch and letting him go there. It will still be outside and it will be on grass. The verdict is still out on that. |

| ![]() My boyfriend's Parents just got a 7 week old St. Bernard. So adorable! He has had about 3 accidents so far since Friday, but here's his schedule - He whines in the morning he goes out to pee which is around 3 or so in the morning, then goes to sleep, wakes up again with the rest of us, then goes pee or poo again. then He plays with someone who ever is around then takes a quick nap then when he wakes up he goes outside to pee or poo whatever he needs - plays, naps, poo or pee, etc for about half the day. (this is on fridays to sundays) during the week he's in a crate from 7-12 then gets let out at lunch to do his business, then goes back into the crate until about 5:30. Then he goes out again. etc etc. whenever he whines or looks around for somewhere to go we take him outside! being always consistant! so he kind of taught us when he has to go, he just whines at the door or when he's looking around and we take him outside. The most important thing is to be consistant and paitent always! it really works.
