| If you could improve your dog's potty how would you? Ok so I'm doing a wee bit of research, I'm considering designing a product, and I'd love to know what you love/hate about your current potty system. My focus is indoor potties, but I'd love to hear everything you like/dislike about any system. I am in no way using this research for business or marketing, this is simply to help me build my concept and improve my ideas. I ask that you be careful about brand bashing on here, I'd prefer if you simply state the type of system rather than the brand to keep things civil . For instance: potty pads, reusable potty pads, grid system toilet, potty patch toilet, outdoor porch potty, outdoor (on grass), or anything else you may use to potty train. Thanks in advanced I'll start it off - Harley walks when he poops, and there has to be a way to get the poo to fall off on his tray rather than my hard wood floors.

| Ok here are my thoughts. I would prefer to use news paper and throw it away. But my puppies rip it up. So I use a standard cat litter pan with washable pee pads. I made the pads myself to fit the cat pan. They are all cotton. My sister uses the pet apartment system when she traines her poodle pups. But I have a very small house and the apartment things are quite large. I need something that is small like the cat pan. Also the pads stink so I wash them everyday.

| I like using the potty pads both washable & disposable. While I can usually find washables in a big enough size (or just buy over big & then cut them down), the disposables are just too small. I'd like a bigger disposable, preferrably more rectangular than square, like 2ft x 3-3.5ft. I use the disposables on the go and at other people's homes and I don't like the gap/seam between then I have to lay two down for a big enough area, as I don't want any area to leak through on someone else's floor.

| I like this idea. Rectangular pad. I would probably want a way oversized pad. I tape half of a pad the the wall, and use a second to place under it to give Kaji room to potty. Kaji not only walks when he poops, he also walks when he pees!!!! Giving him a target on the wall makes him happy because he can lift his leg, and it actually helps keep his paws dry. I've also tried a a pad holder, but Kaji peed outside of it way too much. He never lifted his leg, but his aim is off. He aims better when he lifts his leg. I've really wanted to try the system Uni uses. I think it's a litter tray with a disposable pad inside. It sounds nice because everything is contained. But I know if I tried, Kaji would not potty in there. Too confining with no room to roam and find the perfect potty place.

As far as how high, would a picture of the current set up help? Kaji's short, and tries to aim high, but he really can only go so high.

| My best guess is the pad is taped 10 inches up the wall. It doesn't need to be that high, but I'd rather give him 2 extra inches.

Katie Scarlett's Mommy Donating Member | What a great idea to do research! I am very interested to see what people have to say. We haven't got our baby yet so I don't know how much insight I can add. She will be here very soon and we ordered our system online. I know you said no brand names but I can tell you about it. It's like a little apartment thing. It is a wire crate and has a divider that is in the center of it. The divider has a special hole cut out in it for the size of dog you have. For example, we purchased a small size. On one side is her bed (and this size is very small....just enough room for her to sit, stand, turn around, and lie back down....and then the other side is bigger and that is where the potty pad goes. Now we have a girl, but on the instructional video we received with our product, it shows how that if you have a boy who hikes his leg you can get special oversized pads that kind of go up the sides of the crate to help him when he hikes his leg OR you could take up 2 pads to 2 sides of the crate to get any in the case of hiking legs. We hope this system will work out well for us, but I will try to let you know our experience. I wonder if our's will be a walker when she goes too because if she does, that might be a problem if the door to the crate is open.

| Mine has always gone on pads. Pads in holders, not in holders, with walls around and without. lol I have the pads now in a long try about 39 long by 15 deep. I am going to give her a week or two on that and if she is consistent I am going to change the pads in the tray out with real grass sod. The sod is MUCH cheaper than pads and I should be able to rinse it out every so often and replace when it dies or goes stinky. Forgot to say, the reasoning behind my wanting to go to grass instead of pads (outside of price) is that I think it will help with any confusion she may have with throw rugs and carpet vs pads since grass is a different surface all together.

| Fyi on our experience with a commercial tray with 3 sides - looked like a good idea but Gracie didn't like it. She's used to a flat tray. she sometimes miscalculates and puts her front feet in the tray and her back feet out, so you know where the pee goes! We thought the wall thing would help, but I guess she feels confined (it's like 23" by 24'). Might work with a bigger area, though. Or with a single wall for boys. I like using disposable pads (or paper would be fine) as long as it can be clamped down to prevent the 'oh this looks like a big piece of kleenex, I think I'll run with it' experience I also want something that protects carpet. Generally, 24" by 24" works for Gracie - as she gets older her aim gets better! Good luck on your design. |

| Levi is outdoor trained. If I could improve this experience I would like someone else to walk behind us to pick up his poop. Other than that, no real complaints about outdoor training. It works well for us.

| Princess is pad trained & we keep the pad in the bathroom. She wont go on it anywhere else & I believe it's due to her lack of "privacy". I wish I could some how give her the illusion that I can't see her, yet she doesn't feel too homey that she wont go. It'd eliminate accidents when someone's visiting & in the bathroom, etc. as she wont wait.
