How to control the barking

A lot of people have had success doing it this way. Some even put the soft sided crate in the bed with them. I had Uni sleep in my bed from the getgo, so I personally didn't do that, but heard it works. They just want to be near you.

I think Nancy has had success with that too. It looks like a remote, so she can pick up any remote and "threaten" to use it, and you don't even have to have the actual real remote and it still works. LOL

Yep-I did this w/ Jackson, putting the crate on my bed. I only did it for the first 3 weeks or so and then he began sleeping on my bed.

And LOL I remember reading that about Nancy's remote. We haven't tried that yet!

Max takes his guard dog responsibilities a little too seriously and I have been challenged, especially on walks, to adequately communicate to him that he doesn't need to sound the alarm at everything that moves.

I finally resorted to the spray bottle, a little one that shoots like a water pistol. The first couple days, I came home with a wet dog.

I can now take both Max and Teddy out together and pass their barking triggers quietly -- almost all of them. There is a Chow that Max hates with a passion.

I always give the command to be quiet or 'no bark' when I hear them getting ready. Sometimes I shoot the pavement in front of the dogs if they do not obey.

As you wrote, just the site of the bottle is usually enough. In the house, I acknowledge that they are barking (as Capt Noonie recommends) and I look to see if it is important. If not, I give the quiet command and pick up the bottle if necessary.

Where do you get the Pet Parade Bark Repeller? I completely agree with the playful barking, that doesn't make you a weirdo at all! LOL! They are dogs so they should be allowed to bark..sometimes!

I failed to mention that the first time we introduced Cooper to the 'dreaded bottle', the trainer through it across the room and scared the *%&$ out of Cooper and me. At that point forward, when Cooper sees the bottle, he knows.

I've read the reviews of this product on Amazon and it seems amazing! It's not damaging in any way? I don't want Cooper to NEVER bark. There was a time once when there was a stranger outside my property and he went nuts so I still want him to bark just in case.

Nope, not at all. Trust me, my dads dogs still bark. It's just a fast way to stop them, and they don't do so much unnecessary barking. There was a thread here on YT not too long ago and 99% of people here who bought it said it worked great! Also, my dads Doxy mix barks at other dogs on walks and my stepmom brought it along and he stopped! Also, a stray dog came towards her and she pushed the button and the dog went in the opposite direction!

I'm just kidding about Jackson. I actually we lived closer because the 2 of them would play together so beautifully. Cooper is just like Jackson.

Well, I had my two sleep in my old dog's big canvas crate at night. It was more like a play pen. Then I started letting them sit with me for a while on my bed while I watched TV, before I went to sleep. One night I fell asleep and forgot to put them back in their bed. When I woke up the next morning...they were right there still asleep. Then I started letting them sleep with me.

LOL! He thinks he's 61lbs. haha. I think Cooper & Jackson would play really well together, too. They seem like they're both so adventurous!

I have 2 German Shepherds and Alfie my yorkie who thinks he is a German Shepherd. As soon as a car turns into the road, the german shepherds bark while looking out the window. alfie can't even see out of the window but he has to join in with the barking. The doorbell rings and the 3 of them are barking, even if the wind blows the letterbox they start. I have tried the water pistol and stones in a bottle but they only work on one of the german shepherds. They are brilliant guard dogs though and nobody would ever try to get in my house uninvited.
