| Honey are you sure you want a Yorkie? I just answered your post about her turning "gray." It sounds like you are totally disappointed in this little dog. How old is she? Are you crate training her? How many times a day do you take her out? Maybe you should consider giving her to someone who has more time to spend with her and who will love her no matter what colors she turns out to be. There are tons of people on Yorkie Talk who will take her off your hands if you want to give her up. She is just like a child. If you could send her away to be trained, you need to find her a loving home. I see now that you are only 12 years old. Does your mother help you train Bella?

| E, I saw that she is 32 - not 12. But I agree. I couldn't send mine away for anything in the world. It would surely break her heart if she were separated from me. She's truly my little velcro doggie.

| I love Bella with ALL my heart. And no, I will not give her up! Its just I went from having a fully trained wonderful Labador, to a nutty puppy. I have a very demanding job, and this needs to be taken care of. I dont think training school are a harsh punishment. Its just a speeding up, and easier process. I hate when I have to come home to ruined heels, and pee spots. I was simply asking for some help, not to be shunned. And yes I do love her any color she is. I was simply stating i dont like how much gray is in her!

| My sister sent her dogs away to a trainer for two weeks. It cost her $1000 for both of them... They were great at the trainers and went right back to their oldselves at home. if you want your dog to listen to you , you need to train WITH it to get the best results. There are private trainers that can come to you on your schedule or pretty close to what is convienient for you. they will work with the dog and then bring you into the picture to learn to take over. You should try looking some up under trainers in your area.

| Hmm. That sounds really good actually. Do you know how long it takes? Or how many lessons I should say?

| Alot of trainers will have a package plan. So many lessons for so much money. Only you can tell when enough is enough. Check out more then one because prices can vary ALOT. In my area it was from $15 an hour to $45 an hour. I found that a $20 an hour lady was the best. She always stayed more then an hour and also we took outing to parks and stuff so the dog could learn to listen with distractions and other dogs and people around. You also want to find someone that will come to your home and meet with your dog first. You can usually tell right away who will be good and who won't. The $20 an hour lady stayed 45 minutes for the first free get aquainted visit and already had her snapping to it. The key is practice and reinforcement when the dog learns what the commands mean. most good trainers can teach you also just how to PRACTICE. Seems kinda pricey but still way more convenient then regular puppy classes and also cheaper then the send away school

| You don't need to send her away to train her. Take her out frequently to potty when you are home. Then confine her to small areas of the house (bathroom, laundryroom, etc.) with pee pads unless you are with her. When you're away or at work, crate her or leave her in the same areas that you confine her to during the periods you are home. Whichever, make sure she had food, water and some play toys. Be patient...they want to be good and thrive on routine. Good Luck! |

| Ship-Away School I would second the suggestion about getting a trainer to come to the house and help you. When we first got our lab puppy (almost 7 years ago) I found a trainer to come to the house. She worked with us to show us how to train Maddie. It was really a great experience. My kids were involved in the training too. So we were all on the same page. Unfortunately, my husband couldn't make it at the time we did the training, so we had to tell him and show him what we learned. It really is about training us and then passing things along to our puppies. We also went out to the park and met up with other dogs that she was training. Later I went on to do an agility class with her. I have not yet called her to see about training Sadie. I figure I am going to try to do the things I did when we trained Maddie. Maddie is such a good girl now. Doesn't always come when you call her though. Other than that, she is a good girl. Good luck! |

| I agree I would first try and train your dog yourself with the help of a trainer. I knew someone a while back who got a yorkie and sent her away to school then when they got her back only kept her a short time before sending her to their parents. I'm pretty sure they weren't happy with her performance once she got home, I could be wrong they may have just gotten her as a gift for the parents but I don't think so. Its been a little while ago and my memory isn't the best. Anyway with my four dogs I have noticed that they listen to me more than my husband because I am the one who works with them. Even Reagan who is indoors and around Jody all the time still behaves better for me. I really think the key is to play an active role in training your dog. Also I think when you train you dog you develop a bound with your dog that you may not get otherwise, this has been my experience anyway. Your dog is just devoted to you and wants to please you, again this is my opinion. So try to find a trainer to come to your house or check into some local classes then if that doesn't work you could always use a school as a last resort, but I really don't think you will have to if you really devote yourself to training.

| I would absolutely agree on having a trainer meet with you and your yorkie. It may sound like a dream come true to send her to be trained but you also need the same training. That way you and Bella are on the same page. She knows what you want and you know how to get her to do it. Good luck!

| If it were me I'd get a trainer that would help me with her at home. It's one thing for them to behave for others, and another to have her behave for you. I think a little more time and patience on your part may go a long way to getting the puppy you want. |

| I have a friend who has a two year old yorkie that she was going to get rid of because he was out of control. Then she had a person come 6 times to her house and it cost $600. You could probably find someone like that. You mentioned coming home to chewed up shoes and pee. Maybe you should consider crating your baby when you aren't home. A little puppy can have anxiety if they have the run of the house and that could be why she chews up shoes. Also, if you aren't there to catch her when she pees you won't be able to correct the behavior. I feel your pain we have an 8 year old lab and a 6 month old yorkie. It is like comparing apples to oranges, your yorkie is a whole new animal, believe me. It is possible to train her but it will take a big time committment on your part. Yorkies are harder to potty train than the average "big" dog and that alone is a full time job. Have you considered doggy day care or someone to come into your home to take her out while you are at work? I hope that you are able to work it out. Yorkies have a lot of love to give but if you are always frustrated and upset with her she may not be the dog for you. Good luck.
