| Quick question to the rest of you in this process...Brody is 11 weeks old and he only does #2 once per day (in the am) even though he eats three times per day (Royal Canin), and he does not pee right after eating/drinking/playing/waking. He seems to hold it until he can get to somewhere he shouldn't do it (ha ha). I wait and wait and wait, and then bam, the minute I let my guard down figuring he must not have to go and I let him on the floor, he goes. |

| Maybe wait 15-20 minutes after he eats to take him out. Lexi did not go immediately after either. The puppy trainer suggested this and it does work. He has several more months until he is six months old. Just keep being consistent, get some Natures Miracle, and he will get it. Are you taking him out the same door every time? Routine is important. |

| I am happy to report that Scruffs has not peed or pood in the house since July 1st . Maybe a few weeks earlier but I didn't keep track. I'm thinking if I keep this up for another 3 months, he will forget he can even go in the house and then will hold it when he has to go.

| Just wanted to report in: Brody is doing really well with crate training! He now knows that he needs to potty right when he comes out of his crate in order to get some playtime! Then we let him out with us in the house or the yard for about an hour or so before he goes back into his crate for some rest time. I'm still keeping a hawk's eye on him while he's out, we've had some accidents because I wasn't watching carefully enough, but yesterday we also had a bit of a breakthrough, as Brody was out in the kitchen with me and had to go, and he went right over to where his pen is (his potty area) but because it wasn't open he peed right next to it. So now I'll have to keep the pen open when he's out playing with us, in case he has to go. I think he may really be getting the hang of it. He's still going in the yard also when he's out there. Natural instincts I guess. So I keep a watchful eye on him outside too, so I can pick up the poop, and I am hoping when the Rascal dog potty gets here he'll take to it easily. Anyone else actively potty training their pup want to give us an update??? |

| There seem to be a lot of us going through potty training right now - hence all of the threads about it, so I thought we could get this thread going with support and updates. Anyone?? I started Brody out at 11 weeks, when we got him, (after reading on here for advice) with a crate and xpen with just enough room for his potty pads. I crated him, then would let him out onto the pads, ask him to potty and treat and praise him when he did. Then he'd get some free time out to play. It didn't take but a day or two for him to understand that it was time to potty when he came out of his crate. He was also going potty when we went outside to play, too. Overnight we'd leave the crate door open so he could potty when he needed to. During the day we did crate/potty/free time/repeat. Then after a few weeks we switched to a Rascal dog potty (fake grass), and I made the xpen a little bigger so he had some bare floor. At first he had a few pee accidents on the floor so we went right back to a smaller xpen with no bare floor and then tried again a few days later. Now he is 16 weeks old. I feed him twice a day on a schedule, he's great about pooping only in his Rascal or outside. He doesn't have accidents inside his xpen (which we made bigger). But he had two pee accidents while playing in the house with us. I attribute this to a) it being hard to tell if he just went pee on the Rascal before letting out for playtime and b) him not having access to or knowing how to go back to his Rascal when he needs to go and he's out in the house. So I decided to get rid of the xpen and give him run of the kitchen now. This gives him an even larger area to claim as "his den" and gives him more of an idea that he can play all over the kitchen but when he needs to go, he needs to get to his Rascal (which is in the same exact place it was in the xpen. I am going to see how this goes, and monitor to make sure he doesn't have pee accidents on the kitchen floor. If this goes well then I believe it will just be a matter of allowing him more freedom into the other rooms and seeing if he remembers to go to his Rascal when he needs to go out. I am also considering getting a bell and bell training him at the door to go outside. |

| help with potty training I'm new to Yorkie talk. I'm having problems with potty training. I gave my daughter one of my puppy's of my past litter. She is six months old. She sleeps with my daughter on her bed every night. She holds it all night. When we let her out in the morning she does go potty then. But the rest of the day she goes in the crate and does it there. I never had any problems with my yorkies. I'm very confuse with this one. She will bark when I have her in the crate and we do run to her but to late it's there for us to pick up. I don't know if she barks because she has done it or I just don't get there in time. When I do take her out I do stay with her for a long time. Any one has idea!!

| Doing pretty good with pads I just wanted to report that Penny is doing great with the pads, but not so great with the fake grass. I think I pushed it too fast, so now we have the fake grass next to the pad and the grass has a pad on top. We now keep our bedroom door open all the time and she does not have ANY accidents in there! She used to go in there and do business when she got upset about something, but we locked her up in her crate after pointing out her accident to her gently. It only took 3 lock ups to stop the behavior. We have been letting her into the living room with supervision, and no accidents in there either. Yay! Now if I can only get her trained to the grass without her going backwards in her training. |

Just a question for you guys, I would think the grass would be gross? (alliteration!). How do you clean the poop and pee off of it? I think it would be cuter to have a little patch of potty grass in my apartment then two stained pads, but I take Thor to work, hotels, etc, and he recognizes the pad as his potty spot.

The company claims that the grass and holder resist bacteria and smell I think. Penny doesn't have wet poo, so I am not too worried about that. You are supposed to poor cleanser over the grass every day to clean it and then take it out once a week for a thorough cleaning. | |
