| yes she is crated when we are not around and at nite, the problem is she will wee and poop on papers indoors (tried outdoors w/papers, no luck). Occasionally on a walk she might wee, never poop..then we come indoors and she finishes. (walking her up to 45 min. to avoid the indoor behavior, no luck) So I thought possibly a tasteful, healthy treat for a reward along with verbal reinforcement..someone told me boiled chicken, but I want to be able to take the "rewards" with us when out and about. Any Ideas??? Thanks, Karol |

| Reward Treats Maybe Bella would like Little Jacs (made of chicken livers). My 3 seem to love them. I only given them to the puppies when they do their business. Any other rewards for doing something else are with other types of treats. |

| I am out of idea's to help with the potty thing. Lexi loves chicken and egg yokes. She likes treats sporadically but isn't too interested. Good luck! |

We're getting close to being potty trained, but she's very picky about her puppy pad, so it's difficult. Sometimes if she's already done a #1 on it, she won't use it again, and instead will pee or poop on the floor right next to her puppy pad. Or, if it's overnight and she has to go, she'll rip up her puppy pad, move it, and then pee on the floor where her puppy pad was. So I've been trying to take her for walks more often, with a little success, but she gets nervous on walks because for whatever reason she's scared to death of the sound that air conditioner compressors make when they turn on. Since we live in Florida, that's kinda inevitable when we're walking around houses. Also, because she's nervous, she won't eat a treat on our walks when I offer her one for doing her business outside. But, every day seems to get a little better, and I'm mostly just thankful she's realized that the whole house isn't a toilet, and instead will confine any accidents to "her spot" in the hallway.

| Hello! Hello Yorkie lovers! I actually just signed up a few minutes ago and I wanted to join! I clicked on the link, but it's not letting me enter. Please help me! Tobi is about 4 months old and I had him for 1 month. I love him so much which tends for me to spoil him. When he's in his crate crying, I always end up opening the cage for him. My boyfriend keeps telling me that I'm spoiling him way too much, but I can't help it. He definitely needs to learn how to pee on the pad. He's getting used to waiting until we let him out, but sometimes he goes anywhere from the kitchen floor to the bathroom and even on the bed. Oh! and just a side note, Advantage for fleas really work but it puts a hole in your wallet! :] |

| All I can say is AAAAHHHHHH! Ok, seriously? I thought dogs had this natural instinct to NOT pee in their crates. That is a major reason why crate training is so successful right? Well, my little friend Shamus has been home for a few weeks. I have been to a puppy potty training class, and have pretty much stuck to the rules. I have had Shamus tethered to me for three days, watching his instincts to get him outside and catch him in the act if it arrises. He is in the crate when he cannot be watched. We go for 30 minute walks with the kids and my husband, we are doing all the right things. Yet, Shamus gets in his crate after an hour of outside time, and poops. Then he cries to tell us he doesn't like it. Same thing in the morning. Obviously it is not my choice to be awake at 5:40am typing in a chat room, however, I'm frustrated. I set my alarm for about 5:15 because he has been crying at 6ish. This morning before my alarm Shamus cried, because he peed everywhere in his crate. I've cleaned him, the crate, walked him outside but he doesn't do his business outside. I reward him outside just like I was told. I don't know. This is a support group, that's what I need. I am really trying to do the right thing, and those puppy pads don't work either - plus I don't want him to pee in the house at all. Shamus is 5 months old. HELP!! |

| Welcome! You gotta be the Momma and stick to the rules or you will have a little yorkie bratt. It's tough but you will enjoy him much more if he knows the rules. Did you ever discover how to get on this link? Sounds like he is doing wonderful for 4 months old. |

| I know your frusteration! Lexi is six months old and just now gets it. She really didn't get it until we used the crate. Since you are doing that I am at a loss? Supposedly they don't get it until they are at least six months old, so you have a month or two. I would say be patient, consistent, and hang in there. Did he come from a Pet Store? You can tell me and I won't jump on you. Lexi came from one and they do pee/poop in their crates because they don't get out. Just curious. He sounds like a sweetie and worth the effort. Buckle down and keep up the good work. He will get it. |

He didn't come from a pet store, but I do believe he came from a halfway breeder. She had him in a x-pen. She told me when I initially came to look at him he was doggie door trained to go outside, so when he came home I knew I had to teach him where the door was, and where I wanted him to go out. However, what I didn't know until the day I picked him up is that she kept him in an x-pen, and trained him to pee in it. She said, he won't pee on the carpet, but he does go to a corner of the pen and pee and poop. SO....finding puddles in the four corners of our rooms is interesting. Especially since I have hardwoods, and carpets...he pees around the carpets on the hardwoods. She also initially told me he was up to date on all of his shots, and when I picked him up, she told me he was two shots behind. SO, might as well have been from a nonbreeder as she didn't uphold the standard that most breeders do. I am staying consistent with him. I feed him, and set the timer for 20 minutes, usually he goes in about 30 minutes or so. This way we are already outside. However, they say to feed them 3 times a day, at 3/4 of a cup total. He never finishes a dish of food, even when I take it up after 20 minutes. I feel bad, like he isn't getting enough food, but I'm training, so I have to stick to it right?? We are going camping in our RV next week, and I know it's going to be really challenging with Shamus doing this stuff all the time. We asked the so call breeder if she would hold him until we got back from our vacation, because of the potty training, I didn't want to disrupt it, but she insisted he was trained, and it would not be a problem, and that she would not hold him. Yeah right. I should have gotten on this forum before picking him up, and I would have known that there is no possible way a 5 month old could be completely potty trained.

| Sigh... I guess I should join this group. I have never owned a dog that I can officially say has been house broken. Then again I've only owned two dogs! Scruffs will go outside if he is let out when he needs to go but otherwise he'll go in the house. Some times he'll go a month without accidents, other times it is a few days or weeks apart between accidents. It has been over 8 months with him. We have improvement.. I guess since he was left alone for 12 hours a day ever since he was a puppy for the first year of his life, he was allowed to pee anywhere in the house.

| Hi Group!!! Brody and I would like to join . Brody is 11 weeks old and been with us for one week. We're crate and wee wee pad training him, started last night in earnest. When I got up this morning he'd peed on the wee wee pad, I took him out and played for a few minutes, he looked like he was ready to go so I put him in with his wee wee pad and he went so I praised him and immediately took him out to play and eat. He ate his breakfast and wandered to the other side of the kitchen to do business, I caught him and put him on the pad, but no go. A few minutes later I let him back out to finish eating and he again started potty before I could get him onto the pad. So far he's pooped every morning pretty regularly, so I can time it, but tomorrow I am just going to have to keep him in on the pads until he goes. I'm keeping a log today so hopefully I can learn his 'schedule' and that will help. |

| Keep up the good work and continuity. They will get it. It's much like potty training a toddler. When I had my grand daughter for a week we put her potty out on the deck and she and "wexie" (Lexi) went together. Whatever works! |
