| Training 2 times a Day..its possible? Its is possible to train my dog to only go out 2 times a day? at morning and maybe at around 5 or 6pm? my sisters dogs go out only on those hours, they have huskys and golden retrievers. those are big dogs, so dont know if theres any difference.. I want to train him to go out only twice a day cause those are the hours im home. Dont want to find any more mistakes all over the carpets. ALSO if anyone knows how to take the stains out of the carpets pleasee i need help. i took out some of the smell too but the stains didnt work out even with a product for dog stains i can still see them, if you know I'll appreciate it, thankss |

| I'm not sure two times a day would be enough for a small dog with a small bladder. My bigger dog Sydney goes out three times a day and she is around 10 lbs and three years old. She goes out at around 7 a.m. then again at around 3/4 p.m. and once before bed around 10 p.m. I feel better taking her out before bed so she doesn't have to hold it so long at night, she does fine with that...but there is no way Chloe could only go twice a day. As for the carpets I used Oxyclean and a small steamer to clean it up , then Natures miracle to remove any odor. It worked OK I guess , but I just removed the carpet and put down Pergo to save myself the headache ! Maybe one of those Shamwows ( for future stains if there are any )they advertise on TV would be good too? Use it to soak up the urine , then a steam clean followed by natures miracle , maybe?

| No that is not enough. they have a very small bladder and need to go out often. unless your also using a peepad where they are trained to do both. 2 times a day is even hard on a large dog. |

| Do you only use the bathroom twice a day? I can't believe anyone would expect any size dog to go potty only twice a day but especially a toy breed dog with their tiny bladders. During the day the most we usually go between potty breaks is 4 or 5 hours. When you force a dog to hold it's urine that long you are really increasing the chances of a urinary tract infection and I just think it's cruel to make a dog wait that long

Im putting pads on top of the carpet where he already mark his territory, he is not going on those places anymore but dont know if this will work all the time, dont want to keep the pads there all the time.. hope u can help.. my mom is coming to town soon need to figure something out if not she will freak out again!! |

I would also get him an X pen / playyard and set it up somewhere that has no carpet like the kitchen or a bathroom and leave him in that when you are not home . Leave the pads in there with him , he may use them. That way he is confined to a area , but he still has plenty of room to play and potty and eat. I wouldn't let him have free roam of the house ( if that's what your doing now) Since you are gone such long hours could you do doggie day care ? Atleast maybe a couple times a week or hire a dog walker/sitter for a couple hours so he isn't alone all day from 6 til 10 ? Or even a friend that can take him a couple days a week to play with their dogs ?

Why not train to pee pads instead of outside? | |

| I take Teddi out about 8am for a walk and she pees a lot.....like maybe 5 times. The she is home all day but pads are down and I get home about 5:30from work. I think because my Standard Poodle holds it all day Teddi does too. Maybe once a week there will be pee on the pad...other than that she holds it until I get home. I think it depends on the dog. My friend has a cockapoo who is about 20 lbs and she is 2 years old and still pees about 3 times a day on the pad during the day. I've told my friend she should be able to hold it but she never took the pads away and now she feels like she has to leave them there or she will pee on the floor.

| Thanks for your respondes. The last 2 days I put him on a close part of the house because Im cleaning the carpets and dont want him to mess them again. Since little he is running all over the house and he sleeps in my room, but from now on when im not home he is staying in the hallway from the rooms. its a small space but im trying to train him again to the pads.. these 2 last days he havent use them at all.. i came from school and he waited all that time to go outside. How can I make him use the pads again? dont want him to get sick, any advice of training him again to the pads? i still have like 100 of them, hope i can use them, cause i spend a lot of money on them. |

| Is there any way you could get someone to call in and let your dog outside for a while and to play with him while you are out? You are leaving him home alone for a very long time, and it will be very hard for you to train him in the hours you are with him. I feel very sorry for your pup, especially if your mum is now going to get cross with him for messing everywhere...it really isnt his fault. Is there doggy day care nearby that you could use? |

I was going to suggest that also. Put some of his own urine on the pad, and be patient, he will get it. Also, when you are home, take him to the pads. He will eventually learn to go outside when you are home and on the pads when you are not. I have three trained this way, if they have to go when I'm not home, they have a litterbox with pads in it. When I am home, they mostly go outside.
