| Need pregnancy reference recommendations. I am looking for recommendations of good resources on yorkie pregnancy. We are not breeders but have just found out that our furbaby may be pregnant. I have so many questions and would greatly appreciate info specific to yorkies if possible. We are excited to expand our furry family!

| While the internet is a great resource, I would suggest you work closely with your vet regarding pregnancy of any dog. Best wishes to you! |

Yes, you ARE a breeder. You put 2 dogs together resulting in a possible pregnancy. You are a breeder in every sense of the word. Your female was under veterinary care last week for an infection, was she not? Did the vet recognize any signs that she may be carrying then, or has she been bred since the visit? I would only HOPE that you realize and are prepared for the dangers than can be invovled in breeding a female (and male) even when you are experienced, much less when you are not? I see from your past posts that you PLANNED on breeding your girl. WHY would you do that without researching, having resources and info specific to yorkies FIRST!? This is your dog's LIFE you are playing with here! I know this is not the kind of response you asked for and I realize I'm probably going to get slammed for it, and that is fine. For the life of me though, I don't know how anyone can defend this and see it as acceptable.

| So let's sum it up. This is life and death so research first, breeding second! It's all about responsibility!

Now, please contribute to the health of my dogs not the character assassination of their owner.

Maybe your "vet" should have started by informing you that your dogs are a bit on the young side for breeding to begin with--1 yr old female and 6 month old male, correct? At these ages, your dogs are not mature enough for you to even be able to deduct that they are of the quality that should be bred. ?But I'm sure your "vet" knew that, right? I'm sure that aside from the veterinary aspect, he/she is also an expert on the specifics of the Yorkie breed, right? And you recieved his/her guidance in examining the peidgree and geneological makeup of the dogs and those they descended from, right? Glad he told you they were a good "size"--to bad there is much more involved than that. Most respected breeders agree with that. You want me to simply contribute to the health of your dogs? Fine: Have your female spayed. THAT would be in HER best interest. Last edited by BamaFan121s; 04-06-2007 at 05:46 AM.

| Contributing to the health of you dogs is something the responsibility of an owner when they decide to become a pet owner and/or breed. The owness belongs to them and their vet. But, since your vet chose to perform an x-ray at this early in the game....did he inform you that the x-rays may cause problems to the puppies....common knowledge in any reproducing female.

BANNED! | Wow I know alot of people have strong opinions, but with you 2 on guard she/he never had a chance, lol. Remind me never to ask a question like that....I still think your great ladies, but wow if I was/her/him I would have ran and not looked back. I personally feel the research is never done when it comes to breeding no matter how much you think you know!!!! |

| I also agree...I feel that you can NEVER research enough. Yes, I do have a strong opinion. I don't feel there is any select group with the reserved exclusive right to breed, but I DO feel like anyone who chooses to take it on should properly research all aspect of it first. IMO, there are FAR TOO MANY innstances that come of on this board alone of "I bred my dog, now what do I do?" and "I think I'm going to breed my 15 pound Yorkie because everyone thinks she'd have cute puppies" Maybe if someone had been upfront and honest with them to begin with, they would have second guessed their snap decision and researched further. As long as the replies are sugar coated and "Oh, learn from your mistake" "this could happen to anyone" I doubt anyone will be discouraged from follwoing in their footsteps. And people wonder WHY they have dogs that don't resemble the breed they are being passed off as and why they have puppies with genetic based illnesses. |

| I began posting in response to the post your responded to...However, I got side tracked....but, you took the words out of my fingers. Harsh! yes. Most often times I take the road of advising when posting, but everyday on this forum I see more people with this same inquiry and it does get to me that the animal's welfare has not been the first thing of consideration. We are all on here because of our common interest, the love and passion for our yorkies and being politically correct and walking on eggs afraid to hurt someones feelings seems to fail more often than not in educating.

Did her 3 pound female stand a chance? Because of the lack of knowledge before allowing this to happen, this little female may not live through this.

| Well lets hope for the best, perhaps the little girl isn't pregnant after all. However, if she is, I believe the dogs will not be able to be registered, if the stud is not 7 months. |
