| My theory is if its pure then its pure there is no way around it. Yorkies will always have the waterside grand(the colors) and they where large dogs. In my opinion it's wrong to try and breed with in those standards. It's killing the heritage and creating health problems. .

I don't know where you got that idea; but it is incorrect that there is a pet "standard" and a show standard. Is the show standard with-out fault of course not. But have you done the genetic testing - breed specific for the Yorkshire Terrier"?? BATS, LP, HD, PRA. to name just a few tests that should be done prior to breeding your bitch. In fact I would agitate for a "Standard" that requries passes on all the above prior to having a Championship issued. As well as a pass on Temperament testing.

I would have to Disagree! I wouldn't think that Purposely breeding Yorkies to be Too Small Or Too Big would be good for the breed at all!!

| I really think everyone should do some more research. Yorkies where never "SMALL" (under 5 pounds) to start with. breeders made them that way by breeding within standers. There where two types of yorkies and the largers are fading out and its said. The comment about larger yorkies are mixed, this is simply not true. Please research SKYE and WATERSIDE. Those are yorkies roots and will always carry that line. Now you will see where they get there color and long hair, research how genes are passed. Quote:

| I cant remember the name of the book but this site talks about it but a little mis leading. Yorkshire Terrier History So called standerds are what they want them to look like, pure is pure! dont try to alter them and only create a perfect breed. No one get mad by me staying this but didnt hitler try to do something along those lines? I guess everyone should get anyone who has red hair fixed. If its pure and your pedigree and stuff show it, there should not be a issue. Oh, research shows the smaller you go the more health problems you get. its true some larger ones do have health issues but thats due to bad breeding and even then its not half as much as a 3# yorkie.

There seems to be a lot of comments being thrown out there that are not based on reality or history of the Yorkie, but rather pure conjecture or personal theories. Some of the comments and analogies are absolutely ludicrous!

| This topic went to the left field. All i was saying was every club has there own standerds on what a yorkie should look like for show. Pure is pure. We should not breed to standerds if there not going to be show bc your losing the yorkie and what they where ment to be. Most breeder thinks it has to be done within those standers and my mind thats wrong and not true. There where once larger yorkies and its said that they are fading out. If it was true that you can only breed within standers then why does AKC, UKC and so on have deffrent standerds? how are there deffrent types of yorkies? How did parti come about? that could never happen if standerds where meet.
