| question. I have not spayed my Molly yet because I want her to have puppies one time (to keep) before I get her fixed. She is my only dog and I want her to be a mom. She is almost 9 lb and two years old. Do you think she will be OK having puppies. What size male yorkie should I look for? If she has six puppies then I be OK with that but four would be ideal.

| I would strongly suggest you do a lot of research before seriously considering breeding. There's a lot of information that you need to know and if you're asking these kinds of questions, it makes me think you haven't really looked yet. You can go to the YT Library to begin with and I know that experienced breeders will be along shortly. Welcome to YT

| I'm not the one breading. LOL I have no clue. I thought about having a breader do it but I want to be sure. I know there is a lot of shady breaders out there that will tell me wrong. I would like to keep three our four of her puppies. I don't know the rules of the breed and I want to be sure I'm asking the right questions and getting the right answers.

| But you're her owner...so you are breeding her. Unless you are handing her over and not being with her during her pregnancy, again, I suggest researching before making any type of decision. There are a lot of financial (you) and psychical (her) demands that you need to be prepared for.

| The original question was do you think she will be okay to have puppies. I want to find a reputable breeder and to bring up my intelligence to speed to ask the correct question and already knowing the answer I should be receiving. This is called being smart and wanting to improve the breed. I understand they were probably be sometimes to the puppies and I am prepared for that. I read a lot about breeding under 5 pounds in an unhealthy puppies and so on. If it comes to the point of splitting the later with the stud owner then I'm kinda okay with that because I know someone will get healthy puppies and not from a shady breeder. As I stated I was thinking about the idea not that I was going to do it but if it came to that then I will be intelligent enough to select the correct ones

| Please anyone replying to the post to not get defensive. It's not about the money. It's more less about carring on my mollys legacy in case something does happen I will always have a part of her because of the puppies. I will be more than willing to give anyone my epethelth.com password too show to show that I take very good care of my baby. This site is constantly updated by my vet. It shows every time I walk through those doors.

| If you have a good close relationship with your Vet that would be a good place to start with your questions. Mostly Yorkie Talk is community that shares information, ideas, and support. The majority of us will try to talk you out of breeding your precious little girl. So many things can go wrong. It does not sound like you really have researched Yorkie breeding. Please learn as much as you can before doing anything. We have some excellent breeders on YT with years and years of experience, please ask their advice on the breeders section. Best Wishes and welcome to Yorkie Talk.

| Breeding always puts the females life at risk especially if your not an experienced breeder and know the signs that mean get the female to the vet asap. No yorkies should be bred that doesn't follow the standard because we have to many yorkies being bred who don't and don't resemble the breed at all and at 9 pounds she exceeds the weight a standard yorkie should be. Dogs don't need to be mothers to satisfy themselves like humans sometimes feel. It would be much better for her to just spay her and if you want another pup to buy one from a good breeder. There is a lot that goes into breeding and a lot of money as well. C-sections are very expensive and you have to do genetic testing. Not knowing the lines of your dog could end up costing you a lot of money and heartache if you have a dog born with genetic illnesses.

| I had this really long message road up then I got a text message and hit the wrong button on my phone. I made the comment about no defense of replies because I'd rather than other threads Where are other breeders would put the original poster down and make him look like an idiot When all he had was a simple question. It was obvious the original poster did not know the 500 answers to the Breeders 500 questions so why even reply? I think the point of my regional question was mis read. Let's not get breeding standards and pet standards confused. Correct me if I'm wrong. Show standard states that yorkie should not be no more than 7 pounds. Hey Yorkshire should not be no more than 10 pounds not for show. We should never breed a female under 5. Let's not forget that AKC and all the other organizations are based for show not pet breeds. You can have to show quality dogs and still have offsprings that do not me show standards. The Off spring could have more health problems than any other puppy. I thought the point was to improve the nreed. The original question was if it was safe because of her being almost nine pounds. This is pet not show. The point is to carry on her legacy. She is akc and I do have her pedigree. If you must know why I want to do this well here you go. She is my ex wife's dog. My wife loves her very much she is smart and intelligent. She is everything a dog could be very playful and happy lovable just gorgeous. She is in very good health. My wife loves this dog very much. My wife has passed. She was killed in a car accident by drunk driver. My Molly is all I have left of her. Molly could die tomorrow. Getting another puppy to satisfy me is not the option or the point.

| Too late to edit: Let's not get show standards in Pet standards confused. The Yorkshire itself should not exceed 10 pounds. Show standard states that the Yorkshire must be below 7.

| I think what is happening is you are confusing "standard". Breeding should be done to better the breed, and that includes size. Yes many have larger or smaller than standard yorkies. But a good breeder will try to stay within standard so that we can always have beloved yorkies as they are now and not have them evolve into something that looks nothing like yorkies in the future. There really is not a difference in what you are calling show and pet standards. I understand why you want her line to continue but there are ways of doing so without risking your little ones life. I am sure the breeders have others from her lines they are still breeding which would be one way. (purchasing another puppy from those same lines). God bless and welcome to YT.
