| ![]() My Yorkies is 16 pounds and I got her from a broker who got there puppy's from a puppy mill before I was educated. I love the bigger Yorkies but purposely breeding for them is good for the breed.

| ![]() Did she do genetic testing and know the lines of the dogs she bred?

| ![]() The smaller you go the more problems they have because they where never ment to be that small. I'm no expert but even putting two 5# together can give you a 3#. Forgive me if I'm wrong but isn't that "standard " ofcourse that changes depending on what club you look at thus only proving my point.

| ![]() I agree you should do some research about breeding. She's on the larger size for a yorkie. Is she AKC registered? If not, then consider the reason why before you breed. Have her tested for genetic issues like LS (bile acid test) epilepsy, trekia problems etc.. if you still plan on breeding her find a smaller male, and make sure he too is not pre-dispositioned for genetic defects. |

| ![]() standard for AKC is 4-7lbs..sometimes 8..you don't want smaller, I know breeders who use their -4lb to 5lb males and nothing smaller than a 6lb female to get your 5-6lb range. anything smaller than 4lb is too small and your risk of having trecia or patella issues is extremely high. |

| ![]() She is akc. History shows at one time there where two types of yorkies large and small. Small being under 10 pounds. Large are rare now because they where no longer popular and this is also why I disagree with standards.

| ![]() you are right 3 lb dogs are too tiny for any breed. but the yorkie is still suppose to be in the toy class. Breeding larger means somewhere in the line it was bred with something other than yorkie. Same with it being 3lbs, If you took a good look at a 3lbs yorkie they have the body stature of a chiahuahua. |

| ![]() Goes back to the original topic and breeding a 10 pound female. In my opinion you should not try to breed in those standards. That is altering their heritage and standards are show standards

| ![]() yep you are right long time ago they were larger. I have a 2 I groom who are of an old line. But even though they are 12lbs they have wonderful confirmation. In one sense it is too bad you didnt have two classes. And I'm referring to those who breed now, i've seen some pretty funky looking yorkies. I have a neighbor who swears her dog is 100% yorkie, saw mom and dad, but he has longer ears and so they hang like a shih tsu, and oh yeah there is the duck feet he has..kinda like a shih tsu would...humm... |

| ![]() When I bred persians we had to breed to the breed standard which always meant a short muzzle and a stocky body and a very balanced animal I achieved a regional win for best of breed, with that said my vet would always have heated discussions with me telling me I was breeding freaks that did not look like cats and causing health problems like excess eye drainage and respritory problems and etc but I bred to the show standard to better the breed, as for yorkies I do not prefer a teacup yorkie I prefer a teapot yorkie my suri weighs eight pounds I wanted it that way I love her to death her temperament is great I love every thing about her but I dont intend to breed her, Millie |
