| Can someone tell me why?? I came across a pup that I was interested in that was advertised as AKC. When questioning about the pup the seller tells me that her parents are AKC registered and she spent a fortune on them but she will not let the puppies go with any kind of registration at all. No limited AKC. I understand not letting them go with full AKC rights, but why wouldn't they register the pups and let them go with limited registration? She said she could show me the parents papers but wouldn't be registering the litter. This sets off a red flag to me but I wonder if maybe I'm just missing something that someone could fill me in on. Thanks |

| That's what I was thinking... and still charging and arm and a leg for the pup. |

| It would be nice if they explained-- I'm into full disclosure with my customers and when I don't register a litter I tell them exactly why. Times I've done it have been when there were multiple sires and the litter produced no show prospects, therefore the expense and trouble of DNA testing to sort out paternity would be wasteful. Most people are happy to take an unregistered puppy for a reduced price, all other considerations checking out OK--references, vet checks, etc.

| Thanks. I can understand why you wouldn't register a litter in that case. Would you still advertise them as AKC pups? She got very defensive when I asked if they would come with limited registration or not. |

| There were a couple of reasons given, but I'll add another. There are those that want to charge you extra for the AKC papers.

| So what would a good price be for this 6 month old puppy with "champion bloodlines" and no papers? It's a little girl about 3.5 lbs right now. |

| Or she may not know for sure who the sire is and don't want that coming back to her

| Remember Champion Blood Lines could mean there are Champions in the background; dam and sire aren't Championed......But, without papers....I'm not sure if that's important, I would be more concerned with the breeder and their ethics........From what I gather from this breeder and since she got huffy with you......stay away....go elsewhere.

| There are so many other things to consider above price. "Champion bloodlines".....If I had a dime for every backyard breeder that advertised that..I'd be a rich woman!

Donating YT 4000 Club Member | "Champion blood lines" doesn't mean squat if you don't have the papers to prove it. Of course, papers themselves don't mean squat unless you are planning on breeding or showing. JMO, but if she's using the "cost" of registering them as her reason for not doing it, then she's hiding something from you. (See any of the possible reasons that were listed above). The cost to register a litter is $25.00 plus $2.00 for puppy. Hardly cost prohibitive. Fee Schedule What she is selling you is a pet quality yorkie, no matter what the lineage she claims it has. For all you know, the pups could have been sired by the local Lothario. I'd walk away and look for another (reputable) breeder if she is trying to charge an arm and a leg for it.

| IMO, there wouldn't be a "good price." The breeder may have her reasons for not registering the litter, but it sounds suspect. Especially if she got defensive when you questioned it. I would look elsewhere, at at the most, pay only enough to cover the costs of vaccinations. I personally would not pay for an unregistered dog from a breeder. The way I see it, there is no reason to "settle" when there are other breeders out there. |
