I am so glad I have your permission. Don't mind if I do! Well maybe it is different with people that have a kennel such as you. My dogs live in my home, sleep in my bed,etc.....

Mine too, and believe me they would not be sleeping with me if they had worms that they were transmitting to their puppies. When I look for a puppy and they tell me they have wormed it 5 times, I say No thanks. first I do not want a puppy that was raised in an environment here it needed to be wormed, second I do not want one that has been fed pesticides, putting it at risk for cancer. Most non breeders, do not understand about the deworming and vaccinating, so you can tell them that all the vaccinating and deworming is a good thing and they believe it. But educated, well informed breeders no longer believe that it is a good thing. There are way too many dogs with severe allergies, dogs having seizures, and dogs getting cancer.

Do you think that your vet, who created the parvo vaccine, might have a conflict of interest by prescribing the vaccine for 5 week old puppies. The well being of the puppy, vs money in his pocket? From what you say, you have quite a large kennel. The more dogs you have, the harder it is to control these things. My dogs live in my house with me. No other dogs come here, I take all precations when we go to the vet. I watch as they sanitize the scale and exam table, I never put them on the floor, I never put them down outside to potty, and I don't go to dog parks. I have not changed shoes and sanitized them as another poster suggested, but I think it is a good idea and will start doing that. Yes Parvo is a horrible disease, but if you are just trading one disease now for another one (cancer) down the road, then aren't you just passing the problem on to your customers? You are not going to change your mind fnd I m not going to change mine, but new people reading this should be presented with all the pros and cons, and all angles of the issue, so they can make an informed decision. Tammy probably got tired of reading the same issues repeated over and over and moved on.

And as for the worming, it was suggested to take in a stool sample to see if they have worms, before deworming them. I don't understand why you are opposed to doing that. Such a simple thing to do.

Senior Yorkie Talker | Wow, I thought I would never get to the end of this thread. The only reason I came into this thread was to do some research on when it is best to deworm puppies for way into the future reference. Well, I must admit I have found a truck load of information. In between the arguments, I have learned some new terminology and have a whole list of definitions that I am going to look up and do some research on. I have book-marked several web sites, and have gotten great insight from what I know are great breeders. Before reading this thread, I thought deworming was something you were suppose to do before homing a puppy and was protocol. In the way far off future, I know I will not deworm without a positive result from a stool sample. I believe this practice goes back to "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!". If there is no need for it, I feel it should not be done and will not be practiced by me. Anyway, thanks for all the great info. YorkieProud MY YORKIES ARE SMARTER THAN MOST HUMANS!! LOL |

| I have one question, Why give poison to any puppy unless it is needed????? Bottom line that's what you are giving. Check first. NOT all puppies have worms. If Mom is clear and they have not walked in poop form an infected dog, then they don'!\sparklingbluyorkies.com |
